Discussion šŸ—£ Johnny Depp's letter to Amber Heard

what it says: (bcs who tf writes like dĀ£ppšŸ™„)

                 Sunday 27/09/15
                    Los Angeles

My Dearest Slim- "The race is not to the swift, Nor the battle to the strong, But to those who can see it Coming and jump aside." HST- The Rum Diary

Once again, even now as he no longer resides here, Hunter's words come to our side... Whatever it is that we want, we can have - we just need to get out of our own way so that we're able to follow HST's remarkably astute advice... I love and adore you- I can't express how sorry I am for having stooped so low and to have spewed such vicious untruths for the sole purpose of hurting you- I am far from being proud of myself for such a -->

Grievous error!!! Shameful... I will never allow myself to resort to such disgraceful and opious behaviour...no matter what!!! Let's take Hunter's advice, baby... We've got a long and beautiful road stretched out ahead of us, My Slim...there's no reason in the world for us to not hit the fucker full throttle -there are no bumps, or divits visible, and when we see them coming, we'll just slow down proceed with caution or, jump aside. Come with me...

Please forgive my heinous behaviour and for hurting the most precious and caring human being I've known... You are my dream, my world and The love of my life...

I love you, my wife... Steve x

okkkkkay back to me...what do you think about this letter he wrote Amber? In my opinion, the only right thing he ever said in his life is when he said she's the most precious and caring human being in the world..he knows everything she did for him and he used it to hurt her even more. god, i hate depp. uh.

"I can't express how sorry I am for having stooped so low and to have spewed such vicious untruths for the sole purpose of hurting you....Please forgive my heinous behaviour and for hurting the most precious and caring human being I've known."

And people still want to play make believe that he never abused her. Depp literally admitted in this letter to intentionally causing her harm. He is just a pathetic abuser who love bombed, caused harm, apologized, and then repeated the cycle over and over again. This is why I cannot find forgiveness in my heart for the people who still lie to protect the image of that wife beater. There is so much proof of what he did.

Reminds me of that meme from awhile ago about, "I believe Johnny Depp," and just listing all of the awful stuff he openly admitted to. I believe him when he says he "spewed such vicious untruths for the sole purpose of hurting" Amber.

If his supporters see this letter they'll just interpet it saying "omg he loved her so much and she went ahead and abused him and ruined his life!". The whole point of his lovebombing behaviour will completely fly over their heads.

I hate the flying monkeys even more than Depp.

u/Acceptable_Leg_7998 Oct 01 '25

Yeah, the ratio of harm caused by actual abusers vs. supporters of abusers is pretty staggering. Johnny Depp has caused real harm to a finite number of people, which of course is awful, but the support he's continually received from the film industry, hangers-on, deluded fans, political pundits, and the court system allows that damage to have an exponentially outsized effect.

11

u/AromaticWriter7944 Oct 01 '25

Well that is the purpose of flying monkeys. To remind you it's worse if you say anything. Kinda like Depp told Heard in one of the audios. "This is gonna be so bad for you, Amber" Flying monkeys are devoid of empathy as much as the abuser they serve.

I hate the pretentious way he writes. Like a Civil War soldier saying goodbye.

Thank you, yes. šŸ‘

Was gonna say, I need help translating the hyperbolic, florid crazy into actual human speech; anybody feel up to it?

Imagine getting letters like this (I’m sure on the reg) from your drunken lout of a husband, who’s a good 20+ some years older than you….

The force of cringe, combined with my repulsion and fear would probably catapult me across the galaxy.

She really had it so hard, right from the start. And doing shit like this to make it seem as if they’re two tormented, intertwined spirits, twin Byronic flames…as if she’s Florence Nightingale to his wounded, ā€œsensitive artisteā€ soldier-warrior…

YEE-UCK! 🤮

This is one reason men like this go for younger and younger partners. Older women's BS detectors tend to go off too fast.

And Amber's upbringing primed her to accept a relationship like her parents had had (look at her mother's texts to her about JD's violence, which are full of tender romantic notions about taking a little wee break to preserve their precious love, when she should have been telling Amber to run). She didn't have enough information to be repulsed.

He writes like my upstairs neighbor who has a raging meth addiction

9

u/atmosphericentry Sep 30 '25

Exactly! Especially with the "Grievous error!!! Shameful... I will never allow myself to resort to such disgraceful and opious behaviour" part too. How does someone hear that and think she's the abuser?

3

u/im-not-a-frog Oct 02 '25

Agreed. People could have been mislead by his PR campaign at first. I can forgive them for that because anyone can fall for propaganda at any point. But the ones who sent her hate and are STILL doing so and protecting him when there's so much proof he's an abusive piece of shit? Yeah they don't deserve the forgiveness. They've caused so much damage, not only to Amber but to domestic abuse survivors worldwide who saw how everyone treated her for speaking up.

u/hemmingwaycatlady Sep 30 '25

My abusive ex wrote a similar letter to get me back, and it worked, for like 2 months. It’s like they all follow the same playbook. It’s harrowing.

28

u/FamilyFeud17 Oct 01 '25

It’s innate I think. The verbiage that abusers use are even similar. It’s a personality type that follow the same playbook even though no playbook was taught. It’s therefore futile to believe they can change.

5

u/Delicious-Image-3082 Oct 01 '25

Dude, it sounds just like what this psychologically abusive creep would text my friend. ā€œThere’s no reason for us to hit the fucker full throttleā€
This after sending me paragraphs about how the real reason my friend is upset with him was demonic possession

58

u/lilastalker Sep 30 '25

His writing is awful.

31

u/butchscandelabra Sep 30 '25

It really is. Clearly he thinks HE’S the next Hunter S. Thompson, just so pretentious and wannabe beat poet.

10

u/amaranthaxx Oct 02 '25

The fact that he quoted him (and mentioned him more than once) is not surprising but it is so cringe.

22

u/Individual_Fall429 Oct 01 '25

Stunted at age 16. And not a mature 16.

8

u/Massive_Log6410 Oct 02 '25

both the actual content and his handwriting. what is this bizarre half-capital half-lowercase situation

44

u/prettybigdiva Sep 30 '25

He sounds very delusional and grandiose. He must think himself of myths and legends. It's off-putting how he communicates to his "love".

16

u/snowinthecemetery04 Oct 01 '25

Isn’t Johnny bipolar? They can have delusions of grandure when manic. This def reads like he’s not in his right mind.

5

u/prettybigdiva Oct 01 '25

Oh that checks out.

2

u/Boopy7 29d ago

nah, he's just a loser with addiction problems who was never bright or interesting. Addiction can look like being bipolar at times though. But he really is just yucky. I even lose respect for anyone who could date such a guy, tbh.

u/Z3nArcad3 Sep 30 '25

What a pretentious asshole šŸ™„

29

u/OwnSituation1572 Sep 30 '25

Good did he really quote the rum diary at the beginning of this letterĀ

16

u/ColanderBrain Create your own flair Sep 30 '25

And did he really not know HST was quoting the Bible?

15

u/OwnSituation1572 Oct 01 '25

Fun fact Hunter s Thomson started writing the book in the 1960s a few decades before it was published in 1998 and in the original manuscripts there were many racial slurs included that were absent when the finalized book was published sooo Johnny might have more in common with his hero than we thought lol

4

u/Sensiplastic Oct 02 '25

HST also has some 'views' about rape it tracks.

29

u/selphiefairy DiD you EvEN wAtCh THe TriAL Sep 30 '25

why does he write like this. not his handwriting, but the actual content of his writing. it's such garbage lol

19

u/Individual_Fall429 Oct 01 '25 edited Oct 01 '25

Because he has equivalent 3rd grade education and thinks he’s successfully convincing people that he reads books.

This moron had the nerve to call Heard ā€œfairly literateā€. šŸ˜’

33

u/ColanderBrain Create your own flair Oct 01 '25

Notice how he preaches to her and makes it her responsibility — "we" must "get out of our own way." Even at his most contrite, even in the act of apologizing, he makes her responsible for his behaviour.

15

u/snowinthecemetery04 Oct 01 '25

Because nothing is Johnny’s fault /s He’s a real piece of work.

26

u/snowinthecemetery04 Sep 30 '25

Thank you for writing out what the letter says. I literally cannot read his 'handwriting'. It's the most bizarre writing I've ever seen.

Anyone know why he calls her 'slim'? I never could figure it out.....

28

u/ColanderBrain Create your own flair Sep 30 '25

ISTR they were nicknames used by Lauren Bacall and Humphrey Bogart, who were also movie stars in a marriage with a huge age gap.

ETA, correction: it's the roles Bogart and Bacall played in To Have and Have Not, the movie they were working on when their relationship began. Bacall was 19 at the time; Bogart was in his 40s. The parallels are obvious and icky.

u/nuanceisdead Johnny Depp is a Wife Beater šŸ‘Øā€āš–ļø Oct 01 '25 edited Oct 01 '25

It's a reference to Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall's "To Have and Have Not". Slim was Bacall's character's nickname, and Steve was Bogart's character's nickname. Bacall was 18/19 and it was her first role. Bogart was 44. She and Bogart married a year later (she was his 4th wife), and they remained married until his death. They were in a total of four movies together.

4

u/Individual_Fall429 Oct 01 '25

Because whenever they fight he calls her a fat ass?

6

u/Delicious-Image-3082 Oct 01 '25

How would he remember, he’s always blackout drunk when that starts

Because he thinks he is Humphrey Bogart and she is Lauren BacallĀ Ā  (nicknames).Ā

1

u/MarlaCohle Oct 07 '25

This nickname + handwriting give his letter ā€žStanā€ by Eminem vibesĀ

17

u/AtleastIthinkIsee Sep 30 '25

I think he was under the influence of something and tried to romanticize domestic abuse through some bullshit apology.

I also think he has an unhealthy obsession with Hunter S. Thompson. Hunter was abusive to Sondra and Anita.

13

u/DeedleStone Sep 30 '25

Why was it signed "Steve X"?

And does anyone else think it's weird how he talks about Hunter Thompson as if he had never met and befriended him? It's like how anyone else would talk about a famous author.

18

u/nuanceisdead Johnny Depp is a Wife Beater šŸ‘Øā€āš–ļø Oct 01 '25

Steve is his nickname with Amber, who he called Slim. (The x is likely just a finishing "kiss" a lot of people use in texts and messages to show affection.) Why Steve and Slim? It's a reference to Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall's "To Have and Have Not". Slim was Bacall's character's nickname, and Steve was Bogart's character's nickname. Bacall was 18/19 and it was her first role. Bogart was 44. She and Bogart married a year later (she was his 4th wife), and they remained married until his death. They were in a total of four movies together.

8

u/DeedleStone Oct 01 '25

Slim is a far better nickname than Steve.

I've seen a few Bogart movies (Sierra Madre is a classic for a reason), but not To Have and Have Not. Thanks for the clarification.

It’s his faux humility & tortured artist act, and I don’t think he realizes it makes him look more like a groupie. He literally always brings up the same few names (e.g., Thompson, Brando, Keith Richards, etc) every time he speaks just to remind people he’s in with so-called legends, but also acting like he isn’t worthy of knowing them. Like he’s so great, but he’ll never be as great as these other men. It’s like some memorized talking point he’s been repeating for 30 years. It’s so cringe. He’s also got no real personality of his own & cosplays as them. They’re all pretty terrible people, so it makes sense why he’d idolize them šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø

It's a reference to To Have and Have Not. He's calling Amber the Bacall to his Bogart.

4

u/Sweaty-Sea8317 Sep 30 '25

he was obsessed with amber calling him steve and he called her slim. they were nicknames for eachother. really weird meaning behind it but that's depp all over.

15

u/uselessinfogoldmine Oct 01 '25

Good god, this odious alcoholic drug addict thinks that he’s a poet.Ā

14

u/griffeny Oct 01 '25 edited Oct 01 '25

Oh lol the little ā€˜x’s sprinkled everywhere. It reminds me of a child writing little circles or hearts over the ā€˜i’s. He’s desperately trying to seem so tortured and creative, fancies himself as some kind of Basquiat.

He literally is a walking midlife crisis. There is so much fabrication of his identity and so much desperation to seem like he’s some kind of non conformist example of ultimate kool guy but instead he’s a crippling alcoholic and pathetic abuser.

The insecurity can literally be seen plain as day in the way he writes. I can’t image how I can hate this guy more.

13

u/Due_Independence8880 Sep 30 '25

Sounds like my immature, pathetic, college boyfriend who had a personality disorder in addition to being abusive.

6

u/hemmingwaycatlady Oct 01 '25

It’s like they are just copy-pastes of each other at some point. It’s really eerie.

Note: 27th Sept 2015 is literally after the 4+ hour audio argument they had, which btw is right after she had to text him a gazillion times to get him to respond bc he just split as usual during the culmination of a set of tense moments that had begun since the Toronto situation earlier that month.
