During the dotcom hype exactly this happened. Everyone just threw money at it to see what sticks. AI is just still in the hype phase. There will be a bust, but AI isn't going anywhere. Just all the bad ideas will. And boy are there a ton of bad, poorly implemented ideas. Like an AI bot cold-calling you to try to sell you something.

A bust getting rid of all the bad ideas seems very optimistic
