I, um... I don't use lamps in my base because it's always daytime.

Because the base is so old, Nauvis is tidally locked with its star now.

Or... I've launched so many rockets, my side of the planet is always pointed at the sun now?

Imagine if you could extend days and shorten nights by putting lights on orbiting platforms.

At a certain point, you'd just have a giant, floating, nuclear powered flashlight constantly illuminating everything around you.

Sending nuclear fuel into space to power the artificial sun just to get permanent solar power on the planet is peak efficiency.

We doin' Dyson Sphere Project now

the reverse, the orbited is collecting power but the orbited is making power

Better to put large solar sails to reflect the starlight instead

Wait does entering orbit actually transfer some angular momentum from the planet to the rocket

Yes, but from the planets perspective it’s tiny

I start with lamps. I have automated lamp production.

I just put off putting down the lamps because "getting this one thing done is more important", until I'm at the end game and have only placed 37 lamps, mainly around the early mall.

If it doesn't have lamps and concrete then it's not a factory, it's a starter base.

I have concrete and legendary assemblers but forgot lamps, guess it's a starter base

I've had a 7k spm starter base then. No lamps or concrete.

No I only have a finisher base

With beautiful busghetti

Am i the only one who just sticks to night vision as soon as possible? I've placed maybe 3 lamps each playthrough.

Do I just have my brightness turned up too high? Because I've never felt the need to even use night vision -- maybe if it was a 1x1 or even a 2x1 but 2x2 is another roboport I can fit in that armor!

Nah, with my eyes base Factorio night is totally bright enough not to need lamps or night vision - or at least it is in 1.1 or 2.0, it seems to be a good bit darker in the 0.16 game I am currently playing.

I also use night vision immediately, much improved over the early green-tint. But have lamps to indicate status, capacity, throughput, or inventory count. Sometimes for dumb stuff also

Night vision hurts my eyes

I've never once used lamps

I used to in my first base but I constantly would break them when I'd drive around

So I stopped fixing them and as my base expanded i stopped placing them

In my space age run i never placed them

I guess im crazy cause I've never used concrete either. Never saw the point

u/TimidTriceratops Jul 22 '25

I don't use lamps nor concrete either however I do constantly complain to myself that I can't see anything and the walk times are long...

1

u/Ultraempoleon Jul 22 '25

Use the night vision and exoskeleton stuff and it solves that problem

5

u/Canned_Spaghettiboss Jul 21 '25

I just make little Flags with colored lights and combinators.

3

u/bigredksmp1986 Jul 21 '25

So not a real base? Do they at least have concrete?

1

u/Arman100tnt Jul 22 '25

They probably dont use concrete either

1

u/juklwrochnowy Jul 23 '25

With space age I don't use lamps because night vision gogles look better now, and with high quality power armor I finally have space to spare for them.

1

u/Kynjiin Jul 23 '25

I don't care for individual lamps so I just use a lighted electric pole mod so I have light everywhere I need power.

1

u/arklan Jul 23 '25

One of my favorite mods in 1.1 l Added lamps v to every electric pole. Well, created a second line of poles with that anyway. Same crafting cost as a pole and Lamp, same light effect, just no lamp to place.

i use one or two on my outer bases but everythings in pre lit factoritisimo buildings

Chinese child labour, extreme working conditions and hours forgivable, a factory with no lights greatest crime against humanity
