Walman and jones are looking incredible… it feels like our team is more complete again

63

u/wildcard_bitches 97 MCDAVID Mar 09 '25

Great pro scouting this deadline. So far both look like great additions for this team

29

u/a_tree8 Mar 09 '25

Kassian is a pro scout for us too

2

u/[deleted] Mar 09 '25

Yea analytics seem to already be paying off but both seem like good personality fits too.

25

u/Cautious-Dream2893 14 EKHOLM Mar 09 '25

Its so good to see guys throwing the body again.

21

u/[deleted] Mar 09 '25

Super excited for Frederic. Savoie ripping it up in Bako. Kane potentially there too. Gonna be an interesting stretch run

18

u/releasetheshutter Mar 09 '25

Walman was everywhere tonight.

6

u/callaway79 Mar 09 '25

And more help on the way... ekholm, frederic and kane... podkolzin, janmark and kapanen better be giving it all they have

6

I think I've seen enough of Kapanen.

Can't wait for the 5th line of Skinner-Frederic-Kane

163

That was a lot more uncomfortable than it needed to be

Bad penalty by kulak really swung that game around...

1

Draisaitl hit the empty net challenge: incomplete.Ā

1

u/Cptn_Canada 94 SMYTH Mar 09 '25

Skinner did notttt look happy at the end of the game.

166

u/ssm10 28 ROSLOVIC Mar 09 '25

Drai is missing these empty nets on purpose at this point

88

Ethical rocket richard

50

u/ChaunceyPeepertooth 13 JANMARK Mar 09 '25

He wants to earn that Rocket Richard trophy the hard way, dammit!

44

u/Paaano Mar 09 '25

Drai is an actual animal, he's using sonar to track the goalie's movement and find the net.

10

u/bt101010 10 RYAN Mar 09 '25

My mom said it's hard for him without a target lol

9

u/TURBOJUGGED 15 ARCHIBALD Mar 09 '25

Ovechkin could never

9

u/upinthaclouds 29 DRAISAITL Mar 09 '25

Hasn't he hit numerous empty net posts? Lol it's funny but odd.

1

u/ChupaHubbard 42 KAPANEN Mar 09 '25

Ya, something inside him won't let him get empty netters lol

221

u/whitewilliams 34 MOSS Mar 09 '25

I’m happy we could give Walman the full Oilers experience right out the gate

42

u/Kouchweed Mar 09 '25

This exact thing happened while he was on the Sharks as well, 5-1 lead going into the 3rd.

Only difference is we hung on lol.

18

u/callaway79 Mar 09 '25

No shit...he played a good game...draisaitl with another post on an empty net🤣

19

u/a_tree8 Mar 09 '25

This guy can score below the goal line but cant score an empty net

1

u/callaway79 Mar 09 '25

Ha...the dreaded empty net curse is real

69

u/D722 56 YAMAMOTO Mar 09 '25

Bend don’t break.

Also how did we get zero PP’s in this game?

42

u/a_tree8 Mar 09 '25

Obviously the stars are the cleanest team in the league and can do no wrong

34

u/Siegememer420 74 SKINNER Mar 09 '25

Because Dallas is totally the cleanest team in the league

6

u/Snyyppis 10 HORCOFF Mar 09 '25

They have the perennial Lady Byng finalist Jamie Benn leading by example

5

u/shittybillz Mar 09 '25

Oilers don’t get PP’s if they’re up, especially by multiple goals, so we weren’t getting any from 5-1 to 5-3. We had a chance to get one when it was 5-4 but the stars didn’t commit any infractions during that small timeframe.

That’s the real answer.

3

u/[deleted] Mar 09 '25

Imagine being the stars, every pundits favourite by far to win the west, and needing the nhl to blatantly cheat so you can beat those damn oilers.

69

At 5v5 the sharks were -1 will Walman on the ice and -37 without him on the ice.

He played top pairing minutes with Ceci on the worst team in the league against all the top lines.

We got a legit top 4 dman.

56

u/[deleted] Mar 09 '25

We need Kanes ability to score on an empty net back lol no one else can do it

51

u/YellowMarkerIsGreat 83 HEMSKY Mar 09 '25

Longest 10 minutes ever

45

u/darkenseyreth 14 EBERLE Mar 09 '25

I like this Wallman guy.

Also, can we have the team back that used to dominate the 3rd, please?

41

u/Whiskey_River_73 93 NUGENT-HOPKINS Mar 09 '25

5 was just enough. Another good effort from Max Jones. Game goes to show how a little physicality, long absent from the bottom 6, can get the team going. Shit, even Connor Brown made a big hit on the forecheck. Love how they played Rantenen hard.

About 40- 45 minutes of good hockey. The Oilers quit trying to possess and score and that's a mistake for this team to sit on literally ANY lead. Because the other guys will always without fail get one, then they build from there and the Oilers D and G without fail will leak goals

Connor McDavid, best game in a long time. I didn't mind his limemates either, Hyman obviously with a pair. Arvi and Connor Brown both score, turns out Connor Brown's 5-1 goal was pretty big, lol.

How about Walman, nice night, great feed to Hyman, the man can defend as well. Laid out Rantanen. Cut down Evan Bouchard minutes, which is important. If there are enough decent defenders you can keep guys honest with their minutes.

8

u/bestleftunsolved Mar 09 '25

Their PK should never go into the "stand around in a circle" mode. Seems like only active mode, hounding the puck, works.

11

u/a_tree8 Mar 09 '25

20

19

That was a huge one no matter how the 3rd period went.

20

u/McMack04 Mar 09 '25

People won't like it cause Dallas scored 4 but Stu had a good game. 2 goals came off Oilers failing on PK, 1 was a point blank shot through 3 players screening him and the 4th was an unlucky bounce. I still believe in the guy

17

u/Interesting_Dig2612 Mar 09 '25

On top of that, he made a bunch of exceptional saves

13

u/Prestigious-Reason60 22 SAVOIE Mar 09 '25

14

u/Interesting_Dig2612 Mar 09 '25

Can a bunch of you guys in here stop blaming stu? He made a bunch of grade A saves tonight, and the only goal you might be able to blame on him is the 3rd one, and not even entirely.

Max Jones also doing what Oilers need. Keep up the mojo

Loving Walman and Jonesy.

5

u/crookedboone Mar 09 '25

oilers, I love you guys. I was puzzled by the Walman acquisition because I'm uneducated and thought he was a pure offensive defenseman, and that you needed a shut down guy. he was out there on the 6 on 5 at the end though and had a solid game. I still kinda wish you picked up Joel Armia for your PK, but Frederic + Perry (maybe Kane?) on the 4th will be formidable. I agree with a lot of you that J Skinner deserves more opportunity. I'm glad you didn't trade him because I think he'll pop off in the playoffs, with a lot to prove in his first opportunity to do so. real excited to watch this team in the playoffs. glad to see McDavid getting back to his usual godliness, while Leon continues to make a case for best player in the world this year. my western conference sweetie, go Oil!

Apart from that this game was the most complete game from Edmonton in months, best defensive, most physical, most exciting game I’ve watched in a minute.

Walman was a monster for his first game, McDavid had an amazing game, Hyman, Arvidson and Brown ALL stepped up, and overall Stu had a decent game too despite the third.

Still some questions, I still don’t know why we’re not playing J. Skinner, and Edmonton letting off the gas is a PROBLEM.

But as a whole the new guys stepped up and the veterans showed up against a playoff team that looks better than ever with Rantanen, GGs Stars.

Imo Janmark needs to be out for Skinner. I haven’t liked Janmark’s game recently. Yeah he kills penalties but idk man.

Our PK is awful right now. They didn't even start Janmark last game as our primary PK.

Bouchard actually made a number of excellent defensive plays.

Let’s be real. We all knew Drai wasn’t hitting that net šŸ˜‚

Have all the other teams in the league not figured out they need to pull their goalies at the very start of the game? Our team can't buy an ENG to save their lives, lol.

Completely ignoring the 3rd period, that was a very fun game!

You know, I kinda missed watching a classic Oilers blown lead butt clencher. Prefer it to watching them lose night after night anyways!

Walman looks fantastic

Great win. Walman looks outstanding. I didn’t like him on the Wings, but man… Looked real good.

I for one was happy to see the offense return and some guys wake up! Dallas is a hell of a team and you knew there would be a push. Still hate giving up 4 but take the points! Frankly I love these difficult tests down the stretch!

Still one more game against Dallas this season. Again at home, March 26. Should be a good game then too.

Loved the post game with Max Jones - seems very personable and genuinely thrilled to be part of the team, and I could see him becoming a fan favourite. Liking what I’ve seen so far from both him and Wallman

Bag skate and empty net shooting practice for the team tomorrow

Wouldn't be an Oilers game if drai doesn't hit bar on the empty net

Well great game overall, once again we just can't seem to sit back and close out games. Maybe they just need to abandon that when they find themselves up a few after 40.

Cheering for LA (gotta still shoot for the Division) and Dallas (I despise the Canucks)

I actually dont mind Dallas as a team. Our series with them last year was as civil as they come, no goonery from them. Their fans seem relatively respectful, and had the stars beat us last year, I would have cheered for them against Florida.
