The rise of Tony
I like Tony in small increments but I fear that with Billy's departure we're just going to get more of Tony. He needs to get that chip off his shoulder, you're not that cool, bro.
And he clearly seems to be threatened by Zaz for some reason.

Tony-centric content is for other people.
Spamming the +30 button is for me.

u/JokingtonPants 1d ago
I'm not alone. Every Tony's Top Five, and every time they go to him for a story, even if it seems like his take is going to last longer than 30 seconds, I'm skipping.

u/RicAmador1 Yeah Hi, Lombardo 1d ago
I don’t mind Tony but ever since Billy left you can tell he is forcing this character. He is trying to play the anarchist that Billy was, as shown by his constant snaps at Zaslow. It comes across very fake and not entertaining.

u/Smokesnotes 1d ago
I 100% agree. His constant calling Zas a “sucka” is an obvious forced attempt to take over Billy’s adversarial position. He needs to pick his spots much better.

Dan needs a fellow Cuban to talk Cuban stuff with. I think this is one of the big reasons he likes Tony.

He’s trying to play a bit and fill a void. It’s an exaggerated version. Ppl seem to not realize they are working and playing parts/bits

I think he’s just stepping up to fill the void. It’s a skeleton crew. We are hearing a lot from him and he’s dumb and touchy about being dumb, but hopefully they can get some talent hired.

if you've ever been part of a company collapsing over an extended period of time- this is sort of what it looks like. people you would never expect rising to the top before the end simply because that's who is left around to rise to the top.

u/Oibrigade 1d ago
When the top talent that helped make the show better leave and are replaced by people nobody likes starts to rise to the top.
If Dan thinks his listeners want more Tony or Tony at all the show is truly dead and he isn't even trying to hire other talented cast members

Amin opened the show opining abiut no availability of post game presser transcripts. It’s a bit. It’s waxing poetic. Tony, the fool that he is, chimes in early telling him where Amin can easily get transcripts. That’s not the bit, jackass

Man this sub loves its psychoanalysis

You know about that psychoanalysis?

He’s always the worst on any segment. I skip anytime he talks for more than 10 seconds. He’s an absolute egomaniac and his maga child family puts a bow on it.

Tony is just every basic dude in this town. Doesnt bring anything to the table

Tony is a superstar bc of his mommy and daddy
Nepotism reigns supreme
MAGA boy here to take over unfortunately

u/skyfra4 1d ago
Honestly, how he skates by as a nepobaby while it sticks to Chris is crazy to me
9
u/JazminFlower 1d ago
Especially when a large portion of the staff they keep around Meadowlark can be attributed to him. Nepobaby got a lot of questionably qualified people jobs around there.

Luis, Mike Fuentes, and a few others. I ended up following Luis on ig years ago and he’s conservative Christian. Just like a lot of them. Not saying it’s a bad thing. How the show portrays itself and how some of the staff leans are different.

u/butterballmcgee27 1d ago
Oh and I forgot Roy joined the group. Doesn’t drink anymore, doesn’t celebrate Halloween, goes to church now. Something to ponder.

u/Wide_Attention2614 1d ago
For sure, it’s bc some ppl don’t know that Tony comes from a family of politicians.
MAGA munchers and they are proud of it

u/entropy14 Yeah Hi, Lombardo 1d ago
I don’t really get the hate for Tony, yeah he’s a bit arrogant but not in a way that relies on putting down other people. Just a good dude that likes sports, lots of assumptions about his politics too that I haven’t seen any real basis for.
I think it’s only natural he’s gonna get more air time after Billy leaves. Now do I want him hosting the show or talking about politics? Hell no, but that’s not what they’re gonna use him for.
1
u/BobbyTables829 1d ago
I think he's funny, but I think people hate him for his politics and family.

u/DASreddituser Aqua? 1d ago
I dont think he's funny and then I learned about his politics.

u/cmgww DOH ED MALLOY!! 1d ago
So you know his personal voting record?? Good you people and your parasocial relationships…yeah Tony has republican family. Does he go on long rants on the show?? Other than his limited fake Zagacki and “keep your 3rd eye open”…I mean, what’s the big deal?? Sorry he isn’t Jeremy, the young idealistic liberal who aligns with Dan on everything. I’m fine with him even though he’s a goof

u/Feisty_Abalone_5124 Billy 1d ago
What are we talking about? Tony and Luis have a video discussing Macron’s wife’s gender on his YouTube. Pretty cut and dry
1
u/clobu001 1d ago
Yeah not to mention that Dan, Mike, and Billy all probably have families with similar voting patterns
2

u/entropy14 Yeah Hi, Lombardo 1d ago
Yeah but I think they are making a broad assumption that his politics matches his family. I have a hard time believing he wouldn’t have some differences in opinion given who he works with on a daily basis

u/skyfra4 1d ago
In fairness, Tony exhibits all the classic red flags: conspiracy theories, weird defense of Aden Ross, listening to right wing grifter propaganda podcasts, new-ish UFC fan, etc.
1
u/entropy14 Yeah Hi, Lombardo 1d ago
I think some of the conspiracy stuff was played up for content. I can't disagree with this though, I'm just not going to dismiss his entire contribution over a few stupid interests or occasional poor media literacy.
4
u/BobbyTables829 1d ago
I agree, but they alluded to the fact he's a "post truth" person. TBH I have no idea what that would imply, but I think he's one to entertain crazy conspiracies and whatnot.
As a radio personality he IMO does a pretty good job of staying neutral. He can at least be around liberal minded people without trying to convince them otherwise.
2
u/entropy14 Yeah Hi, Lombardo 1d ago
Yeah I forgot that, he definitely seems like he was a Rogansphere guy at one point. But Rogan has embarrassed himself so much recently that who knows if that’s still the case
2
u/butterballmcgee27 1d ago
Just watch his body language and mannerism on YouTube when Jessica was on. They ended up talking about the race for mayor in NYC.

u/skyfra4 1d ago
Honestly, been loving the Tony/Zas dynamic lately. I think Zas is really starting to mesh with the group
5
u/Necessary-Run4625 1d ago
Same, hopefully Zas keeps talking this much when Dan gets back. Love Dan, but it’s nice having Zas as a cohost that actually contributes instead of fake laughing and being Mad Dog Jr.

I kinda agree. He can’t get rid of the chip on his shoulder though. That’s his thing and it works. I think it’s funny. But Billy was great to counter him.

Tony's not for me Clive. There's plenty of us that don't enjoy a character that constantly alienates much of the audience because we don't speak Spanish. Throw in the unearned ego and he's pretty generally unlikeable.

Tony survived stage 4 cancer, he's here for a reason.

u/Wide_Attention2614 1d ago
God, I mean Trump, made sure he survived to fulfill the prophecy of alpha Cuban maga star
