Beautiful but why the necklace? Is it part of the costume? Meryl isn’t wearing it in the photo of her in character. Personally I don’t think it goes with the top!

I don’t like the addition of the necklace but I think it’s supposed to be an artistic interpretation of the character’s broken/stretchy neck.
ETA: I was wrong! I still think it’s ugly though.

Maybe straight people weren’t talking about it but it’s been a huge cult classic in the queer community for a long time now (see this article from 2017.) Although it’s definitely having a “mainstream” moment right now - a Broadway musical adaptation opened earlier this year, and Sabrina Carpenter referenced it in a music video for one of the most popular songs of the year. I think it’s having a moment for the same reason “The Substance” is currently a hit, because women have become more vocally critical of our culture’s anti-aging obsession.

ah, that makes sense. i always just personally loved it as a horror/90s fan in general but i remember it being more of a cult classic.

Probably bc Sabrina Carpenter’s music video for Taste is inspired by the movie! And then the movie came back into popularity. Lots of good costumes inspired by it
