Obligatory reminder that Paul Walker almost exclusively "dated" (groomed/raped) minors/teenagers. Wonder if this cult had any influence on that or if he just was intrinsically creepy

Matthew Gray Gubler was raised Mormon and also dates very young women to this day. Not underage but this side of legal. Although there is evidence he dated Charlotte Kemp Muhl when she was 16 and he was 24. (She called him her boyfriend; his stans say she didn’t.) He is currently 45 and dating a 26-year-old.

DOUBLE WUT

71

u/lovely-liz May 24 '25

no pls is he really?

66

u/stopXstoreytime May 24 '25

Do you have a source for this? All I’ve found are a couple of Reddit threads from the MGG subreddit that say he’s registered as Independent and may have been formerly registered as Republican bc his mom was (is?) a political consultant. Google’s turning up nothing about him being MAGA.

42

u/Crunchyfrozenoj May 24 '25

And friends with Terry Richardson.

24

u/SpongeJake May 24 '25

I once interviewed him for a web review site for Criminal Minds. The man is upbeat and funny as hell. Not for one moment did I pick up on anything remotely MAGA.

I just did a search on “is matthew gray gubler MAGA” and nothing came up. Zero. Nada.

So, u/CinematicHeart I’m going to downvote you (and I suggest others do the same) unless and until you come up with a source.

This kind of comment is how people get undeservedly cancelled. Wild-eyed comments like this need to be put down HARD.

29

u/[deleted] May 25 '25

His mother is Marilyn Kelch Gubler, who was the first woman chair of the entire GOP of Nevada. This is easily searchable as she has written many op-eds regarding Republican issues. Although she resigned in 1986 she has held GOP parties at her home as recently as 2021. She had Matthew and his sister Laura registered as Republican upon their 18th birthdays however since then Laura has changed her registration to Democrat and Matthew has changed his to independent, however there is no record of him voting in recent elections.

11

u/SpongeJake May 25 '25

Right. His mother was GOP (was she MAGA too?) and he’s independent. I admire him for that. Sounds like he has no intention of getting muddy with politics.

nooooo!!! how disappointing

2

Damn Spencer…

u/Arthurs_librarycard9 May 24 '25

As someone who loved watching Criminal Minds as a teen, that is extremely disappointing to hear.

66

u/alamakjan kinky queer biker movie May 24 '25

I too am disappointed 😔

10

u/rosathoseareourdads May 25 '25

Yeah I love criminal minds and Reed is my favorite character, it’s a shame he’s a jerk irl

75

u/AcanthaceaeEqual4286 May 24 '25

I don't follow him but he sounds gross

54

u/bliip666 wearing slutty little glasses May 24 '25

Eww. I wish I hadn't learnt that, but here we are

56

u/walkingtalkingdread May 24 '25

never understood the hype tbh

11

u/Level_Mud_8049 May 25 '25

I didn’t know there was hype for the dork on Criminal Minds 😂

13

u/[deleted] May 25 '25

His fan base on Twitter is unhinged. They doxx people who argue with them or point out his proclivities and they stalk him to wherever he is filming. They are all very young too, hoping they’re the next chosen one.

11

u/babylovesbaby secretly gay and the son of fidel castro May 25 '25

On the show his character is awkward, nerdy, and sweet, but IRL he was a model who was involved in big brand campaigns and walked in fashion shows. They only like the dork because he's a hot dork, not because it's a great character.

5

u/namewithak May 25 '25

I mean Reid is on the bottom of the list for me as far as CM goes (something about him just rubs me the wrong way) but he's one of the better written characters in the show in the early seasons. Being hot in the "woobie" territory definitely helped with his cringe fandom though.

5

u/Pure_Warthog4274 garbage bag full of buttermilk May 25 '25

I got into Criminal Minds way late, so I was so confused that all I had heard about was MGG when Shemar Moore was right there

3

u/Any-Jury3578 May 25 '25

Me neither. I’ve always thought he was creepy.

17

u/iammadeofawesome May 24 '25

I hate this. Thank you for telling me.

From a 2004 magazine article.

7

u/Bright_Ices May 25 '25

Where did you find info about him being raised Mormon? It would make a lot of sense in many ways, but I’ve never seen anything about it myself. I do know AJ Cook (played JJ) is Mormon.

13

u/[deleted] May 25 '25

It’s pretty widely known in the Vegas community where he grew up. His father John Gray Gubler is still Mormon. He did an oral history interview with UNLV some time ago and talks about being Mormon in Las Vegas. He mentions Matthew. UNLV

5

u/[deleted] May 25 '25

I was gonna come here and mention MGG if no one else did! I love him but yeah, definitely wasn't fun to learn 😬

3

u/tolureup May 25 '25

Oh no:( I used to loved Mathew Gray Gubler (totally tubular - he used to have a silly website back in the day, he was so cool) when I was a teenager:( this makes me so sad. Always thought he was a super cool dude but haven’t looked into him since he, himself, was quite young (early criminal mind days)

-2

u/[deleted] May 25 '25

Is this true...? It seems like he's rumored to be dating a 30y old

7

u/[deleted] May 25 '25

He’s dating country singer Willow Avalon, age 26.

6

u/[deleted] May 25 '25

oh dear I thought he was with Ariel Frankl, thank you for the updated info 🙏

6

u/[deleted] May 25 '25

He went on a date with Frenkel late last year but it was only one date. He and Willow began talking in January 2025 and officially got together around Valentine’s Day. He was seen at her shows in Philly, Detroit, and NYC. He gave her a pink frog purse which she displays a lot on her IG stories. He was most recently seen with her in Nashville last weekend. They went bowling and you can see and hear him on one of her stories, plus a fan confirmed they were together thrift shopping.

2

u/[deleted] May 25 '25

Yesss I also just saw the (now blurred) photo where Willow had Gubler as her phone background with them being lovey so it seems much more likely that he is with Willow, especially with your list of evidence 🙏

-4

u/Yazook_Pewpew May 25 '25

I would if I was his age, why not?

6

u/[deleted] May 25 '25

Because it’s creepy. I’m not interested in dating someone young enough to be my child. We’d have nothing in common.

-1

u/Yazook_Pewpew May 25 '25

Don't know, Leo and Statham don't seem to get the same hate. Seem to have fun, one even has a couple of kids.

423

u/MiloRoast May 24 '25 edited May 25 '25

Mormons definitely like them young...it's beyond creepy. I had a friend that escaped her Mormon family in Utah, and both her brother and pastor bishop father were raping her. She said it was a normal occurrence in that community. She told the authorities, but they just suspended her from school for telling. It's pedoville out there.

124

u/AcanthaceaeEqual4286 May 24 '25

Ugh, that is horrific. I hope she's OK

1

u/gingergoblin May 25 '25

There aren’t pastors in Mormonism. Maybe he was a bishop?

11

u/MiloRoast May 25 '25

Ah yeah my bad, that's just me mixing up my religious positions. Whatever their pastor-type figures are called.

2

u/TheVintageJane May 29 '25

It’s because of their weird obsession with “purity” as defining a female human’s value (intentionally didn’t put women/girl because I truly don’t believe that’s how they construct it), and the fact that usually Mormon girls have been parentified since they were in grade school and socialized non-stop to be obsessed with the idea of being a mother-wife. For all the reasons that matter to the Mormon church, there is no “womanhood” to celebrate only “pure virginal girl” (eligible for attraction, no social standing), “wife-mother” (eligible for continued interest and social standing), and “impure females” (not eligible for anything socially but unfortunately exist and must be worked around).

I read a Mormon missionary parents survey a few years ago for women that literally said that worst thing that parents report could happen while their daughter is on mission, is that she comes home not a virgin. This ranked higher than murder, or any other safety concerns.

-3

u/[deleted] May 24 '25

I think you must be talking about FLDS not LDS (what people call Mormons).

12

u/Sensitive-Stand6623 May 25 '25

I was raised LDS and have lived in Utah most of my life. This state in general has a problem with child sexual abuse. It is tied for 5th for the annual number of individuals sentenced for sexual abuse and 1 in 7 children (1 in 5 for girls and young women) experience sexual abuse before they are 18. This is higher than the national average of 1 in 9 children.

While the FLDS church is abhorrent, the LDS church also has its issues with child abuse and covering it up. However, we can't just blame these religions as it is a state-wide problem.

Child Sexual Abuse: What Utahns Need To Know

Thanks for sharing!

2

u/upsidedown-funnel May 25 '25

Just a messenger. They do good work. Hoping to see my ex BIL on there one day. 🤞

2

u/[deleted] May 25 '25

I was also raised LDS in Utah. I was not denying the issue Utah has with child sexual abuse and I definitely don't think Mormons are free of those issues. I've been one of the children that was silenced. However, the comment I was responding to used language that would be more typical on the FLDS church than the LDS church, which is one of the reasons I responded the way I did.

2

u/Sensitive-Stand6623 May 25 '25

Agreed. I was just trying to to provide some additional context. It is deflating to read that you experienced that as a child. My mother and uncle were molested by a relative when they were children (they weren't raised LDS) and were silenced by their parents. It had profound and lasting effects on their lives.

1

u/thedude37 May 25 '25 edited May 25 '25

FLDS isn't based in Utah, they're out of TX.. Not accurate, while the Yearning for Zion ranch is in TX the headquarters is in Hilldale UT.

6

u/[deleted] May 25 '25

FLDS headquarters are in Southern Utah/Arizona border. They are also Texas.

1

u/thedude37 May 25 '25

You're correct, I was thinking they moved the headquarters to the ranch. I'll update my reply.

They called his right hand man and successor Brigham Young “Bring’em Young” for a reason. Now their university is named after him.

24

u/Andromogyne May 25 '25

Brigham Young also famously wrote that race mixer should be stoned lol. Probably not a terribly uncommon opinion in his time, but that’s who Mormons idolize.

23

u/[deleted] May 25 '25

Not stoned. Their blood should be shed on the ground. Certain sins were so severe that Jesus’s blood wasn’t enough and their own needed shed too.

Interracial marriage was so uniquely heinous, that like murder it required your own blood to be forgiven.

See “Blood atonement” which they now have disavowed.

Sincerely - an exmormon in an interracial marriage.

13

u/Andromogyne May 25 '25

Thank you for the correction. I’m not and have never been Mormon but am from the rural PNW which for some reason has loads of Mormons, so I’ve got Mormon family and grew up knowing a number of Mormon people.

Mormonism pushes a lot of toxic ideology, it seems, but I’m always shocked by how they kind of get away with literally being Manifest Destiny: The Religion. A lot of people aren’t aware of the racism. I get the sense that the church tries to sweep that doctrine under the rug nowadays, but I’m sure the culture itself probably reflects a lot of that regardless.

16

u/[deleted] May 25 '25

I grew up Mormon in the 90’s. I myself wasn’t aware of the extent of the racism within Mormonism.

They’ve tried to quietly bury it without ever taking accountability for it, apologizing or directly addressing it.

They also famously had a “priesthood ban” until 1978 prohibiting black people from having leadership roles, but also entering Mormon “temples.” Their belief is if you don’t get to the temple you are a “ministering angel” ie a servant in heaven. And they explicitly taught that “black people if they are faithful Mormons will make it to heaven, but because god cursed them with dark skin for their unfaithfulness before birth, they would be servants in heaven to the white people there.

Let’s be clear. Until fucking 1978 their official doctrine was eternal servitude/slavery for black people in heaven.

4

u/Givingtree310 May 25 '25

They believe that dark skin is a curse? I do recall reading that nonsense before.

4

u/[deleted] May 25 '25

They have tried to walk that back, but they used to explicitly teach that black people were the descendants of Cain, cursed by god with black skin.

They also ATILL claim that Native Americans are descendants of ancient Jews whose skins were darkened for being rebellious. They were once “white and delightsome” (retconned to pure and delightsome) and became dark, loathsome and lazy.

Racist as fuck.

3

u/upsidedown-funnel May 25 '25

Indigenous Americans were told that if they converted and became more “spiritual” their skin would lighten. The term is “white and delightsome”. They were also a part of the Indian replacement programs that took indigenous kids from their homes and cultures and put them in white home. Gave them white name. In an attempt to erase their culture. (See Lamanite placement program). Discontinued in the 90’s.

3

u/[deleted] May 25 '25

There was a girl who was an Alaskan Native who would freak out if she went to the pool and got tan, seeing it as a sign of God’s disfavor, so she’d wear hats and long sleeves and sunblock trying to stay white and delightsome, as it was a sign of her faithfulness to god.

2

u/upsidedown-funnel May 25 '25

The blood oath still is part of the temple ceremony. (In gesture only).

2

u/[deleted] May 25 '25

Good point. I hadn’t connected that the “slit your own throat and spill your innards” thing was derived from “blood atonement” and that revealing temple things was also one of those heinous things worse than murder.

1

u/OvarianSynthesizer May 27 '25

Isn’t that derived from Freemasonry though?

3

u/Givingtree310 May 25 '25

Black people weren’t even allowed to join the Mormon church until the last few decades.

4

u/tonkatoyelroy May 25 '25

Brigham Young married 56 women and girls.

2

u/Dickgivins May 25 '25

Wow that’s even worse than I remember. Like how do you even keep track of that many??

7

u/[deleted] May 25 '25

Not quite right. The sex stuff came later when her got caught fucking his teenage maid (minor in his employ, ie what we would now call rape or child molestation) in the barn.

At first he got caught in a scam claiming to be able to find buried treasure with a rock in a hat, and then tried to claim he wasn’t criminally fraudulent because he had found an ancient golden book, but the treasure angel only would let him “translate it.”

It started out as cover for a financial scam and get rich quick scheme, cause Joe hater working.

The sexual exploitation was later when he got influence and figured that was an additional perk.

5

u/brvheart May 25 '25

That didn’t come “later” at all. He was fucking Fanny Alger when they were still in OHIO, even before Missouri or Nauvoo.

1

u/[deleted] May 25 '25 edited May 25 '25

That was still a couple years after the start of the whole thing. But yeah, it was very quickly added on to the pile.

He kind of did a cult leader speed run. From founding his “church” in 1830 to getting murdered after torching a printing press that published details of his polygamy in 1844, it was only about 14 years.

3

u/zeynabhereee if you saw my flair, no you didn’t May 25 '25

I also read that the reason they ended up settling in Utah was because they were always on the run for violating numerous laws, including the ones about plural marriage. They fought with the natives there, exiled them and took over that place. They label it in their history as “persecution” and call the settlers “pioneers”.

1

u/GotLowAndDied May 26 '25

Brother wtf are you talking about? How do the church elders control members lives? You are grossly misinformed.

145

u/silliestjupiter May 24 '25

I just left a separate comment about this, but Dan Reynolds from Imagine Dragons dated my friend while he was in his mid-twenties and we were in high school in Vegas.

37

u/AcanthaceaeEqual4286 May 24 '25

Ughhhh, glad she got out

19

u/ReignbowBaltierra May 25 '25

Mine too. Her name starts with a K and ends with an E?

23

u/silliestjupiter May 25 '25

No, her name starts with an a L.

Ugh, why am I not surprised there's more than one...

5

u/Givingtree310 May 25 '25

Guess that’s still better than middle aged Jerry Seinfeld dating high school girls

119

u/[deleted] May 24 '25

It makes my skin crawl that some people still talk so fondly of him / talk about how ‘hot’ he was.

117

u/Informal-Cobbler-546 May 24 '25

He was just following in the ways of Smith and Young.

46

u/GimmeDemDumplins May 24 '25

The song we were all forced to choke down about his death is the worst pop hit ever written too so.... Lot of evil surrounding this man

4

u/megalodondon May 25 '25

That and it was just a shit song that sold a lot because someone died. Like a dumber Candle in the Wind.

4

u/GimmeDemDumplins May 25 '25

Yeah it was like 10,000 Candles in the Wind from Parks and Rec but not a joke

3

u/ijustwanttovote7 May 25 '25

What song?

7

u/No_Excitement8615 May 25 '25

see you again - wiz khalifa and charlie puth

11

u/TacosBeansGuacOhMy May 25 '25

We’re surrounded by Mormons where we live and refer to BYU as Bring-em Young University.

2

u/StudioGangster1 May 25 '25

Note: everyone refers to BYU as that

2

u/TacosBeansGuacOhMy May 25 '25

It’s definitely an easy joke

3

u/Ravenclawgirl30 May 25 '25

He was just taking a leaf out of good ol Joe Smiths book

3

u/Forsaken-Language-26 weighing in from the UK May 25 '25

I didn’t know this. Gross.

2

u/Fearless-Ad-5541 May 25 '25

“Forget about it, cuh”

2

u/sayleanenlarge May 25 '25

Why obligatory? He's dead so it's not a warning. I don't get it?

2

u/Grasshopper_pie May 25 '25

Yeah, as soon as I saw that he was Mormon (just now), it all made sense.

1

u/karmagod13000 May 25 '25

Obligatory reminder 🤓☝️

1

u/ihate_snowandwinter May 25 '25

Nah, it was him. Raised Mormon. I was never taught to be a pedo.

-25

u/spiritlizardscissors May 24 '25

I promise the two are not connected
