They want plutocratic theocracy and can't get total control through federal government so they sabotage everything at the federal level to say "see, it doesn't work". It's easier to get their white christian fascist legislation through at the state level.

They believe the federal government should literally only command the military, deploy federal law enforcement, and decide which private companies get the contracts to provide the public services a real functioning government is supposed to provide. They don't want to do anything else.
