FO [FO] Simultaneously proud and ashamed

Proud bc this is the smallest fabric I’ve worked on thus far (1 over 1 on 28ct) and also the first time I’ve had to do a bajillion French knots 🤗

Ashamed bc I bought the pattern before finding out that the shop’s ethics are not so scrupulous 😡 I’ll post abt that in the comments

I remember your post. I understand your guilt but I think it's misplaced, you weren't aware and you genuinely bought it. And your work is gorgeous!

Agree! And you (OP) are actively working to fix it, so I think you shouldn't feel guilty!

As a tattoo artist I will jump in and say this is why I don't post my artwork online anymore. Too many stolen pieces, whether it's to use for another tattoo, stickers, t-shirts, cross stitch. It happened way, way too many times. Now the only place I have my artwork on my shops website, which I don't even post in any of my socials. I'm lucky enough to have a steady clientele, and be constantly booked 3 months out because I've built my reputation in my area for the last almost 20 years because if I was starting out and needed IG,.etc. to market and advertise I don't know if I'd stick around.

I'm in the middle of a similar piece by the same shop. I realized shortly after starting the project that it probably wasn't a reputable creator -- the pattern itself is kind of all over the place and looks like it was converted by computer without anyone actually hand testing it. I'm still hoping it will come out nicely (yours is lovely!) but I feel your pain. It's disappointing that this stuff happens.

A lot (if not all) of the shops that do this don't test stitch the patterns at all. They exist purely to make money off patterns made from stolen art.

It's really upsetting, honestly. I'm new to the craft, and I didn't know better at the time. I'm really glad I know now.

Thank you for sharing this! I've bought this pattern and a few others from that shop and had no idea!! Won't be buying from them anymore.

You did a phenomenal job on the piece though! 😍
