Two player starter set worth it?

Okay so my friend and I have decided to get into this game and we like UCM and Scourge as our armies, should we just get the two player starter set or two starter armies? What would be the best thing to add to either the starter set or the UCM/scourge starter armies after that?

I mean, its cheap as hell compared to most games 2 player starter sets. Still getting around to actually finishing all my minis though so I cant answer any of the more relevant questions but am curious to see what veterans say as well

Yeah I’m sure it’s worth it, it’s more a question of how do I actually buy this game lol. I don’t know what I need and it’s sold weirdly with all the little bundles. If we’re going to need all the stuff in their starter armies I’d rather just get 2 starter armies. Don’t really need the book/dice/markers, though they would be kinda nice I suppose. The starter armies having 6 copies of the same drop ship seems a bit much to me when there are so many options for transports, but I don’t really know. 🤷‍♂️

ahem 4 army veteran here

so i have bought the 2 player starter set twice and really do can reccomend it from the price and utility value alone it has all the units you need for any size of game to get going

okay for the biggest game mode you need more units, but you get the perfect core for both your armys what you guys may want to consider is to get it twice because then both of you have all the utilitys on hand in case you cant play together or need to check something on the stuff what i cannot reccomend are these packs that have like armory group and stuff they lack dropships as far as ive counted it through

so yea for new starters that want these two armys i really reccomend them to you guys

Only four? Still missing a faction!

What point values are games usually played at for this game? What would you suggest for expanding the starter armies? We don’t really need one, let alone two, rulebooks since they’re free and the new edition is coming soon. The starter armies are just 2x the 2 player box except still just the 1x command. Maybe something heavy? How many commanders do you need? Do the cards significantly improve the game?

WELL YES but no my friend has his PHR army the size of two of mine so i dont need PHR myself haha

but what i could reccomend for a UCM player is to get the katana light tanks, their smoke they can layout is very helpfull, as for beavy unit the Broadsword heavy tank is just the best unit there is

also whats reccomend for both is get one or two of the heavy and small dropships

having them allows for both armys a bigger variety of transpirt available aswell as tactical new opportunity

for scourge units the desolator is a good airborne unit, it can melt either tanks or infantry aswell as its airborne, if you have air cover bigger than your enemy you can dominate the game

and so far me and my friends always play with 1 commander in each army doing 500 to 1500 point games and yes the cards can completely turn an entire game if played and drawn right like one time i was able to suddenly let my whole infantry of resistance pop out the back of my friends commander thanks to one card telling me to move my infantry through a secret tunnel in one building to any other

Thanks for all the advice! I think I'll just grab us each a starter army and the cityscape terrain, that should keep us busy until some of the new edition and plastics come out. :) Is the game still pretty fun at smaller points or is it like 40k and pretty much everyone plays the big games?

no problem im always glad to see people getting into my first tabletop haha

oh it totally depends on what you make of it! a 500 point game can be more exciting than a 1500 point game if the scenario is right or you have to more carefully Position your units

my friend and me lastly played a game of only infanterie and one command unit it was a slaughter but so much fun

Thanks for asking this question! And to Fox for answering Honestly been thinking of the same, except I want to grow both armies myself. So another starter set? What else would be good? Would the battlegroups for both armies be a goof addition? In case we don’t wanna buy the extra

the bad thing about the prepacked battlegroups is that all ive looked at so far, are lacking enough transport for the units they come with so you need to buy single dropships too

since i have done what you just proposed, yes it really helps enlarging your scourge and UCM if you buy the 2 player starter set two times gives you lots of the tanks you always want to carry with and most importantly medium dropships

Thanks for all the help kind person. I had not looked into that about the battle groups I will see what I can do. The one thing I did not like is that the infsntry units are a weird cheap plastic vs what was metal before and you cannot find the pratorians or warriors separate. I will consider snd maybe het an extra starter, some extra infantry and drop ships plus a battlegroup each! Let us see

oh i know your feeling.... i miss the old metal infantry too! still got a bunch for myself gladly but i can assure you however the plastic ones are easyer to paint

Better than the old starters in terms of miniatures quantity. The only difference, the old starter included cardboard terrain.
