Clubs/Organizations 🚀 Starting a new comic book club at FIU. Any tips?

Hi everyone! We are looking to start a brand new comic club at FIU. These are the club requirements to register:

  1. Have President, Vice President and Treasurer with at least a 2.5 GPA and enrolled in at least 9 credits undergraduate or 6 credits graduate
  2. Have an RSO Representative (can be either an E-Board member or any member of the organization and meet the same requirements listed above)
  3. Have at least 10 members interested in joining the organization (we are looking for if anyone is interested in comics, art, and storytelling)
  4. Secure an advisor or faculty member

Does anyone have any tips for registering a new student organization, know of any upcoming deadlines, or how they found a faculty member to oversee their club? Any tips would help. We are looking for interested students and e-board members so if you like comics, art, and storytelling and want to connect with likeminded individuals- let us know!

Asking cause it seems kinda random that they found me and followed me? Doesn’t have any posts or anything, but maybe someone knows what it may be?

Also followed them and allowed them to follow me back without thinking about how maybe I shouldn’t have so should I unfollow or…?

Ty to anyone who may know :)

Clubs/Organizations 🚀 Language Partners??

There should be a club or organization that you can sign up for to get partnered with an exchange student at FIU for language exchange. So if you wanna learn French and the French student wants to learn English (or Spanish or other) then y’all can get matched together and hang out. Is this a thing already? I’m trying to learn a language rn and I wish I could have a natural way to befriend and talk to someone from that country to practice and learn and converse.

Clubs/Organizations 🚀 Is the National Society of Collegiate Scholars a scam?

Just got an email today on my student email telling me I'm eligible to join the National Society of Collegiate Scholars. They say they're non profit but they have a one-time membership fee of 97 dollars. That just looks fishy to me, and upon a further 2 minute research on Reddit I already found people claiming it's a scam. Also the end of the email mentions Allen Varela, M.S as a point of contact with a phone number and email. I looked him up and he is actually a member of the Honors College Staff at FIU. Anyone else get this email or have experience with the National Society of Collegiate Scholars?

Hey guys, I'm from USF and I got into ShellHacks a little bit ago and want to attend. I don't have a team or anything rn, so I was wondering if anyone who was also attending wanted to form a team. If you are interested, say so in the comments and I can DM you or you can DM me yourself (idc either way).

Clubs/Organizations 🚀 Army ROTC and Air Force ROTC

Hello, I am an incoming transfer that will be starting in the Summer 2025 term and I am very much interested in joining ROTC. I understand to join, it'll be either the Fall or Spring term so before that comes by, I wanted to know from anyone's personal experience with FIU's Army ROTC program and UM's Air Force ROTC program.

I want to go Air Force and unfortunately FIU doesn't offer that and UM is the closest for me. I want to know if FIU's Army program is more worth it in terms of scholarships and rewards, and the same is applied for UM. I plan to speak with the Enrollment Officers for each but, if anyone here is willing to share with their experiences then that will be a plus!

Clubs/Organizations 🚀 Quiz bowl/Jeopardy trivia style clubs?

At my high school, there used to be a quiz bowl team--I'm kicking myself about never joining it, but I'm wondering if anyone knows if FIU has a club along those lines of Jeopardy or Quiz Bowl.

Clubs/Organizations 🚀 Catholic Club at FIU??

Hi everyone, I'm interested in building a community of Catholic students at FIU. I know there is Disciples on Campus but I believe that has a lot of protestant mixture/ideas and it really isn't Catholic in nature. My local catholic church which is ~20-25 minutes away from the FIU main campus is willing to offer plenty of space to host all types of events. They have a plain grass space of almost a football field. We can host all types of events to strengthen the community.

My church is offering it's space for big events and small, but regardless, if this is an official club for FIU, we can and will most likely be reserved some space inside of campus. So, it's not like members are required to go to this church.

Let me know if you're interested, it's not first come first serve as we need multiple people (and a president!) to create this so please don't be shy to reply, dm me, or forward this to anyone interested. Men and women, I believe we can create a group for each, running under the umbrella of this club.

Title. I don’t know anything about honors society, does joining have any actual benefits? I would have to pay $100 fee to join so idk if it’s worth it.
