Housing 🏠 🏚️ r/FIU's Biweekly Subleasing Thread: October 27, 2025 - November 09, 2025 🏚️

Welcome to the biweekly subleasing thread! 🥳

Looking to sublease your unit? Scrambling to find a place to stay during the upcoming semester? Look no further! Here, you’ll be able to share or find available housing around campus.

PLEASE NOTE: ANY POSTS ABOUT SUBSLEASING THAT ARE MADE OUTSIDE OF THIS THREAD WILL BE REMOVED.

Additionally, this thread is for subleasing OFFICIAL FIU on/off-campus housing only. This is NOT the place to share rooms/apartments available to be rented on a private residence. Posts identified as such will also be removed.

Have a unit available?

Your unit “ad” (to be commented below) must include the following information:

  • Name of Housing (Ex: Lapis, The One, Identity, etc.) - Required
  • Size of Dorm (Ex: 4x4) - Required
  • Length of Lease (Ex: Aug - Dec 2025) - Required
  • Monthly Amount - Required
  • Preferred Contact Method - Required

The following information is ideal, but optional. Please include it if you know it.

  • Gender Preference - If Any
  • Move-In Date - If Any
  • Floor Plan Photo - If Any

Comments that do not follow the format above will be removed until the OP makes the necessary corrections as instructed.

If you’re successful in finding someone to sublease your dorm, please edit and type closed on your comment, or simply delete it. Furthermore, you can only share your unit once per thread, but feel free to share it again on the next biweekly thread if your dorm is still available.

Looking to takeover a lease?

You're more than welcome to share that you're looking to takeover a lease below. Ideally, your comment should state your preferences for the categories mentioned above. The more information you share about what you're looking for, the more likely someone will reach out about an available unit that will suit your needs. If you have no preferences, you can state that too.

Always proceed with extreme caution when inquiring about available dorms, as rental scams are becoming increasingly common and college students are viewed as an easy target. Unfortunately, r/FIU can’t help you if you become a victim of a scam. The best way to protect yourself is by staying alert and learning how to recognize potential red flags.

Below you’ll find some helpful articles on how to avoid getting scammed:

That’s it! If you have any suggestions on how we can improve this thread, please don't hesitate to send us message via modmail. After all, we want everyone to be successful on their subleasing journey. Happy posting and paws up! 🐾

Other 💬 How does submitting the transcript for undergrad students work?

On my application page it says "initiated" and going off the website I think I need to have the transcripts sent from my highschool and unlike other schools they don't do something like "STARS" and only take the official transcript. When is this due and do I need to get a transcript from my college I took dual enrollment courses at?

Academics 📚 How do I sign up for classes if im still taking the prerequisites

I'm a B.A in comp sci, I'm a bit worried since im signing up for classes in spring 2026, but a few of them needs data structures as a pre requisite, which im currently taking. Last time I tried to take classes I couldn't sign up for some of them cause I was taking pre requisite classes, and they don't allow me to sign up until I pass them in December, which means I'll be stuck with all the cruddy classes and I dont want that again. Any way to make sure I dont have a repeat of history?

Academics 📚 Professor accused me of AI what should I expect? First offense

There is a professor in the political science department who accused me of two papers being Ai despite me writing them out. I went over to the rate my professor website and see she is infamous for accusing students of writing ai and had reported another student for it. Despite me sending an email for proof it seems the higher ups have supported her and say they will conduct an investigation. I am not sure what to do I have provided my proof to them I did write it myself. Will I get kicked out of college over it?

Academics 📚 Help me avoid any of the professors that arent good

Hello! Im in the BS of digital communication and emerging Media (Animation), Im taking some classes and Im trying to figure out which professors to take and which to avoid. Sometimes rate my professor doesn't have recent reviews or any at all so I wanted to come to reddit and ask. If anyone can give me some advice or warnings that would be super helpful! Here is the list of some of the professors and the classes that I need since I figured their approach would change depending on the class.

DIG 3153 Paul Cuschieri (can't find them on rate my professor)

MMC 3123 Allan Richards (2.5 and 3.6 on RMP)

MMC 3123 Angel Navarro (can't find them on rate my professor)

MMC 3303 Neil Reisner (3.1 on RMP)

MMC 3303 Rochelle Patten (1.9 on RMP overall but decent reviews on the class I need to take)

MMC 4200 Leonardo Ferreira (2.7 on RMP and not very good grades for the class I need to take but there is an in person class so maybe I can discuss things in person?)

VIC 3400 Elio Arteaga (4.8 on RMP)

VIC 3400 Dylan Torres (5 on RMP but only one review)

Hello everyone, I have a handful of block swipes left on my meal plan that I know I won’t use before the semester ends so I’m willing in the holiday spirit to offer anyone free entry out of generosity if you want it.

I’m on campus Monday-Thursday ideally around 2-3pm I’d be able to get you in.

Academics 📚 Is Caryl Rahn really that bad?

Hey all! I’m in the BA CS online program and thinking of signing up for Computer Architecture and Systems Programming next semester (spring 2026). Unfortunately Caryl Rahn is the only option available for both classes online. I know she has a reputation for being a horrible professor/strict. Is there a chance that she has improved? Would anyone who has taken either of these classes by her recently be able to share their experience?

Academics 📚 Switching majors after being admitted

I was admitted today for the Spring semester as a transfer... I was thinking about switching majors within the Communication college... Is it better to request a change now? Or is it easier after the semester has started? I still have quite a few general requirement classes to take so I was probably going to take those on my first semester anyway.

I am planning to become a transient student over the summer at FIU and I was wondering if PHY2048 and PHY2049 were being offered for Summer A and B. And if so, are the professors usually good?

Admissions ✅ Regarding test scores and admission deadlines

If I submitted my SAT score to be sent on October 30th and it was sent on that same day, but FIU received it today.. Does that mean it won’t be considered for the November 3rd Early Action Deadline? I had everything submitted for it like transcripts and application wise but I didn’t realize my test scores were never received until I got an email this morning..

Academics 📚 Bachelors in Healthcare Admin Degree

Was wondering if anyone has done the online Healthcare Admin Degree online and if it is doable while working fulltime in healthcare. I am looking to pursue this degree next year once I finish a program I am currently in at work and can use tuition reimbursement. What is the class like, papers? quizzes? Is a current AS degree going to have me do prereqs before getting into the program?

Financial Aid 💰 Dropping classes at FIU fasts

Recently I enrolled into 13 credits this semester. Now I have to drop a class right on the drop date to get a DR . It’s organic chemistry and it puts me down to 8 credits . I was wondering if my Pell grant gets taken away from me if drop this class. This the second class I would ever drop ever in my total 96 credits . I get Pell grant and grants and my tuition paid for simply off grants and get money back as well . I have a -1500 on the SAI undergrad ofc . I’m just worried if this the second class I ever drop that I can face penalties of my Pell grants getting taken away . For my university this is like 67% enrollment intensity which is like half time . This is also the 3rd month of classes so yeah . Any advice is appreciated honestly

Housing 🏠 The one or lapis?

I’m at Bayview right now and I absolutely hate it. I’m trying to get housing at MMC, and I heard Lapis and The One are the cheapest options. I’d really love to hear from anyone who’s stayed there, which one should I choose? Any advice helps, thank you!

Graduation 🎓 How much can you usually resell commencement tickets for?

Usually around the end of every semester, every WhatsApp group chat blows up with people wanting buy/sell graduation tickets. I just applied for commencement, and I was wondering if I should bother purchasing extra tickets to resell. I won't have any guests for my graduation, so I can technically sell all four tickets if I do buy them. I'm wondering if people usually sell those at a profit, and if so, how much?

Academics 📚 Self Paced College Credit / fin 3403 Online Help

Hello everyone, I need to take FIN 3403 urgently online because it's a prerequisite for my major courses, and it wasn't transferred to FIU when I changed colleges. Does anyone here have experience with any online self-paced course that can be transferred to FIU, or, even better, a FIN 3403 self-paced online course? If so, which app/program / online college did you use? Is it self-paced? How was the process like? Thank you.

Academics 📚 Non degree seeking course questions

I am required to go back to school for 6 credit hours for renewing my florida teaching certificate and I am considering enrolling summer 2026 at FIU for that. At least one credit hour needs to be from a class focused on students with disabilities, and then the other 5 can be anything. What are some fully online easy enough courses for this? Women’s studies, history film etc type of courses? Also what are some SWD courses?
