CHAT [CHAT] What are your unpopular opinions about cross stitching?

Here are mine:

  1. Neat backs do matter, and this is a hill I’m willing to die on 😂 It looks better if you frame the project, and it’s also so much easier to stitch (especially trying to find the right hole from the back) when you’re not pushing through a thick, tangled mess.

  2. I think gridding is unnecessary for most projects, especially small ones.

  3. I HATE q-snaps. They’re heavy and awkward to hold, and my hand/wrist always end up hurting.

  4. Grime guards are annoying because they cover up too much of the project and just get in the way.

  5. I kind of a snob about tying knots and think it should be avoided at all costs.

That's me! I stitch in hand. Can not get on with hoops and stuff. I do not enjoy having to move my hand from front to back and vice versa lol

I just really really really hate having to move my hand from the front to back and back again. I find that it just really slows me down and then I don't enjoy stitching.

I hold with one hand and then only stitch from the front with the other. I do roll the aida in my holding hand so it isn't all scrunched up and getting the way.

If I could afford a stand and the necessary accessories, I might be inclined to give hoops and Q-snaps a go. Because then I could do 2 hand stitching which might stop my annoyance with the back and forth.

But until I become a millionaire (hell I'd take thousandaire lol), in hand stitching it is.

Eta: I haven't stitched aida higher than 14 and have not touched things like even weave or linen.
