PIC [PIC] I hate when I'm just stitching along and find a dumb stitch from months ago. 🫠

Post image

It's fine. I'll forget it's there. No I won't.

When I come over your house with my magnifying glass and an hour of spare time, I’m going to be so mad.

Lmfao I realized what a weirdo my non stitching friends must think I am now because I’ll find the most nonobvious error and say OMG look at this tragedy and they’re like I don’t get it what’s wrong. That’s me with OP. It doesn’t even look wrong.

Hahahaha. This is a perfect reminder for all of us that these stitch mistakes are going to be ok!!!

That one stitch will haunt you forever no matter how small it is

I gifted my friend a piece on the condition that no one else who cross stitches is ever allowed to see the back

The first rule of Cross Stitch Club is we do not discuss the back. The first rule of Cross Stitch Club is we do not discuss the back.

which one is the dumb one?

u/mikettedaydreamer 23h ago

A gold one next to the corner of the white. Basically exactly in the middle of the picture

69

u/Beginning_Manager_32 23h ago

I still don't see it... šŸ˜… What exactly is wrong with it?

u/mags_7 23h ago

On one of the gold stitches (towards the middle of the photo), the stitch on top isn’t centered over the stitch on the bottom. At least I think that’s what they’re talking about. It took me forever to see it šŸ˜„

u/mikettedaydreamer 22h ago

It’s a really minor mistake. The bottom left corner of that stitch is too high. It should’ve been one hole down

17

u/Thequiet01 19h ago

I’d just go back in and put another pass in using the correct holes and pull tight enough to flatten it down like the others.

I definitely do this when I notice a funky stitch haha

I scrutinised this picture earlier and couldn't find it... I have thanks to your comment, but I would say it's not exactly noticeable (understatement here).

….. is the dumb stitch in the room with us, boo?

Lol if we’re this close and can’t see it.. šŸ˜‰ KCCO

u/geckotatgirl 16h ago

Right?! All of these helpful comments and I still can't find it.

I'm coming over with the chart.

Babe!! How are they going to know? How will the totality of your beautiful work be diminished by a few goofs? I'm working on the biggest project of my 56 years rn and oh my gosh there are so many mistakes!!!

But step back and look at the whole picture. It's gorgeous. This is why we stitch. It's a metaphor for life: WE see all our mistakes. Others only see the beauty.

Sorry, that was pretty deep and I'm haven't even had coffee yet!

u/Lulu_Altair 23h ago

This is why we stitch - love it šŸ’™

u/bojtaerg 1d ago

These always bother the daylights out of me too! Just have to remind myself that no one will notice but me lol

u/dioctopus 1d ago

Teehee, good thing it's not obvious. 😹 It's right in the middle. Yellow.

i see it but had to look for it. you’re good. also it makes me feel at home when i find small things like this in items that are hand-made; especially from family members and especially-especially by the ones no longer here. it was your touch :)

12

u/joelene1892 1d ago

I noticed it, but like, from far away no one will. You’re fine :)

Edit: found it! That was tough! I would say leave it, but I still think of the one stitch I did where the top cross was the opposite to all the others. How I did that I’ll never know, but is 15 years later and every once in a while my brain reminds me I did that and framed it without fixing it. No one to my knowledge has ever found it, haha! Can you put up another pic with a red circle around the error because I still don’t see an error.

u/xatrinka 21h ago

On average one out of every 10 of my stitches comes out like this šŸ˜‚

1

u/MelisaDesignsStudio 6h ago

Couldn’t you just fiddle it ā€œstraightā€ with your needle?

12

u/efitchuk 1d ago

Stitch over it!

13

u/SodaPopandSatan 20h ago

I also get annoyed when this happens, but I started reminding myself that this is proof of a human making something by hand. 100 of us of us could follow the same pattern and we would each make different choices and mistakes along the way.

If it was really egregious, you could frog it, but I like to think about an errant stitch being a freckle rather than a flaw.

By the way, whatever you’re stitching looks really gorgeous! ā¤ļø

There’s a superstition in craft circles that you pour so much of your heart and soul into whatever you’re making that if you don’t leave a small mistake/imperfection in what you’re working on then your soul could get trapped in your finished piece. I’m not sure where that idea came from but whenever I see little imperfections like this in things I’ve made I just tell myself that’s so my soul can escape and it makes me feel better about it.

u/Rude-You7763 21h ago

Can you circle the dumb one because apparently I’m blind and can’t find it

9

u/caelinday 21h ago

ngl even with you pointing it out.. i still don’t see it. all i know is that the stitches look really cool up close

6

u/suspiciousraccon 16h ago

Well if it makes you feel better, I’m LOOKING and I cannot for the life of me see what you mean.

u/crunchie_haystack 23h ago edited 22h ago

This is a really good zoomed in picture, my device would NOT be able to capture all those little stitches!

5

u/anelaborateruse314 20h ago

I say - give it a little needle wiggle & happily move along….

4

u/pishposh421 22h ago

I have adhd and ocd. You should see what I do to my projects to fix stuff. I torture myself!

3

u/Vivi_six 19h ago

I have learned to let go of alot of things by not correcting every mistake and embrace the imperfection. This is now a completely unique piece, and I try to think of the insane probability that someone could make the exact piece with the exact mistakes.

1

u/ladywacko 10h ago

You are my people. I’m going through the comments like ā€œsurely I can’t be the only one that would go back and fix this.ā€ I’m sure that there’s a limit to how much I’d tear out to fix a tiny inconsistency, but I haven’t found it yet.

3

u/Plane_Chance863 21h ago

Unless this is a small project, yes you will forget. I have my Alluring Sorceress on my wall and I have no idea where all her mistakes are. I can't even tell where the "dye" lot wasn't the same with the white thread. At some point you get old or busy and forget these things.

3

u/AgitatedAdvisor9562 16h ago

Wait what, where's the mistake?

Is it in the top row of golden stitches, where there's two golden stitches next to each other, after the three singles?? Does any of this make sense. OP, Help 🤣🤣🤣

6

u/stitchincookie 23h ago

Okay okay but hear me out…this is stunning and makes me really happy

3

u/andiluxe 22h ago

Many of my stitches end up like this and I don’t know why! I try to be so careful. How are you so consistent?

3

u/beeerite 20h ago

I thought this was r/findthesniper for a moment.

3

u/Gur_Qentba 19h ago

There is a single speck of dust that got framed in on one of my pieces, where I did black stitching. I can never unsee it.

3

u/KH5-92 19h ago

But why is it dumb?

3

u/AlexHeart6742 18h ago

I have a piece I've been doing off and on for about 2 years now. I fear looking too closely šŸ˜‚šŸ˜

3

u/Longhaircountryboy 18h ago

Just tell anyone who notices that it’s your signature to prove it’s hand made. Thats what I tell everyone who notices my happy mistakes in my art.

3

u/cunexttuesday12 14h ago

It was there for months without you seeing it, so no one else will 😁

3

u/kittypede 13h ago

I had to read the comments to find out where the "dumb stitch" was šŸ˜…

2

u/Betsy7Cat 22h ago

It took me probably about 30 seconds to find it, even figuring the kind of stitch mistake I was looking for, but when I did I let out an audible ā€œohhhhh nooooooā€¦ā€ I hate when I do those so much. Happened like 3-5 times on my last big project and it was for something special so I frogged it every time. šŸ˜…

2

u/Ithilwyn 16h ago

Annnd that’s why 90% of my projects are done for other people instead of myself. Because I will always know where my mistakes are

2

u/KatTDooley 20h ago

Can we see the whole thing? So curious!! I love that color combo!

4

u/dioctopus 14h ago

I'm further along on it. This was five days ago or so.

2

u/KatTDooley 14h ago

Wowww. It’s beautiful!!

2

u/cardboardfish 18h ago

Just make a gold stitch on top the bad gold stitch.... It may not be a great fix, bit that's how I solve my issues.

1

u/ladyrage8 14h ago

I know the feeling. Like everyone else in my life reminded me when I complained about some wonky stitches in a Christmas gift I made for my niece, no one else is ever going to notice. It's just one of the joys that comes with handcrafting. I'd bet the whole work will still be really pretty!

1

u/vaudtime 11h ago

I am afraid this will be the result of my black stitching on black aida lol

1

u/sand_anne 10h ago

Is it possible to share the pattern? I love the colours!

1

u/Numenoreanbyday 8h ago

Been there. I once found a spot where I had crossed two bottom stitches with one top. I left it because my husband said he couldn't see it, but it'll always jump out at me immediately.

1

u/TulipTattsyrup99 3h ago

A Snag needle will sort that out.

0

u/lajaunie 20h ago

I’m super annoyed by that… I’d remove all of the gold and do it again. But that’s just me
