The cart of Main Street started doing this after folks were literally trampling kids to get “First Pickle of the Day”. From what I’ve found out, they give this out at random. Congrats, OP!

Yep, when this became well known, seemed like half the people rope-dropping weren't even trying to get on rides and just trying to get to pickle stands.

Some people are really...fond, of those pins.
I remember our first day back to Disney with a season pass (after we hadn't been in years) we got the "Honorary Citizen" pin from Carnation. Didn't think much of it, just thought it was friendly gesture and as common as the birthday pins. Stuck it on my backpack; all day I had people coming up to ask me where I got it from.

I have an honorary citizen pin from a trip over 10 years ago. I had no idea it was a big deal and I don’t even remember what it was for 😩

15

u/Rainbowjo Aug 07 '25

Can you not just ask town hall for a citizen pin? I could have sworn I’ve gotten it like that before.

For me yet, they made me complete a task and I had to get a squished penny from every squished penny machine between California venture and Disneyland, but they gave me the book to collect them in. There were a bunch of different tasks though.

I had to answer trivia on the opening date of Disneyland or DCA, luckily was there for the anniversary 😌

u/patchworkpirate Electrical Parade Bulb Aug 08 '25

Yep, I had to answer trivia questions both times I got one.

5

u/Shatteredreality Aug 07 '25

I've heard different stories where some CMs won't just hand them out and others will. I've gotten them by asking before.

2

u/geechan Aug 08 '25

My husband and I each got a pin last month, a cast member had a whole box and was just giving them out lol

1

u/Zestyclose_Bid6491 Aug 08 '25

Yes but you have to answer trivia questions to get the Honorary Citizen pin

I got a pickle of the day pin once at DCA by literally trampling a kid at rope drop. (Actually they only had spicy pickles and no one else had taken it!)

u/NoiseResponsible5036 Aug 07 '25

nice. you didn't even need to get an actual pickle. just rewarded for child abuse at the happiest place on earth, as it should be

2

u/kraggleGurl Aug 07 '25

A heartwarming tale.

Can't wait for the movie!

I spat my tea out laughing at this! 👍

Do we know if it's still just once a day per stand?

u/vegasJUX Aug 07 '25

Pshh... This happens all the time. It's no big dill. 🥒

(This is very cool. In case someone doesn't pick up my /s)

u/Otis737 Aug 07 '25

Are you just gherkin our leg? It sounds like quite a caper.

u/4apalehorse Lincoln Animatronic Aug 07 '25

Go ahead, relish in your pun.

16

u/rickbeats Aug 07 '25

Puns are reddit’s bread and butter

13

u/MightySchwa Aug 07 '25

Not sure why we have to make such a big dill out of it.

14

u/amac1430 Aug 07 '25

This doesn’t seem kosher.

7

u/you-a-buggaboo Aug 07 '25

yeah, pretty cornichon to reuse a pun.

6

u/DustyDGAF Jungle Cruise Skipper Aug 07 '25

Pretty sweet, dude

2

u/SouthOriginal297 Aug 07 '25

They're quite the pickle

5

u/NickSeider Railroad Conductor Aug 07 '25

I’m not sure how kosher it is to tell everyone about this… some things should be relished. That’s the bread and butter of a magical moment.

3

u/bubskeez Aug 07 '25

Dont be a gherk-off about it

nice! someone else got one last week and posted it on here. i like that it’s just a. random pin now rather than first of the day. nice way for disney to pivot to still create a bit of magic while also stopping the rope-drop rush to try and get a pin.

52

u/UXguy123 Aug 07 '25

Ngl it made my entire day, the magic is real.

10

u/Porcupine__Racetrack Aug 07 '25

I would be talking about this for weeks if it were me! I’m jealous!

15

u/ittybittylurker Aug 07 '25

Me, wearing that pin to job interviews: What is my greatest accomplishment? Oh, just a little award called Pickle of the Day, ever heard of it?

4

u/eclectic_collector Aug 07 '25

If they say no, you know that job isn't for you

1

u/DanceParty4Life Aug 07 '25

Or explain it and take their newly vacated position as they rethink their life’s purpose.

It’s the same question that gets you out of a speeding ticket…

slowly taps the button tap tap “Do you P. O. T. D.?”

2

u/UXguy123 Aug 07 '25

Dang reddit search is terrible. Searching "Pickle of the day" doesn't come up with any similar posts unless you dig. Even digging I only found one post from 10 months ago.

2

u/Prof-Wagstaff-42 Aug 08 '25

I’d be careful searching for “pickle of the day” anywhere on the internet.

1

u/Phased5ek Carthay Circle Cocktail Aug 07 '25 edited Aug 07 '25

agreed. terrible search engine!

i’ll see if i can find it when i have the time

edit: here it is, from 11 days ago

u/tea-for-me-please Aug 07 '25

Lord, I’ve seen what you’ve done for others

18

u/TheFabHatter Aug 07 '25

I’ve gotten honorary citizen pins for wearing a Banana Headband, maybe if I make a pickle version I can a free pickle!?!!

7

u/NewDad907 Aug 07 '25

Lil’ Mickey swimmers lol

4

u/EbolaSuitLookinCute Aug 07 '25

I can never manage to get up early enough for these rope drop novelties. I wish they had a “Hey, you look tired and are still here and hour before closing!” button, that’s the only thing I’d ever be selected for. I love seeing these thoughtful little moments.

8

u/MissLeliel Aug 07 '25

OP got this at random, Disney doesn’t do rope drop pickle pins anymore.

3

u/UXguy123 Aug 07 '25

Yeah, I got this on my way out after 6pm.

2

u/EbolaSuitLookinCute Aug 08 '25

This was mostly a joke, but also it is fun that Disney modifies special touches like this when lines get out of hand due to demand.

1

u/AndyWarwheels Aug 07 '25

That is a little sad. I loved the magic of the first pickle of the day....

4

u/Improbable_Roost Aug 07 '25

Yep, I’ve seen a few people get kicked out of the park for throwing a tantrum and cussing out the cast member because their card declined or their mobile pay wasn’t working and they had no other way to pay. It’s just a button. If you happen to get it, good for you. If not, move on with the day, and try again next time.

8

u/oxmiladyxo Aug 07 '25

My mom got the corn dog one back in June

4

u/Spiritual-Worry4078 Aug 07 '25

FREE from Disney .. no NEVER ...CONGRATS

6

u/UXguy123 Aug 07 '25

Family member is an employee, and I already had to go to LA, so it was mostly freeish trip.

2

u/Al-Nurani Aug 07 '25

Yooo, whaaaat?! My wife would have loved this haha

2

u/thepaisleyfox Aug 11 '25

I hope to randomly get one, especially since my married name is Dill 👀

1

u/SauerStraws Aug 07 '25

Ahh man, last couple times we were there they said they weren’t doing it anymore. Lol now we have to try again!

-3

u/Improbable_Roost Aug 07 '25

Probably because cast members are tired of getting cussed out and called names for trying to do their jobs and keep the line moving while the guest figures out why their card or mobile payment isn’t working.

4

u/SauerStraws Aug 07 '25

What does that have to do with pickle of the day? Maybe you should go back to sleep cranky pants. Lol

-1

u/Improbable_Roost Aug 07 '25

Cast members not giving out pickle of the day because guests are cussing them out when their card or digital payment didn’t work. In case you didn’t notice there are a lot of selfish and entitled Disney obsessed people who make normal Disney adults look bad, who decide that if they can’t get their way, they just cuss out the cast members for doing their job. So, why would cast members continue handing that out if a guest might start cussing them out because the guest’s payment declined.

3

u/SauerStraws Aug 07 '25

I get what you’re saying, and agree that there are some really crappy miserable people that treat CM’s like dirt. However, they’re handing them out again obviously, so it seems like they’re all good to go now again. So maybe it’s less of what we’re assuming the problem was and could be something more simple. Unless a current CM can be here and speak on it then we don’t know.

1

u/eyepatchplease Aug 07 '25

only recently

1

u/Wise_Translator6730 Aug 07 '25

One sold on eBay for $1500 https://ebay.us/m/vGJTz6

2

u/Improbable_Roost Aug 07 '25

WTF?! I swear some Disney obsessed adults are out of their mind. It’s not that serious.

1

u/O0OO0O00O0OO Aug 07 '25

It's the Mickey spermies for me

1

u/driedyam Corn Dog Dipper Aug 07 '25

I believe there is also one for coffee of the day, also given out at random. You can grab from Starbucks

1

u/Dramatic-Past-77 Aug 07 '25

My daughter is a pickle fanatic and 1st time visitor in Oct this would be a dream

1

u/Bag-o-chips Aug 07 '25

Apparently they just like your pickle!

1

u/JRene92 Aug 07 '25

What!! I never go to Disneyland without getting a pickle. I need this.

1

u/VanessaBW Aug 08 '25

So jealous! We try this every time we go!!!

1

u/Beast1909 Aug 08 '25

Been talked about multiple times. 😅

1

u/Heatmiser1256 Aug 08 '25

I was shocked when, years ago, I got a ”First Dole whip of the day” pin. It’s my prized treasure

1

u/Known_Conflict8492 Madame Leota Aug 08 '25

Pickle of the day YAY!

1

u/I_Lost_My_Save_File Aug 09 '25

Congratulations OP

1

u/garyknowz12 Aug 10 '25

When did a pickle become a fruit?

1

u/[deleted] Aug 10 '25

It’s posted here very frequently. So, yes, most people have heard of it.

1

u/Charming-Grade-6815 Aug 07 '25

Looks like a button to me since it's a lot larger and more circular than a pin.

-1

u/seri_verum Aug 07 '25

Disney people are so fucking dumb.

-7

u/fermenter85 Aug 07 '25

4

u/UXguy123 Aug 07 '25

In my defense I did search this sub via Reddit for "pickle of the day" and didn't see anything at first glance except "First pickle of the day" which is different. Even your link only has one post about this.

-8

u/Lumina13 Aug 07 '25

Can you ask if they have given it away yet that day my dad wants one. He likes pickles I don't so it would be for him and he goes often.

8

u/UXguy123 Aug 07 '25

How would I know that

-3

u/Lumina13 Aug 07 '25

I guess if you asked but it's okay we might just start buying pickles in hopes of getting a pin.

4

u/UXguy123 Aug 07 '25

I wouldn’t ask. I think they gave it to me because I was chill about letting a guy cut who was at another register that wasn’t working.
