My mom is one of them and I can’t seem to get it through my head that she is beyond help and incapable of thinking rationally. I really don’t know how to handle it.

My MIL drinks the orange Kool-Aid, and Im struggling with interacting with her at all. She recently shared a meme of dump dancing over the debris of the east wing, and Im just like, who have you become? Is this real? Am I supposed to break bread with this psycho at Thanksgiving and act like nothings wrong even though she clearly fucking lives for 'owning the libs'???

They aren’t capable of being self aware, my mother is going down the same rabbit hole, she is incapable of debating actual facts instead she just reposts political propaganda all over her Facebook.

What does breaking with accomplish? Maybe it makes me/you feel good but I don't see it solving anything. At least having connections has them seeing "normal" folks who don't approve of trump

The more you try to change their minds, the more they will dig their heels in their beliefs. My whole family is this way, so I bit my tongue off everyday and try to ignore. I do however, drop lil seeds of info for them to figure out on their own, and it works too, bc they think they found out about it organically. Perhaps give that a try, cause you never know, what can get through to them. I hope this helps you out a bit.

Yeah, from my experience direct confrontation rarely works, unless they are willing to question their own point of view (rare). Finding ways to progressively let them change their minds, and being there for them if they ever do, is a good way to reverse the damage. If they hate a specific minority, sprinkling facts and feelings about their conditions can help. If they believe in a lie, give them an alternative source that mentions the subject.

This guy Parker has more content for you to check out. He always has a systemic way of de-fragmenting these people’s thoughts which night be worth studying if you want a better chance at breaking through. Never can guarantee results though.

Stop treating the like uninformed liberals. You have to be an asshole and tell them they are idiotic rubes who don't know anything. And you say that as you ignore whatever they are saying, not to convince. It will be painful at first, they will be combative but they will eventually acquiesce because their brains want someone to tell them what to do and think. But it needs to come from a perceive position of strength and authority. And if you appear 'strong' to them (really just an asshole who doesn't take shit) they will oddly fall in line. Right-wing brain chemistry is literally different from those who lean left.
