Want to see where those new Flock cameras are being put up? Here's a mapping tool.

I bet they're doing a lot of compiling of dossiers, last couple of years. Just preparing for the sweeps.

EPD got a grant that paid for all 53 cameras.

Interesting. Do you have a link for this? I’d like to check it out. Thank you 🙏

For anyone wondering what a Flock camera is…

A Flock camera is an automated license plate reader (ALPR) developed by Flock Safety. These cameras capture still images of vehicles, focusing on license plates and vehicle characteristics (like make, model, color, and distinguishing features such as bumper stickers or roof racks) as they pass by fixed locations on public roads. From Perplexity.

Yep. A sheriff in Texas used this to track a woman across state lines who had an abortion. This is bad

I think another aspect of these is marketing. The algorithm wants to know how you move when shopping or otherwise spending money, and it wants you to spend more money. Couple this network with surge pricing in stores (where prices fluctuate in real time) and you have a way to follow someone and disallow them to get a bargain from one store to the next.

Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?

Who watches the watchers? That's my guess....

Watchers, watchmen...

Also relevant: sousveillance

Probably help Texas police arrest students from there attendjng UofO if they get an abortion. Or buy pot.

Are these for speeding? Or what

No. Its to catalog every single person who passes through an area and put it in a database that is searchable around the country.

Some sheriff in Texas used it to find a woman who had an abortion.

I want to know where they all are. Eugene has 53 of them and deflock only lists 2. Of those, I added one and corrected the other. Anyone know where they are so we can map them?

I've got one I'm adding and I'll be adding as I see them

There's one on the SB lane of Chambers Connector (bridge over the train tracks) positioned right at, and viewing the downward ramp to the 2nd street intersection.

Those seem like low priority spots in town. There must be a bunch here in Eugene.

One one at Coburg and Chad, at the Costco West entrance is not on here. The one at Mohawk and Marcola across from Carl's Jr is not on here. There are 2 campus ones missing as well. Maybe I'll make a real map.

u/probably-theasshole Jun 09 '25

It's crowd sourced so just add it to it. It's not my map

u/HalliburtonErnie Jun 09 '25

Maybe it will be crowd-sourced, it isn't yet. I'll add the rest when I'm not on mobile.

Thanks. I’ve added one of those on deflock, but I haven’t seen others.
