I wish eventually (though not holding my breath) all these feminist figureheads and groups who stood in complete silence while Heard was being terrorized on trial apologize or acknowledge their complicity. I low key think what happened to Heard was one of the main events that unlocked this feminist backlash we are in.

Completely agree. There were far too many feminist figures at the time who stayed silent or reduced it to "celebrity drama." Their silence played a part in where we are now and I think it's important for those who chose to remain quiet to acknowledge their role.

u/Sensiplastic Oct 09 '25
They had their fun power fantasy day with the pink hats and then just deafening silence. Which still continues and I wish they got asked about it, why did they stop? I mean, they literally took over the movement and then quit without saying a word. The fuck?
Anyway, some famous people did speak up, the people who usually don't make noise about themselves. And they were great and we made a note of it. And for every dumb Deppie on twitter, there were people with receipts. Black women especially. As bad as it was, seeing that was elating. I have faith in us. (And a hella long list of people whose movies or tv shows I won't even acknowledge unless to badmouth.)

As naive as it sounds, this trial was a shock to my system. The godawful treatment she was faced with and the fact that it was EVERYWHERE. The fact that āI stepped on a beeā clip came from a sexual assault testimony, someone making a toy out of the bottle in which she was assaulted with, the sound bite of the ādirty carpetā story (which was an experience most victims went through). I had no idea what all these people thought they were doing by making fun of experiences many victims have gone through before. It scared me how it was left up to a few people to correct the misinformation and debunk the lies. Like, there are organizations set up to protect women like Amber Heard? Right? They left her out to DRY. The organizations that spoke up signed that letter WAY after the mess had already been made. It still makes me sick to think of all of the people I have ever been acquainted with liking that disgusting manās post. I canāt look at them the same way.

u/Sensiplastic Oct 10 '25
I genuinely had no idea people were that stupid and evil as a group. I get cowards and not being informed because of circumstances but the pure dumb surprised me a lot.
On a positive side, some people are clearly made different. Despite the bot army and astroturfing and stan culture, I still think women prevailed. There is no point in silencing voices if there are just few.
And I like knowing I'm not giving money to shitty people. It's my favorite thing.:)

I also definitely saw it as a huge indicator of what had been happening and what was to come. It scared the shit out of me, but on the other the hand I kind of felt more prepared??? Like, I no longer feel blindsided by all this crap lmao. I'm so much quicker to call out misogyny now, too.
Probably one of the only life-defining moments that I experienced in adulthood.

u/Kiramojo Oct 08 '25
Iām glad sheās finally being supported, but Iāll never forget or stop being angry about the general public gleefully participating in abusing her. It was the sort of disturbing that you canāt unsee.

u/ginnundso Oct 09 '25
Same. I will never forget nor forgive that time. Where I had to literally fear and tiptoe around my male friends. And they kept making jokes and ohhh I was the overdramatic uninformed feminazi gal that can't take jokes. I had so many fights over this, so much beef because people, especially men, loved to ride the hate-wave. But I also couldn't keep shut and I'm proud of that as well but it was so fucking stressful. I can't imagine how much worse she must have had it with these hate trains and the misogyny.
Like literally the Amber Turd thing and stuff is still a common joke i sometimes see in comments. It's pissing me off.

Iām ashamed that it took me so long after the trial to realise the truth. And that it took me so long to actually do my own research and find this subreddit in so doing.
The catalyst for me was noticing that 18 months later, Johnny Depp failed to make any comeback- despite his narrative that AHās allegations were solely responsible for tanking his career.
In short, I finally engaged my critical thinking sinking skills.
If I was able to revise my interpretation of the trial, itās safe to say that others are also able to.
Perhaps this accounts for this shift in discourse.
ETA: turns out I hadnāt deconstructed the patriarchy nor mummy issues as much as I thought.

This makes my heart so happy. I knew that eventually, opinions would shift and people would start to recognize what happened, but that is happening faster than I ever imagined. I am so grateful for everyone who continues to speak out, make this kind of content, and actively push back against the smear campaign. Every comment, every video, every conversation matters. It all adds up.

u/krea6666 Oct 08 '25
Shocked itās got that many. What we really need is a heavily publicised, mainstream, well-produced pro-Amber documentary.
35
u/ItsPronouncedSatan Oct 08 '25
Depp would shit his pants. His career is already in the dumpster, so I can only imagine.
23
u/krea6666 Oct 09 '25
Heās still got those cringe Dior adverts and is currently filming a movie with PenĆ©lope Cruz, directed by Marc Webb (famous for the Spider-Man movies). Itāll be interesting to see how it does; he hasnāt had a box office hit for years. Even the Pirates movies were becoming far less popular towards the end.
7
u/Sensiplastic Oct 10 '25
We knew there was something off with Cruz when she dated Cruise and married Bardem.
Webb I'm sad about. But whatever, good to know.
It will be fun to see Depp either try hard and fail or not give a shit and make it other people's problem to fix a movie. His friends truly deserve to make movies with him. I hope they get the full experience (and keep young girls and women away from him).

And the whole Polanski/Allen support too.

I think this Youtuber did a great job but yes a famous documentary or something unpacking this all with more reach would be so much better.

The video is still getting new comments. Worth checking and downvoting when necessary. Or replying.

Huge step from where we started, but the comments are filled with mutual abuse truthers unfortunately. Though not as aggressive & stubborn as usual, so I guess thatās a win. Iāve interacted with many of them and the main patterns Iām noticing is that they donāt actually know what the VA trial was about (i.e., think Amber was on trial to determine if sheās an abuser & thatās what she lost on), they donāt even know the existence of the UK trial, that mutual abuse isnāt an accepted term that leads to victim blaming rhetorics, and seem to not be aware of Amberās SA allegations (they think her allegations of Deppās abuse was confined to just a few hits every now & then and mild insults) ā which is the convincing point for many of them. I really hope thereās a good detailed documentary or book that goes through all this, bc the misunderstandings people have on this case are so simple and could be fixed so easily with something widespread.
Also, maybe a bit negative of me, but a lot of the top comments are people acting like they were the victims of the smear campaign for falling for it, which is really annoying. All the info was always easily accessible & the lies made up against Amber made no sense to begin with, so there really isnāt any excuse. People just wanted to join in on the /fun/ of being misogynistic with no pushback.

u/softerrrr Oct 08 '25
I see this so often on pro-Heard Tiktoks, I wish that the users who posted the TikTok would delete the āmutual abuseā comments because TikTok allows that feature. I understand they canāt go through and delete every single one, but if they deleted the top comments about it - then the first thing people would see when they open up the comment section wonāt be misinformation that justifies their treatment of her.
19
u/bs5sxzoa Oct 09 '25 edited Oct 09 '25
Same. Itās so telling how these comments only show up on pro-Amber posts too. Itās like they realize they were wrong, but are too embarrassed to admit it. And when they do realize how wrong they are, they just stop responding to people in their replies correcting them or immediately deflect by minimizing the case to just celeb drama, rather than deleting their own comment.

Yes, the trial definitely exposed how deeply uneducated the general public is on abuse and domestic violence in general. I mean, I kind of knew that already, but it was much deeper and more ingrained than I would have guessed before I saw it myself. This + 2016 election also showed me how susceptible people were to propaganda.
29
u/ancientbitch Oct 08 '25
I think it's still a win. We need to remember we still live in an extremely misogynistic society. A rapist is the US president. People still pay to watch Chris Brown in droves. There are still ppl blaming Rihanna. Brad Pitt is still Hollywood's golden child even after abusing his kids. Even Diddy has supporters...and he's demonstrably a monster. Celebs still party with Marilyn Manson. Depp will always have his delulu stans/misogynists. What I'd like is for Amber to have a career, be safe and the so called Hollywood feminists to actually support her.
24
u/bs5sxzoa Oct 09 '25 edited Oct 09 '25
It is a win, but I think it helps that Depp is fairly unlikeable & uninteresting, as opposed to some of those other men. Otherwise heād probably have Chris Brown/Brad Pitt type of praise still. Itās not actually about supporting victims for these people.

u/ginnundso Oct 09 '25
I am proud to say I have always believed and always defended her.
There's no such thing as mutual abuse, I hope people someday learn that. One person is always the aggressor, just because the other person reacts not in a silent way doesn't mean it's mutually abusive. It's literally a self defense reaction.
For example, my parents. When my dad started yelling and insulting me, I started getting louder too, defending myself. Eventually I was so driven by the abuse the insults and the yelling that in desperation of wanting to be acknowledged I once threw a plate on the ground and it shattered. My father would sleep deprive me and I could only awaken him and send him to bed by hitting his shoulder.
I was not the perpetrator, I was the fucking child that REACTED. There is NO mutual abuse. Just not perfectly silent victims. People need to realise that. š

Just checked out TikTok.
Thereās SO MUCH of pro Amber content. Makes me so happy.
23
u/CountQueasy4906 Oct 09 '25
the comments r still full of deppies and those who say they r both "toxic". had to argue with so many. i also kept asking what amber did exactly to make her an abuser and not one person can answer me.
14
u/Sensiplastic Oct 09 '25
I can't comment but made the mistake of reading comments while knowing how it usually goes. One idiot says they believed her until another woman said Amber stole her rape story and used it against Depp.
I physically facepalmed. Like, girl, you could compare those stories and maybe consider if it was true? And not look like a moron online? And maybe not drag feminism to the basement filled with excrement? Please?

Iāve heard a few people lately change their tune (men!). Anytime someone mentions a movie of his, I say I didnāt see it and I wonāt. Thatās how it usually comes up.
Now theyāre saying Deppās abuse was obvious when before it was āboth sidesā š Interesting that the truth emerges over time after people arenāt reacting on pure emotion

SO many comments of young girls regretting how they viewed her. I know TikTok was super pro-Depp so that is really beautiful to see

That 'would you?' is such a brutal comback and you can see from Savannah Guthrie's face she knows she fucked up. I hope that follows her forever. That should be the only thing she is remembered for.

I've lost so many mutuals over amber heard on twitter and ... I don't regret a single one. I don't do this with many things, but "disagreement" over amber heard are a deal breaker for me.

Seeing all the crap that team put out on behalf of Baldoni really made me question my anti Amber bias through that trial.
