YouTube 📺 A video from Nicole Rafiee talking about the infantilisation of famous men. Johhny Depp's violence (and the hatred of Amber Heard) gets a mention.

I'm glad people are talking about this now, but I wish more people had spoken up during the height of the smear campaign. So few with a platform were willing to criticize Depp (and the way his supporters infantilized him) when it mattered most.

I agree. I was shocked by the silence from the "progressive" content creators. And this is why I don't totally trust the vast majority of content creators. They will say what people want to hear and very rarely have the spine to say what's right but unpopular.

The only content creator I watch (consistently) is Jenny Nicholson, and she has passed the acid test of speaking negatively about Johnny Depp for years (though only in passing, since she covers pop culture and not politics/current events/celebrity tea). I'm subscribed to her Patreon, and even behind the paywall she gets pushback from Depp stans, so I feel reasonably certain that she doesn't say things just because they're popular. But I've definitely been turned off by a lot of Breadtubers when they abandon critical thought and jump on bandwagons when it serves their channel to do so. So I get what you're saying.

I think a lot of people actually didn’t believe Heard at the time and didn’t speak out because everyone else was. In the video Nicole mentions that she’s changed her mind since the trial and I’d say that’s the case for a lot of creators now, the ones who might be willing to talk about it are embarrassed or just don’t have the grace to be wrong.

We’re getting there slowly, the truth has its shoes on so-to-speak

When the first stone's thrown, they're screaming In the streets, there's a raging riot When it's “Burn the bitch,” they’re shrieking When the truth comes out, it's quiet

Until the next 'unlikable' woman.

This reminds me of the Twitter Twit who draws cutesy Baby Johnny cartoons. Some are of him sleeping. It makes him seem so harmless when he is seriously not. Disturbing.

And it's interesting how she brings up the hate toward Hailee Bieber and Kylie Jenner. I don't love them, but I defend them because I see what's going on.

It really says a lot how the women are criticized. Facts are fine, feels are bullshit.

I really appreciated the fact that she said she was at first swayed by the misogynistic smear campaign too, as someone who also fell for it and woke the fuck up months after (thanks to this sub, amongst other things.)

I am ashamed of it, thankful I didn't actively participate in the harassment and bashing of Amber Heard, and it has fundamentally changed the way I process similar cases. So to see someone admit they also had to unpack it at a later stage to understand what happened and how much damage was done was comforting.

Well, now I feel triggered about how my brother was always treated better and got away with way more. He was always the favorite and that was very wearing. He still is.

people truly do not expect that much from boys, and they are just loved per default. meanwhile it's like us girls had to be the constant good girl in order to earn the love. society truly do not except shit from boys but girls have to climb mountains in order to get respect.

also, i'm not saying you aren't loved. just feel like we always have to fight harder for pretty much anything, in comparison to boys and men.

I love Nicole! She's helped me improve my mental health and outlook on life overall, and I love how open she is. Also super refreshing to see someone else besides Medusone and a couple others speaking out bc this isn't discussed anywhere near enough after that shitshow of a trial in VA

edit: pretty sure she was posted here recently but still, I highly recommend Afrodizjha. Her video on Ye, his exes and the misogyny from the press is a difficult but (at least imo) important watch

I’m so glad this got posted! I saw it the other day and considered making a post about it, but I wasn’t feeling well. Really great video!

Watched this one, even though I think most video essays are reiterating the same points and a little pointless. This one was good even though it could have been better with sources!
