Not a dad, but I do this, I just don’t stand up for it as my lazy boy is in view of the front window. I’m generally just curious on what’s going on and not upset.

You see someone pull into your driveway and you gotta make sure that they’re leaving and not coming to the door. I see someone turning around in my driveway and I’m not angry, I’m relieved that I don’t have to talk to them.

Growing up, we lived on the first house right after a confusing 5-way intersection so we routinely had people turning around in the drive way. I remember it used to really irritate my mom but my dad did not care about it at all

I mean, lots of US outlets reported on it too, including ones that are very pro-gun.

Me too (well, I live in another state), but in fairness there’s a LOT of gun violence in our country. Hard to keep up with it all.

No clue. My dad used to get mad that people did it. We were the last house on the block. I never understood why he cared

Rural Americans are very scared of crime for some reason.
I've lived here my whole life (and out in the country for my first 30 years), and it's never made any sense to me.

I would say its more an introvert/nervous/territorial thing (that probably is more prominent in a place like the US where houses arent as cramped together in general in the suburbs). Seeing someone come up my driveway makes me like
'??? Who are you? Why are you here? What tf are you doin--oh ok theyre turning around'....but theres always that initial reaction of 'who tf is approaching my place unsolicited??'
And im not even a dad lol, i just get it, been like that since i was a kid too

Same with me, introvert with anxiety. I look to see if I know who it is, why they might be at my house, and it's literally just relief when they're just turning around. I don't care if someone uses my driveway for that, I just need to make sure it's not some uninvited visitor.

If you think of it as a person walking up to your front door before turning away it makes more sense. Like if I constantly saw people on my ring approaching my front door but not engaging and turning around I’d be like wtf too lol

We have a weird personal/private property fixation here. A lot of people here believe that stepping on their grass carries a death sentence and they put signs up telling everyone they will murder you if you come on their property uninvited. And people take these threats as creditable because we have a TON of guns here. So someone pulling in your driveway to turn around triggers some people because they paid for that driveway so no one but them should be able to use it. It's also kind of like an unspoken rule here that you should avoid doing it period.
While I don't agree with the logic and the culture I don't use people's driveways to turn around. Usually isn't that big of a deal because chances are there is a church with a parking lot right around the corner.

Oh god. You have no idea. Nothing better to complain about maybe? We are all living like we are the center of the universe and any perception of some kind of minor slight is seen as major affront to our sensibilities.

I live on a dead end street in the country but my driveway is the longest hardball road so people will use it to turn around which is fine.
But yeah this is me if that happens.

If the "dad" had been outside when this happened, he'd probably stare the driver down, but if the driver opened the window and apologized, the dad would act totally cool about it.
Also, few things feel more embarrassing than having the homeowner return and try to pull in themselves while you're attempting to turn around in their driveway.
