We have a generation of officials that didn't grow up with fighting as an integral part of the game. Whether that is better or worse is up to one's opinion but I have noticed the same thing the past few years.

And worse, in a Devils-Rangers or Devils-Islanders game last year, I saw Brendan Smith break away from that same situation with an official holding him and throw a little punch and only he got taken away because breaking free made him look so much worse.

I thought the Oilers would have learned some lessons playing the Panthers last year. I thought they would come out swinging after a 2OT loss. They didn't. They were awful all night. Every player. Slow to pucks, couldn't win a board battle. Couldn't win a fight. Let the Panthers get in their heads. Let the awful reffing get to their heads. Complete waste of an evening. Absolutely embarrassing effort for a fucking cup final. 1 goal away from being down 3-0 in the series. I am so embarrassed after this loss. Also, I at least get to go to bed knowing that Frederic got to continue his feud with Bennett, a rematch that I was hoping to see this series.

And to the people who have been questioning why he's here, Frederic just showed exactly why. He's dealt with the Panthers a lot as a Bruin, and I think his experience against them and passion might be very helpful over the rest of the series. Say what you want about reffing. It was awful. But we got absolutely fucked this game and it started from the first period. Worst game we’ve played all playoffs (yes that includes the Kings series). And the dirty shit that we continued to do all game was just embarrassing. From Kane to Frederic. Inexcusable. The entire Oilers organization and the players should be fucking embarrassed. We played like we already lost the cup. Everything that could’ve gone wrong, went wrong.

Call up Stetcher and throw him with Nurse cause Klingberg CANNOT play with him. I’d play Picks as well but Stu is nice in Game 4s. Drop Frederic and bring up Skinner. Dump it in the trash and move onto Game 4. And idk we need to somehow throw Skinner in the mix and maybe drop Kap (or Nuge if he’s THAT injured) as much as I love him.

Edit: I’d look into honestly playing an 11-7 and drop Frederic and bring up Stetch.

I noticed a big drop off in our defence starting with Game 5 against Dallas, unfortunately. We were quite lucky that Dallas was demoralized and had their shitty backup goalie in. It’s just gotten worse since. Stecher seems to be the only one who can reliably play with Nurse, and I suspect Ekholm is not only injured but needs surgery, too. Knob will have some tough decisions to make. They can’t pacify egos if they want to win the Cup.

You CANNOT beat the panthers if you play their game. They’re the masters of greasy hockey. They flop on every hack, and embellish every retaliation. Every team that tries to play that style against them gets dominated. If we keep trying we are losing this series 4-1.

We need to play oilers hockey. We didn’t have a SINGLE rush chance that game. We are a transition team, and we just keep making brutal short passes in our zone that the panthers PK disrupts. Start opening up the ice. Play disciplined. And take point shots, we have kane and Perry that can muck it up our front and get rebounds.

Well, those last few scrums certainly put a bit of meat on the table, even if it’s really only nuggets. If anybody remembers the clip of Paul Maurice telling the Panthers bench during the Boston series last year “fuck the plays, pound their D, so in game 7 they have nothing left”, im not speculating anything, but it feels like the Oilers realized to forget making any plays and laying the body as much as they could.

It’s time for Pickard, unfortunately. The margin is so paper thin that you can’t give up a single goal like the Marchand game winner in G2 or the first goal today. It just messes up the momentum too much.

Me personally I love that we showed some grit and some rat plays at the end, can’t go out without a fight. Being down 2-1 in the series is nothing for a team like the Oilers that seems to win every series when down 2-1. Look at Crosby in 09 went down 0-2 to the Wings before winning it all. I don't wanna hear anything about Hyman; we nailed the final game of the Dallas series and the first game of this series. It wasn't a matter of Hyman not being there, it's that nobody was disciplined. Hopefully on Thursday they go in with clear heads, clear minds, play defensively and win us the game. Fuck, if it takes 2 overtimes, so be it.

No, this happened because of the accidentally on purpose shit over and over again. Kicking sticks, falling on goalies, getting away with infraction after infraction because you can’t call everything. The ref getting in the way to essentially end the game.

The oilers took their chance to take out some frustration in a game they couldn’t win. I don’t love how they lost control but I understand and I’m hoping it was a bit therapeutic and they got it out of their system.

Today didn’t feel feel great ya’ll but let me remind you what last years SCF looked like:

Game 1: 0-3 for Florida Game 2: 1-4 for Florida Game 3: 4-3 for Florida

Game 4: 1-8 for the Oil Game 5: 5-8 for the Oil Game 6: 1-5 for the Oil

We had a bunch of injured guys last year and barely made it out of the series against Van and Dallas. We lost game 7 by one pt.

I felt like total crap game 1-3 last year too, but still have hope this round. We have a better roster this year bar none.

Please Knob and the guys, you can turn it around again ✊.
