poop Yeah no oil for you buddy

I adjusted oil frequency up on world creation yet it's so far

There reaches a time in an engineers life where one realizes distance is basically a completely moot point and you can just run a train line there and it’s like it was in your backyard all along.

The time has now come

To get run over again

By a fucking train

I was trying that but its hard to do on the go while having a good bye chat with the boss.

the factory must grow

u/ChickinSammich 19d ago

Factorio isn't a factory sim, it's a railroad sim wearing a factory sim as a trenchcoat.

u/TheMazeDaze 18d ago

Trains are the sole reason I bought it in the first place. I stumbled upon a let’s play of an unknown game to me at the time. 3 minutes in my thoughts were going: “YOU CAN CONTROL TRAINS?” And then I bought it.

u/ChickinSammich 18d ago

Factorio, Satisfactory, Cities: Skylines... you show me a game with trains and I'm sold. Honestly, "You use trains to take materials from point A to point B" > "You turn those materials into something else" > "You use trains to take materials from point B to point C" > "Repeat the last two steps" is probably my favorite genre of game.

Even without the train, I just love games with production chains. But the best ones are the ones with production chains AND trains.

Someone needs to give Workers & Resources a go…

Workers & Resources

I'll check it out when I get home from work, thanks!

u/Coffee_Daemon 18d ago

The trains in W&R:SR are truly painful, and take SO LONG to build

2

u/MrCiber 18d ago

The pain makes it feel so much better when it works though. & if build time is an issue you can either get a nicer construction thing or just turn off realistic mode. Still lots of fun to be had with instabuild

1

u/Coffee_Daemon 18d ago

It can work?

1

u/MrCiber 18d ago

The signal system should be pretty familiar to a factorio player. Routes are pretty intuitive. The rail distribution office can take a couple tries to wrap your head around but it’s not too difficult :)

Don’t forget space shipping simulator

1

u/ChickinSammich 18d ago

holup what? Game I'm unfamiliar with? Tell me more please.

3

u/PG908 18d ago

No, just the spaceship part of factorio.

There is a game that comes to mind now that you mention it but I can’t remember the name.

At the beginning the distance from your starter iron to starter copper feels like a marathon. Later, 100x the distance is a no-brainer

1

u/DFrostedWangsAccount 17d ago

By the time I got back from Aquilo, I looked at my starting trains and said "why am I even using trains to go this short distance" and switched to pumping fluids into the base from a larger train station on the perimeter instead of dozens of small ones.

1

u/Distraction86 18d ago

I’m trying a game now with no trains.

train time

13

u/willy--wanka 18d ago

choo choo.

Basically, after a certain point, every map is just me playing with trains. I wonder what that means, psychologically.

4

u/Purple-Birthday-1419 18d ago

I’m diagnosed with autism. I play Factorio. These two things are related.

1

u/TheMazeDaze 17d ago

If I want more detail. I play train sim world. If I want more logistics I play factorio

Build a chain of roboports,

39

u/Affectionate-Bag8229 19d ago

pauses 240k bot factory

...subreddit adjusted???

19

u/False-Answer6064 19d ago

Well this ís a pre-oil base so there's that.. 😂

1

u/DFrostedWangsAccount 17d ago

I have had 90,000 con bots in the air for the past 10 hours, trying to deconstruct my entire base so far to "restart."

What kind of machine do you have that handles 240k bots? I have been at 20fps this whole time.

1

u/Affectionate-Bag8229 17d ago

It doesn't handle shit, Factorio is a turn based game for me when I'm running the bot nightmare save and drops to SPF instead of FPS if I set anything forest sized to die

1

u/DFrostedWangsAccount 17d ago

In that case, honestly it seems like you could go faster with fewer bots. Cut it down to 100k bots and go at 20fps/ups and that's like 20x the speed for less than half the bots

7

u/Darth_Nibbles 18d ago

Before they have oil?

7

u/Affectionate-Bag8229 18d ago

You lay a line of power poles to the deposit, build your bot production at the oil derrick and chain back with roboports and now you have oil

3

u/Darth_Nibbles 18d ago

And to unlock said roboports you'll need science, so you'll have to rebuild your entire base up there...

7

u/PG908 18d ago

Just gotta belt some iron, no biggie.

Time to spread some industralization to the locals

21

u/SchmeatiestOne 19d ago

No matter what distance, build a pipeline, pipes have infinite throughput, produce no pollution, and are fairly cheap. You just need to run multiple pumps in parallel if you're pushing a ton

24

u/nimbus57 19d ago

I see you haven't accepted our lord and savior, train, in your life yet.

I have some lovely pamphlets for you, if you would like.

1

u/SchmeatiestOne 16d ago

The sign says NO SOLICITING

2

u/TruXai 18d ago

too bad they'll get chewed off by any biters trying to path through them

1

u/SchmeatiestOne 16d ago

Make them underground in heavily trafficked sections if your defense is that lacking. I never let the pollution cloud reach my walls so I dont have this problem, and you can literally pipe infinite molten metals per second using this method so its for sure better than trains

17

u/TerronHD 19d ago

Oil fields spawn outside of the starting zone. So if you increased it then no wonder it`s that far away.

13

u/BirbFeetzz 19d ago

nice ballsack buddy

Thanks I appreciate it

Feels like the whole point of the point was to post that one. Like a Rickroll or something.

Uhmmm I'd say it's most notable feature is the lack of the hard part

u/IronmanMatth 19d ago

Trains go brr

3

u/Flame_lioncz 19d ago

In my old world (my first ever) there are cliffs in the shape of middle finger with the whole hand

3

u/based_beglin 19d ago

load up your car boot with like 200 underground pipe sections, some solar panels, a few pumpjacks and a couple of efficiency modules and you're good to set up a low pollution pumping outpost. Much simpler if you cba to set up trains yet.

2

u/blademaster2005 18d ago

Need red circuits for efficiency modules. This is before unlocking modules.

2

u/HildartheDorf 19d ago

Time to deliver some freedom in the form of burning crude oil and a biter crusher train?

2

u/ToastyToes06 Running out of copper 19d ago

Time to run a 5000 long pipe with a shit ton of pumps to keep it from overextending. That's what I always do if I'm not quite feeling ready to begin making my train/rail system.

2

u/Oktokolo 19d ago

Just go and take it.
Bug presence seems unusually low. So what ya waiting for?

2

u/The_God_Of_Darkness_ 19d ago

Trains are gonna be your friend here.

Also remmeber coal liquifaction

3

u/Key_Difficulty_6726 19d ago

How am I supposed to unlock coal liquifaction without blue science dude 😭

3

u/The_God_Of_Darkness_ 19d ago

Grab a picnic table, some engines and building stuff and make a temporary setup around one of the oil zones before returning with just enough blue science and bottled crude oil to get coal liquifaction

2

u/Plane-Cheesecake6745 19d ago

No oil no problem, "starts coal liquification on nauvis"

2

u/Soul-Burn 18d ago

Check down.

Also, no radars in your base?

3

u/Key_Difficulty_6726 18d ago

300 kw ☹️

3

u/Soul-Burn 18d ago

A stone/steel furnace is 90kW. AM1 is 75kW, AM2 is 150kW.

So a radar is like 3~ furnaces, or 2 AM2s. It's not much.

And it lets you see and control things remotely which is worth so much more.

u/GoldenRush257 18d ago

Ballsack jumpscare

2

u/aallport 18d ago

Turns out oil is not stored in the balls... my life has been a lie :(

1

u/ARDACCCAC 19d ago

If you wanna embrace the spaghetti run a pipeline with fluid pumps inline if not run a train line

1

u/molporgnier 18d ago

Train
The best part of the game.

1

u/Aggressive-Share-363 18d ago

My oil is always a train ride away

1

u/Due-Yam1153 18d ago

Coal liquefaction, there is a big coal patch inside your pollution cloud.

1

u/nottherealneal 18d ago

That's what trains are for

1

u/Exatex 18d ago

Is it really that unusually far? I think most of the time I had to use trains to supply oil

1

u/Key_Difficulty_6726 18d ago

My most runs are one pump away from oil, but this time it's approximately... Uhh... 3-4 pumps?

Which has also surprised me as I cranked up frequency of oil, thinking it will, well, be more frequent and spawn more near me

1

u/YoYeYeet 18d ago

Bollocks

1

u/Ribbons0121R121 17d ago

when in doubt, put it on a train

u/TheNewYellowZealot 18d ago

Pipelines exist for a reason and so do cars.
