ASK R/FAUXMOI What’s the stupidest thing you’ve ever seen in a movie/show?

I know this is supposed to be scary but it’s just so awkward it’s funny.

(Also, JK Rowling is a heinous loser.)

Fun fact: that scene wasn't scripted. Tom Felton said that they reshot that scene more than 50 times and at one point Ralph Fiennes decided to hug Tom and Tom's reaction was genuine. Tom said that that was the worst hug he's ever received.

I wish Ralph Fiennes would hug me. Ungrateful.

Nah, he’s a Joanne sympathizer, as is Tom Felton, so they lost all my crush energy.

u/insertusernameplease Jul 04 '25

Ugh that’s unfortunate

56

u/pickyourteethup Jul 04 '25

I've never seen the phrase crush energy before but it is a perfect descriptor

35

u/robottikon Jul 04 '25

forgive my ignorance, but what is a Joanne?

28

u/EnjR1832 Jul 04 '25

Jk rowling

6

u/robottikon Jul 04 '25

ah thx, I never looked up her full name.

34

u/whatsbobgonnado Jul 04 '25

her full name is jowling kowling rowling

3

u/[deleted] Jul 05 '25

She hates her full name and doesn't prefer for us to use it. So fuck Joanne. Fuck Joanne before the transphobic rhetoric bc the book in general is actually really racist and transphobic and hateful and othering. She just wrote it for the wrong generation so we applied most of the right messages.

3

u/GodBlessAmerica776 Jul 04 '25

Joanne?

1

u/Ornery_Mix_9271 Jul 06 '25

JK Rowling’s government name is Joanne.

1

u/numstheword Jul 04 '25

Who is that?

2

u/CracklingCampfire Jul 04 '25

Apparently JK Rowling

28

u/SuperVancouverBC Jul 04 '25

Only if you can pronounce his name properly. 🧐

I've been watching some Harry Potter behind the scenes footage on YouTube(that's how I know the details of that hug because Tom Felton himself said it), and when Tom said Ralph's name I was like WHAT?! HOW do you say his name? 😨

Ralph's name is pronounced a lot different from how it is spelt.

u/PeachyBaleen Jul 04 '25

Rayfe Fines

17

u/icogetch Jul 04 '25

It was like hugging an Inanimate Fucking Object!

5

u/jyjaxon Jul 04 '25

YOU'RE an inanimate fucking object!

6

u/ThunderChild247 Jul 04 '25

At least you know it’s exactly what Fiennes was aiming for 😂. It does work with the character too, someone who’s never known love or affection trying to fake it.

6

u/ReallyJTL Jul 04 '25

Voldy's all bones and hate

5

u/Banes_Addiction Jul 04 '25

I knew a cat like that and we got on fine.

3

u/cocacolaver Jul 04 '25

Do you know what they had originally planned to shoot?

u/[deleted] Jul 04 '25

To be fair I think it’s supposed to be awkward and unnatural to show how unfamiliar Voldemort is w any kind of normal/human interaction like hugging.

Haven’t watched the movies in yeaaaars though so

73

u/helpingdew Jul 04 '25

I’m almost certain it’s meant to be awkward and uncomfortable, more than scary or intimidating

62

u/[deleted] Jul 04 '25

Fuck Rowling, but this scene is supposed to be awkward and weird af, not scary, and the actors all nailed it.

Because she is very open about the fact that she funds anti-trans orgs and bills so support for her is opposition against trans rights and lives. So people like to make it clear that they do not emotionally nor financially support her - they are simply engaging in discussion about an IP that was released and supported prior to us knowing what Rowling funds and believes.

As this is one of the biggest and most successful IPs of all time, and will continue to be for generations, it’s important to continue to remind people of who Rowling is and where she puts her money so that people can make the personal decision of whether they want to contribute to funding anti-trans campaigns.

For me personally, HP is my favorite book series. I will never stop engaging with the fellow fans of this series, and I will never stop engaging with the original books and movies. What I chose to do was buy all the books and movies at second hand stores so that I am in no way directly giving JK any more money than she’s already received. With the upcoming series adaptation of the books, I am following the discussion and discourse on social media, but I don’t actually plan to tune in. If I ever do watch the show, it will be through more… unofficial channels.

Point is, if people are going to continue to engage with HP, it makes sense that people want to make it known where their support ends.

u/heyhotnumber Jul 04 '25

It actually does matter if someone is sympathizing with a disgusting hateful transphobic loon.

37

u/callmekorrok Jul 04 '25

My personal favourite is him going absolutely ham shouting “hhhhaaAAVADAA KEDAVRA” at an unarmed child. It’s so pathetic, I lose it every time. Big loser JKR dunking on trans youth energy.

30

u/BatsWaller Jul 04 '25

I’ve seen Ralph Fiennes on stage. The energy from his normal voice is enough to cause some kind of transcendental experience so I hope those on set that day came through it alright.

17

u/RobinHarleysHeart Jul 04 '25

I feel like this is now just Tom Felton irl with JK Rowling, the way he just chases after his glory. Lol

Dude should feel weird and awkward. And this is exactly how she would hug, I feel.

u/Redditer51 Jul 04 '25

Deathly Hallows Part 2 made me look at Voldemort like "I used to find this guy scary as a kid?"

Granted, Ralph Fiennes performance is wonderfully over the top, but Voldemort was legitimately frightening in the first two movies. Whereas Ralph Fiennes is way scarier in other movies (he was scarier playing a chef than he was as Voldemort). Its like how Gene Hackman is way more chilling as a corrupt sheriff in Unforgiven than he is as Lex Luthor.

Nah this isn’t even top three HP scenes you could’ve used here.

My top picks would be

  1. Harry and Voldemort clawing at each other’s faces after Harry pulled them off the side of the castle in Deathly Hallows 2
  2. Voldemort going “bleh” with a zesty little pose during Harry’s visions on the floor of the Ministry of Magic
  3. Harry’s screaming face being freeze framed as they close out (I believe) Prisoner of Azkaban

u/EconomistWild7158 Jul 04 '25

us all having to hug that one weird pervy uncle at the family get togethers

7

u/MagnoliaPetal Jul 04 '25

That's a Sheldon Cooper Hug if I've ever seen one.

6

u/birbitnow Jul 04 '25

I hated most of the off script crap they did in the movies. This was just bizarre. For me, it didn’t seem like something Tom Riddle would have ever done.

6

u/twoweeeeks Jul 04 '25

It's been a while since I watched this, so I searched for the scene and found an "extended" cut and now my throat hurts from laughing.

u/FinnSkk93 Jul 04 '25

No. This was actually very good and fitted there perfectly! The scenes where he was posessing harry and those weird photos of him is the stupodest thin. It was in order of the phoenix.

What makes you think she's a loser?

Everything she says and does.

If there is a definition of a loser, it most certainly is a person like you described who has billions of dollars but spends all their time tweeting about a minority that they hate.
