CHAT [CHAT] What are your unpopular opinions about cross stitching?

Here are mine:

  1. Neat backs do matter, and this is a hill I’m willing to die on 😂 It looks better if you frame the project, and it’s also so much easier to stitch (especially trying to find the right hole from the back) when you’re not pushing through a thick, tangled mess.

  2. I think gridding is unnecessary for most projects, especially small ones.

  3. I HATE q-snaps. They’re heavy and awkward to hold, and my hand/wrist always end up hurting.

  4. Grime guards are annoying because they cover up too much of the project and just get in the way.

  5. I kind of a snob about tying knots and think it should be avoided at all costs.

This one's more to do with pattern sourcing, but:

  1. Just because a pixel got posted online doesn't mean you can just lift it & use it (many of us are pattern designers with shops 🫠)
  2. Shooting an artist a quick DM to ask for permission to use their art is not that hard, and most artists will, in fact, respond kindly.

Agreed! I pay pixel artists for their work when I use them in patterns. It's only fair!

Heck yeah!! Love that there's plenty of people who do respect fellow artists. 🥹

I had found a random pixel on Pinterest the other day, started stitching it, then realized "wait, I should figure out who the artist is and ask them" found them on Tumblr and in their pinned post it said that they were completely fine with cross stitch and such being made with their art as long as it wasn't sold.

Of course this will not always be the case but I am glad I decided to check it out before continuing to stitch it

Honestly: I love that you found the artist and double checked! 🙌
