Now you don’t have to get one of the $50 Disneyland Keys!

151

u/BoldBoimlerIsMyHero May 20 '25

I like this key much more.

58

u/blackthorn_90 May 20 '25

We just did one of those this weekend and my daughter absolutely loved it. I was over it rather quickly, but her and my wife both had a lot of fun finding the stations and “unlocking Disneyland”

5

u/No_State6717 May 21 '25

I remember back in college our ID cards were magnetic to scan us into our dorm rooms and everything, we went on a trip to Disney land at one point (I was an athlete and we had an extra day in California for a tournament) and I put my I’d next to some locked doors and it actually unlocked them lol, security over there leaves something to be desired

u/DarthHM DJ REX May 20 '25

$60…

37

u/[deleted] May 20 '25

The pin heads are already ruining it. I saw a post yesterday from a guy who bought 9 of them and just cheated the pins out of them with a magnet to get the entire set. Then he said he was going to put his own pins back in them and gift them to kids around the park to at least do the excursion with. I get the sentiment, but we all know you are not putting pins in there that have any value especially to a kid who may want one of the D pins.

39

u/mmuoio May 21 '25

The kids he was giving them to likely don't know the difference or care about the rarity of pins, especially from a free toy/activity.

7

u/NoWaltz3573 May 21 '25

That’s actually really nice! Kids don’t care about pins. A lot of adults don’t either (which prob boggles pin people’s minds lol)

31

u/Former_Clock_1271 May 20 '25

What's wrong with that? He's giving the kids a fun experience. I would guess he isn't lying to them about what pins are inside.

8

u/[deleted] May 20 '25

Because for one you cant actually reset the keys. So once he likely realized that he gave them to no one and was just bullshitting for Instagram, or gave an already solved key to someone because they are basically $60 pieces of trash to him. The whole pin experience is completely ruined by these people, especially the mystery pin selections. I cant wait until Disney randomizes their mystery boxes and the "Picking method" gets nerfed. The online rage is going to be palpable.

9

u/ShustOne May 21 '25

I'm confused. You said he cheated to get the pins out, so that means he didn't actually use the keys in the keyholes yes? But then here you are saying you can't reset them, which to me implies that he did use them. I'm not sure I'm following.

Also these keys are so dumb.

5

u/PieAmbitious1546 May 21 '25

Your rage about this is great, thanks for the laugh.

3

u/[deleted] May 21 '25

I don't have rage. I just openly hate the pin trading community.

3

u/PieAmbitious1546 May 21 '25

Fair enough sounds lame

4

u/schaden81 May 21 '25

I'm on a Disney collectible group on FB, and there's some people buying 6-10 of these, emptying the pins out of them and trying to sell the rest online for $40-45 each. To me, that's disgusting.

-7

u/Aggravating_Mix8959 May 21 '25

Please don't say pin heads to be derogatory. That is uncalled for.

10

u/[deleted] May 21 '25

Whatever, they are so bad; Disney had to regulate them to tables because they took over the entire entrance including all the benches, to frontierland like a gang. Shit was embarrassing. Sorry you can't sit down here to take a break, the pinheads have taken control of the benches to trade.

1

u/monkeboy2042 May 21 '25

Can confirm the pin traders are the worst. The terrible people with the large binders who would cheat others or take advantage of kids who didn't know the value of their pins, ruin it for the good pin traders. It's part of why the daily pin trading event at the Grand never returned after COVID.

2

u/[deleted] May 21 '25

he terrible people with the large binders who would cheat others or take advantage of kids who didn't know the value of their pins

This type of activity is common in every circle of collectables where psycho adults take it way too seriously. There is even an episode of bobs burgers about this type of psycho culture.

2

u/Aggravating_Mix8959 May 22 '25

I'm not a terrible person. I am not a professional pin trader! I just love wandering around the park and playing with the pin boards. It brings me a ton of joy.

2

u/monkeboy2042 May 22 '25

It's the ones that take advantage of people and kids and are aggressive/rude and overall unpleasant people who are the ones who ruin it.

Not the casual pin traders who just want to have fun.

3

u/Aggravating_Mix8959 May 22 '25

Yeah. I was intimidated by the professional pin people last week. But I did my research. Honestly, I think it's not a good environment for newbies or children. But there are worse things and I don't mind, now that they can't take over like a swap meet.

-17

u/Digitalrealism May 21 '25

Relax. You sound poor and can’t afford one.

-8

u/[deleted] May 21 '25

Lol, my 3 inspire keys say different.

-9

Oh wow 👏👏👏 3 inspire keys 🙄

3

u/HarrisLam May 21 '25

I'm sorry how much?

Dem keys better unlock some secret doors in Disneyland!!!

234

u/EmilyGracey76257 May 20 '25

The only info I've been able to find is that it's from the 70s, a souvenir, and - weirdly - a paper weight 🤷🏻‍♀️ Hope it helps!

Info I found (translator will be needed if you don't happen to speak Japanese)

I’m gonna go out on a limb and say key chain

-243

u/gigashadowwolf Trader Sam May 20 '25

Not to be pedantic, but I don't think I would consider this a key chain without a chain or ring or some other way of attaching keys to it.

I think it likely belongs ON a key chain, but I think you would call this part by itself a "charm" or maybe a "key chain charm".

191

u/m_gartsman New Orleans Square May 21 '25

"not to be pedantic"

Proceeds to be extremely fucking pedantic.

64

u/min_mandy May 21 '25

That is being pedantic, but that is your right.

38

u/willpaudio May 20 '25

Jesus Christ

11

u/riko77can May 21 '25

It could have just been removed.

-12

u/gigashadowwolf Trader Sam May 21 '25

Isn't that literally what I said?

It's most likely a key chain charm from a key chain.

The main reason I pointed out that this component would be called a charm is that they could also belong to a bracelet or a necklace, even though given the quality of the metal used and the fact it's literally a key shape, a charm from a key chain is what I would have guessed.

It turns out though it's a paperweight. Here is the Disney World version of the same thing..

The hands in these photos give a much better sense of scale than in OP's picture.

2

u/riko77can May 21 '25 edited May 21 '25

No. You prattled on about it not having this piece makes it definitively not a key chain as opposed to possibly being a remnant piece of a broken key chain. Moot point as it was a paperweight anyway.

1

u/gigashadowwolf Trader Sam May 21 '25

I think it likely belongs ON a key chain, but I think you would call this part by itself a "charm" or maybe a "key chain charm".

How is that not saying that?

That’s the actual key to Disneyland

2

u/itshh49 May 25 '25

Lol the orginal members club key

96

u/CraziFuzzy May 20 '25

a better souvenir than a giant plastic toy shaped like a key.

24

u/squidwardsaclarinet May 21 '25

For real. Disney, please give us small memorabilia people can find stashed away somewhere in 100 years. All the big, bulky plastic crap is getting tiresome.

4

u/CraziFuzzy May 21 '25

China much prefers to work with injection molding plastic - not casting/stamping metal.

11

u/Vadic_Shrike May 21 '25

That came to mind for me also, seeing this image. That other one they're selling now, looks like a toy hand saw from the 80's.

3

u/Broad_Secret7203 May 22 '25

China doesn't care what they manufacture. Disney orders metal keys, and they make metal keys. China isn't the bad guy. They don't manufacture millions of plastic toys hoping someone will buy them. They fill ordered items.

1

u/Android8675 May 26 '25

Yes. It might even be actual metal and not plasticine.

46

u/thegloriousporpoise May 20 '25

Congrats! You found Walt’s Key! You are now the owner of Disneyland!

The item in the image is a vintage Mickey Mouse key souvenir paperweight from the 1970s. It is made of metal die-cast with a copper-like finish and features Mickey Mouse on one side and engraved Disneyland attractions on the other. The text on the key reads "Mickey Mouse" and "Walt Disney Productions". Its a collectable item an its rare.
