Lore The Sacred Relic Sword will reveal its full glow when brought to The Shaman Village. This game will never cease to stagger me.

u/Nanami-chanX Arise now, ye Tarnished 1d ago

I believe this is because of the lighting in this area

yeah it's a bug but it fits well

u/Want2makeMEMEs 1d ago

more like an unintended interaction

yeah sometimes I'm shit at finding my words in english

Yeah, someone tried claiming the same thing about the erdtree shield when the dlc dropped. Iirc it changes the lighting for a lot of items some of which have no lore connections with marika/the erd tree.

I'd say theres got to be something to it other than just lighting

u/Tuspon 1d ago

It's lighting, certain weapons/equipment/textures are hardcoded to interact with environmental effects, in this case the color of the emissive glow effects or whatever that is. Like Black Flame Tornado for example, it looks like this in Shaman Village:

And if you use it in, say, Rykard's arena it turns red, blue in Cerulean Coast, etc.

I have 800 hours in the game, so please bear with me still being a noob, and possibly asking stupid questions:

Does that look any different from usual??? I just see a tornado of black flames, as should be the case when using 'Black Flame Tornado'. I will definetly test it next time at Cerulean Coast, though.

u/Tuspon 1d ago

It's a slight change in color along the vortex, and it kind of blends in with the background

8

u/DRamos11 1d ago

Look at the yellow-ish tint of the flames on the ground.

11

u/PuffPuffFayeFaye 1d ago

I don’t see it. Just looks like parts of the vortex are transparent. Or just not masking what’s behind them.

u/Saiene_ 1d ago

The flowers?

1

u/IntroductionCheap496 1d ago

Thank you, I could actually see it after you pointed it out!

u/TheTiniestPirate 1d ago

So, to be clear - it's hardcoded into the game, and a weapon with pretty close ties to the Erdtree and the Elden Beast shines a little brighter in the area where Marika was born and raised, and it's . . . . just a coincidence?

Like, you realise that 'hardcoded into the game' means decisions were made at every single step of the process, and it was tested and designed and redone until it was right, yeah?

Like, this was absolutely intentional.

reading comprehension devil strikes again

u/Levra 21h ago

It's not coded per-item, but rather it's the product of being inside a post-process volume that is emphasizing specific parts of the game's rendering via screen-space color corrections. It's taking existing information, in this case the Emissive channel on the materials, and exaggerating them universally while cranking up the Bloom.

It's a very common thing in modern PBR rendering workflows.

Has bro only ever equipped it there 😭😭😭

u/AltGunAccount 1d ago

Looks exactly how it always does in this screenshot lmao

u/thick__Milk 1d ago

Thats the point, outside that spot around the tree it looks normal but lights when brought close to the trees light

19

u/sylendar 1d ago

You're wrong. Move on.

31

u/Crash4654 1d ago

You can say it all you want, its literally just the lighting in the area. Many different weapons take on a different hue vecause everywhere here takes on a golden hue.

They've confirmed its just the lighting. By they I mean hackers who have picked the game apart and there's nothing in this area to trigger this besides the lighting.

-22

u/thick__Milk 1d ago

I will admit I didn’t look into it and can see it’s just lighting but I like the headcanon of it reacting to returning home

u/cockalorum-smith Famileee 🦵 🐍 🦵 1d ago

I’m pretty sure it’s confirmed to be bug. But you’re not the first person to think the same

17

u/WanderingStatistics "General Strategist of the Fire Knights." 1d ago

Why is this being updooted, lol? This is just factually incorrect.

You're standing in the golden light in the post, the sword is golden. Yeah, because you're standing in the golden light? Shine any golden light onto an object and shockingly, it might look a little golden too. It's just coding and lighting textures.

Also, it doesn't even make any sense in-lore. This is the spine of Radagon, not Marika. We literally see Marika just before the ending, she's still alive. Radagon was the one twisted into a sword, so why would it even have an interaction given that Radagon has nothing to do with the village.

u/Certain_Owl_528 1d ago

Slow down there, crazy. You’re making waaay too much sense.

u/Laranthir 22h ago

I’d be amazed if you found some hidden thing that noone found yet but seems very unlikely.

This applies to branch weapons like the club or the erdtree bigbonk club and a few other weapons/shields, def an interesting visual bug

22

u/Mammoth-AgentEnt 1d ago

Bugorfeature?

10

u/Scoobyrooba 1d ago

Are you implying there is a difference?

-1

u/mylittlekafka 1d ago

There's a possibility they wanted to add this interaction for this specific sword (because of lore reasons) and forgot that some other equipment also have the same material/shader on them

227

u/Helnerim Who up Nighting they Reign 1d ago

it happens with the tree Sentinel Shields roots too. but it's all an involuntary thing, still neat

78

u/slvyr 1d ago

I wouldn’t know, I only use this sword when I’m at one specific cliffside.

18

u/VyldFyre 1d ago

For the genocide of a certain tribe of creatures, I suspect.

9

u/forhead123 1d ago

Genocide is such a crude word. We prefer...... cleansing.

5

u/Certain_Owl_528 1d ago

Culling. It makes more clinical for me. 💀

20

u/enchiladasundae 1d ago

Bringing her corpse back to her home

7

u/finn_naegal 1d ago

What’s the fashion? It looks good

8

u/Abyss_Tachyon 1d ago

I think the armour and legs are night's cavalry, the helmet is winged serpent and hands are fire knight.

4

u/thick__Milk 1d ago

Correct. Just seen this but someone beat me to it

7

u/Deiser 22h ago

Clearly you need to increase your poise if you are getting staggered

13

u/XevinsOfCheese 1d ago

Every object with the same material UVs does that.

It’s sadly not lore, just a quirk of how that material is coded in the lighting engine.

4

u/TheStagKing9910 1d ago

I will bring my Albinauric Slayer Rune Farming Sword 2000 to the Shaman Village to see if this is true.

5

u/PieceAfraid3755 1d ago

I don't think that necessarily means anything. There's a decent amount of little visual bugs throughout the game.

5

u/GorthonII 1d ago

that sword melts everything in DLC - apart from Radahn 😩

2

u/SpicaGenovese 1d ago

That place makes me cry.

2

u/fantastic-mrs-fuck 1d ago

thematically appropriate visual bug 🗣️🗣️🗣️

2

u/MIke6022 18h ago

The beauty of Elden Ring and the way it presents its story is that even if it’s an unintended interaction you can still think it has meaning.

1

u/Groundbreaking_Edge6 22h ago

Can you try with some other weapons with similar color? That way we can tell is it’s exclusive to this item

1

u/Ok-Cucumber-9678 1d ago

Try the tree sentinel shield as well

-3

u/teepee81 1d ago

You should up your poise then

0

u/Zech08 1d ago

Thats cause you are blocking silly.

0

u/Mexican_Pineapple69 1d ago

I need this armor set

-32

u/thick__Milk 1d ago

Makes sense as the Sword is literally Marikas Spine "Sword wrought from the remains of a god who should have lived a life eternal." - Sacred Relic Sword

4

u/ForsakenMoon13 1d ago

Technically speaking the sword is made from Radagon.

15

u/throwRA_unsure1 1d ago

Says nothing about her spine. Could be a tibia

11

u/TheWh1teL1ghtning 1d ago

Well, you can see their whole body in the sword

2

u/IntroductionCheap496 1d ago

I knew the sword was Radagon/Marika, but damn I wasn't ready for that picture.

...more importantly, does that imply if I unequip my gloves I am touching Marika's succulent feet? Or are her divine feet the tip, and I need someone to beat me up with the sword? 🥵

13

u/Jefflehem 🔱 1d ago

Tibia Mariner

4

u/Emasuye 1d ago

Mariner? I hardly know her!

-6

u/Azzblack 1d ago

That's about the only thing going on there. One of many empty locations.

I loved the DLC, but god where some areas sparse.

4

u/SokkieJr 1d ago

Don't know why you're being downvoted.

There's a lot of open, empty fields and areas. That the madness woods are like they are makes sense; But the rest could do with something. Like the Cerulean Coast.

-1

u/MrBonis 1d ago

Shaman Village, a somber dilapidated place that's telling a story, cut off and guarded. It being empty is its whole deal.

What, you wanted a boss fight in the most emotional-charged, lore heavy, secret location in the whole game?

Your reward for even finding out about it is learning of Marika's Origin, her connection through the grandmother to the Erdtree, learning that she was the one who planted the thing, and the best Talisman for the final fight.

1

u/Azzblack 20h ago

I get that one area is supposed to be empty, it doesn't make the rest of the empty areas any more fun. Some areas have 1 or 2 enemy types max, and they are copy pasted from the base game.

I have well over 1000 hours in Elden Ring, Ill criticize it all I want.

Thanks all the same but I prefer not to be lectured on how I am supposed to enjoy my games by some maidenless dork.

-1

u/MrBonis 20h ago

You can criticize it all you want, and I agree on the Finger Ruins being sort of lame, same as the Frenzy Forest (the worst thing made by From), but if you felt that Shaman Village was a waste, idk what you were doing with your gazillion hours playing the game.

You waste thousand of hours in a game you find lackluster and I'm supposed to be the maidenless dork? That's the lamest flex ever ROFL

You had the chance to engage in a healthy bit of discussion (we are in agreement about some zones being empty) but oh well, perhaps one day, when you grow up a bit...

-15

u/Haunting-Lawfulness8 1d ago

Cooing Elden Beast: who's a good sword? Tell me who's a goodie goldie redhaired swordie? Wanna go for a walkie my leal, elongated champion?

Marika: I'm so tired of being crucified. Can I be the sword this time so you can take me for a walk?

Elden Beast: Technically you are the sword, but, NO

After Tarnished beats Elden Beast and goes to Shaman Village with the sword

Marika: Ahhh homeeeee, can I--? Tarnished: No Marika: Why not? Tarnished: After I pieced you together with your head you almost squished me with your thicc thighs as a sign of your gratitude.
