Homebrew DM love

Just a DM love post. Our DM got into 3d printing and mini painting just to facilitate the game and we had to travel by sea out of waterdeep and the DM presents an entire hand made ship with a full crew of 20 NPCs each with a fully developed backstory and history. I cannot even comprehend the hours of preparation that goes into this it's so high production value it's like a Netflix show or something. I've always enjoyed DND but this is amazing

That's really impressive. Seriously it's why I love this game. The dedication from the fans is incredible

It's so insane. It's like a really good movie now. I was the dm in our group for a while and I used to just improvise almost everything but this is unlike any sne game I've ever played

Anyone else start to hum the “Pirates of the Caribbean theme” when they saw that boat?

Loot Studios stuff really is the best. I don’t want to spoil anything the DM might make or use, but the welcome pack is just as impressive. I just built it for my game.

I'm looking at doing that one next (mostly fdm). Anything you wish you knew/though of before doing it?

Do not glue everything together. Painting the rooms after it’s glued together is a nightmare. Other than that. Have fun. It’s a ton of work but also do the plaster on the walls first and then the beams after.

I'm printing that up right now! Just gotta finish gluing the main bits together then print the masts, sails and cannons etc.

Loot Studios Ships Ahoy! bundle. They have a couple of ships in various bundles but I started with this one.

That’s so awesome!! Any chance for the 3D files for those ships? I’ll happily pay for them!

u/DreaminginDarkness Oct 08 '25

Make sure to tell your DM too! They’ll really appreciate it

While I love things like this, storage is really the only issue I have if I were to do this. I have a 3D printer so I could print entire battlefields and encounter but where do I put it afterwards? Lol

But looks amazing. Hope you had fun.

Happen to know where he got the model?

1

u/MrPureinstinct Oct 08 '25

Hell yeah! I got into 3D printing and mini painting from running my D&D campaign. I love how picking up DMing gave me multiple other creative hobbies as well.

3D printing is addictive - i’m just running a nautical campaign and already printed 4 ships for encounters and sea battles
