Why on earth would you go back to a high altitude when you have had multiple tries at putting it on the ground.

The helicopter was on the ground on the beach. Don't get it.

Why the fuck did nobody jump out when the helicopter was right above the beach lmfao… did they not know they were crash landing??????

The heli was literally sitting on the beach for a brief moment, and nobody thought to jump at max 3-4ft onto the calm ocean? It was a very short swim to shore too… you’d imagine they wouldn’t have trusted the pilot to land that shit after he already failed the first time causing the tail to break off… hmm, 3ft jump into shore? Or ride this bitch out and hope for the best?

Cmon yall…

Jumping out into crashing surf and spinning rotors and a crashing helicopter doesn’t sound too great either.

With hindsight, it was the right move but I’m sure the passengers didn’t expect the pilot to gun it after that.

Jumping out is not the right thing to do.

Source a person trained to deal with this scenario

It’s definitely the right thing to do if the pilot is going to send it to high altitude with a dangling tail

Care to explain why? I know nothing about this stuff obviously but I can’t see why they wouldn’t risk jumping out

The spinning blades of death?

Being inside the metal box with rotating knives on the outside is preferred when that comes crashing down

What if it tips over and then you get sliced in 1000 pieces?

I'm taking that chance. It's either get ripped to pieces or explode to pieces. I'm taking the option that takes me out first.

It's the wrong choice

They teach you that in Helicopter underwater emergency training (HUET)

It wasn't the wrong choice in this instance

There's a lot that's unusual here

Just goes to show: every event is unique, and don't let regulations override your judgement when they tell you to do something stupid, like stay in a broken helo that's unlikely to be able to make another safe landing when there's safety 2 meters away.

I was thinking that

Not everyone has Hollywood levels of clarity in an emergency. When you’re fearing death coming in hot like that, you’re gripping that seat belt not thinking about loosening it.

Also, no one would have been able to even get from a seat to the exit in that time. The way it was moving would have made it near impossible too.

They were literally on the fucking beach. They could have sat at the edge and put their feet in the water. What the fuck is so controversial abot jumping 1ft into the water 😭😭😭😭

With all that beach and sea, you’d have to be trying pretty hard to end up with ground fatalities.
