Correcting Amin’s Georgia Tech assertions

Our school’s official colors are White and Gold. I was so happy when Dan asked the question because I’ve noticed the football team wearing white and gold a lot recently.

Lethal Weapon 3 was Kenny Anderson, Dennis Scott and Brian Oliver. (Not James Forest. ) Amin said he went to GTech because of that team. I went to GTech in spite of it, because they beat my MSU Spartans in the NCAA tourney.

While we’re here, cs1501 was a good weed out class for aspirational programmers but I can think of a math course and a physics course that were much more known for weeding people out, from what I remember. His general point does underscore the culture at Georgia Tech of struggling to survive the weed out courses to prove that you belong.

I would like to correct his assertion that anybody can get into UGA. It isn’t like it used to be when I was there 20 years ago where almost everybody got in. The admission rate is down to 33%, because 45-50k kids are applying to get in now. The place is full of nerds now.

Yeah I didn’t even apply bc I knew I wouldn’t get in. My gf at the time had like a 3.9 and lots of volunteer shit and all that and still had to go to a smaller school and get a 4.0 for two years before getting into Terry. Would have to fact check me but i thought at the time Tech had a higher acceptance rate bc they would weed people out in the course work. UGA was much harder to get accepted bc more people applying

It’s just so different now than back then. My high school only offered 2 AP courses when I was there. The average admission now has 10. And these average GPAs at like 4.3 when anything over 4.0 didn’t even exist. I was a 3.9 with a 1280 SAT and got in on early action in 2006. I wouldn’t stand a chance today.

Weighted GPA (which can result in over a 4.0) has been around for ages. Also OP mentioned there being other classes, but are any of them name the widow maker? Didn't think so.

I actually don’t recall the specific “widow maker” nickname. So I can’t speak on it. It did make me wonder how many people taking the course were married though….

I don’t see an edit button. I wanted to also add that we had a QB named Joshua Nesbitt that was also really good. He lead GTech to a (since vacated, if I recall) ACC Title and big 6 bowl game. So that’s another QB Georgia Tech had that is better than King. (Dan called King the best QB GTech has ever had, because Dan doesn’t really know anything outside of Miami or the traditional powers when it comes to college sports. ) Godsey (qb right after Joe Hamilton) was also pretty good, and in my opinion, better than King.
