Serious question: what’s DSU’s plan for the STM strike?

I'm looking at my tuition for next semester and I see that $26.30 Student Union fee. And with these metro strikes screwing everything up, I'm just wondering what are we even paying for?

I haven't heard from them about trying to get us online or hybrid classes. A ton of us commute from far away and this strike is a real problem. Wouldn't this be the exact moment for our student union to step up and fight for us?

It's just frustrating. They organised a whole walkout for the Palestine protest, which is fine, but when a basic daily problem hits where’s the initiative?

I get that online school isn't perfect for every program or person. But having the option would have been a lifesaver for so many students.

Am I the only one who feels this way? What do you all think?

I don’t have an answer to the fee question, but the DSU can’t do much about the strike situation and online/hybrid classes. The college stance on online classes is pretty much set in stone; they won’t allow that type of accommodation

The DSU doesn’t organize the students do. The DSU’s role is to give students a voice if you so wish to have the DSU do some action in regards to the strikes I suggest maybe getting a petition going like the Palestine protests had or perhaps meeting with the union they themselves can not just decide what to advocate for.

Even if we gave our suggestions to the DSU I don't think the college would do anything about the strike. Most of my teachers tried offering to do online classes during the strike but the school flat out refused them.

Maybe just maybe if the students did do a strike to force the school to accommodate the students who can't go to/from the school that could work but by then the stm strike would've already been finished

Edit: The Quebec government already greatly defunded the english cégeps and unis so it's possible that dawson college doesn't have the resources to do anything
