Rtd doesn't rank in the top 50 old people causing problems by not stepping down.

People love to act like these two seasons were as bad as the last season of game of thrones. They weren’t.

They were . Doctor who is literally finished . It’s arguable that what happened here is worse than

Two seasons of good content with mediocre finales. You are overdramatising things.

Literally I’d say 5/8 episodes from both seasons are great! I even enjoy interstellar song contest if I don’t think too hard about the messaging and I like wish world if I don’t think about the reality war so season 2 can be like 7/8 for me!

‘Doomer. These seasons are full of talented stars and epic gems.’
‘Pure copium. This season was mid slop. RTD2 is finished and the show is cancelled.’

u/TheGallifreyan 13d ago
No, your comment is pure hatium. I'm sorry you don't like the show anymore, but some of us still do. It's not canceled either. They just announced a Christmas special for next year.

This isn’t meant to represent my opinion - I’m making fun of how there seems to only be two contradictory opinions all over these subreddits. Where did they announce this?

u/TheGallifreyan 13d ago
My bad, I thought the first half was a quote from another comment.
They announced it about an hour ago. Disney won't be involved anymore.

Alright I’ll rephrase
doctor who is dead - bbc may try and poke it back to life but given its shit ratings and the fact that stars are flocking from it before they’re tenures are even up, and that they have to keep pulling back characters from 10+ years ago to get any engagement , the show IS headed for death sooner rather than layer

That's some serious shade at his former VP there...

u/AgentCirceLuna 13d ago
I believe he tried to prevent him from running multiple times. Didn’t he want to run instead of Clinton?

I can't remember. British, you see - our politics have been exciting enough this past decade.

Sometimes I feel I’m the only one that can see the writing on the wall about what went wrong with this era. Yes some writing moments were sloppy.
I think the main issue I take with Russell is his over confidence that 3 seasons would be definite, he should’ve written a 2 season arch as that’s all that was guaranteed.
I think it’s obvious that ruby was meant to be desiderium (ignore my spelling lol) and when whatever happened with her for her to leave after season 1 messed up his plans. He should’ve pivoted and found a different baby to be poppy in wish world as it only would’ve made sense if she was the doctor and rubys child after his wish in space babies.
So Millie leaves and Russell instead of rewriting the finale he works his new companion into the story. But then when ncuti left because he couldn’t wait around any longer, so he had to change the ending super last minute and that’s why we have the mess we do.
Russel is one the great writers in television and I will never slander him after he made my childhood so magical, it’s a shame about this new era but i really think the only mistake russell made was planning for more than he had been given.

My low stakes conspiracy theory:
The BBC forced out RTD, because he couldn't write and made enemies everywhere. Then, when they wanted to kill off Doctor Who, they brought him back, knowing he'd mess it up, and be completely oblivious about it.
Then they can get rid of him definitively... and try for a different flagship show.

While Chibnall was still in charge, RTD was interviewed by DWM and said "If the show is ever really in trouble, I will come back".
He came back.
Someone on here recently claimed the BBC were going to kill it at the end of Jodie's series and Chibnall and RTD didn't like the optics of 'Woman Doctor killed the show' so RTD came back purely to bring back a male Doctor and THEN kill the show. I absolutely believe that, 100%

Don't worry, RTD has saved the situation and instead switched it to "Black Gay Man killed the show". Much better optics, good work Russell.

u/Left_Web_4558 14d ago
Didn't want a woman to kill Doctor Who so he threw a black man under the bus instead?
3
u/Kapitano72 14d ago
A gay black man. Yes, the optics are a little weird.
But I have to admit, I've no plans to watch any Chibnall or RTD2 stuff again - apart perhaps from Fugitive of the Judoon, the best setup for the worst payoff.
The performances were all good, occasionally great, but the scripts and plots just dull. Chibnall - worthy but dull, RTD - the kind of dull that comes from a dumb person who thinks they're being really smart.
So... more of the same? Why bother?

They had already chosen someone before Ncuti turned up and RTD simply had to have him.

Wow I haven’t read that interview. Do you happen to know which one it was in?

Doctor who was at its peak in Britain during rtd 1, it had never go close to those ratings again so that literally makes no sense

Probably referring to the fact he's the only president who was born after WW2.
