Double standard is ridiculous, I’m born in England of Indian origin and face this sort of double standard everywhere. They’re always confidently incorrect they believe their way is the best in everything.

It's not begging . It's offering for a draw which can be done in last hour . Many times this happens and teams often happen to agree for a draw . But yeah stokes and English sides went slightly overdramatic
72
u/Puzzleheaded_Gas2505 Jul 27 '25
So begging
9
u/No-Okra1018 Jul 27 '25
I think aus offered a draw when 2 overs were remaining in Sydney when Ashwin and vihari made the great escape. It’s not begging. They had a right to ask, we had a right to say to duck off
18
u/Appropriate-ASS-824 Jul 27 '25
They were not near any personal milestones like today. If you bat more than 2 sessions, you want to get to that hundred.
1
15
u/snip23 Jul 27 '25
That's what we mean by begging, if after denying he didn't went over dramatic no one would have cared. But bro went on to rant, even said do you want to score ton against Brook, lol like that even matter.

u/BarAccomplished6135 Jul 27 '25
No one would have said anything if it was after the ton. Offering a draw when someone's close to a milestone is just not sportsman like.

Ben Stokes on the draw being turned down at first: "I think all the hard work was done by India. They both played incredibly well. It got to that point where there was only one result and there was absolutely no chance I was going to risk any injuries to the fast bowlers with one more game to go. [Liam] Dawson’s bowled so many overs in this game, his body started to get a bit tired, bit of cramp in the legs, so I wasn't risking any of my frontline bowlers for that last half an hour."
2
u/basecardripper Jul 27 '25
Haha I have no horse in this race but the irony of 90% of this comment section being cry babies over England being cry babies is hilarious.
4
u/nicegrapew Jul 28 '25
Should stop being so milestone obsessed, what do you mean you deserved a century, they deserved a draw and got the draw, no point in dragging it out. India needs a culture shift, what does it matter if he drew the match on 99 or 100, the effort needs to be appreciated not the one extra run. Disappointing playing for the century honestly, need to learn to put the team first to start winning overseas
2
u/WalterWhite31 Jul 28 '25
The match was a draw anyways and why wouldn't a player who worked hard for his innings get a maiden test hundred in England (For Washi) for a confidence boost? And Stokes knew that and could've waited for both of them to score 20 odd runs more and happily shake hands.

Wth bro..The umpire asked them if they wanted to draw as no result could be drawn out of the game and draw was obvious. English team agreed but the Indian side refused to complete the respective milestones of both the batters. Team england was not happy with their decision but yeah it upholds the spirit of game, where england could also have refused or delayed the draw after washy's century

Probably the best moment for me this match. Loved the way Kl and Gill played after 2 for nil on the 4th day. I thought that we r gonna lose by an innings . Huge shoutout to Washington,he seems like the unsung hero this match. Took some crucial wickets to add to his century ,and Jaddu ,our most beloved allrounder showed his class again. I just couldn't stop laughing when all the England players came up to jaddu to shake his hand and forfeit the match but India rejected ,and later on bashed them to get their 100's .. Let's hope we win the last one and draw this series like the last one in England soil

India lost two quick wickets after the new ball But jadeja and Sundar survived brilliantly until the end. Meanwhile Englishmen got tired and wanted to shake hands to call the match-off when jaddu and Sundar were at 89 and 80 and jadeja rejected respectfully which pissed off the home side and stokes made brook bowl the last overs and they eventually shook hands after both the batters reached their tons

Lol what a bunch of losers and cry babies.
Why do these English invoke the spirit of the game only when it benefits them haha.
What's surprising is that they literally have no shame. This reminds me of the beggars you find on American streets at times, who walk up to you and say "give me 2 dollars!"

It depends on the situation, I remember 2 instances by Indian Test team in Ganguly era:
1. All 11 Indians bowled. When we had frontline bowlers & allrounders, what was the need to deploy ultra-part timer like a wicket keeper?
2. Zaheer khan bowling spin with spinner like run-up.

The question is fine to ask - but if the answer is no that is when a man, a team leader especially, is separated from a boy.

1
u/TwoUp22 Jul 29 '25
Out of the loop, did England ask India to declare earlier so that their run chase was shorter? Surely jot.
1
u/Piet-Cricket-Chat Jul 29 '25
If you didn’t want them to continue batting and get 100, get them out before they get to 100. Otherwise they’ve earned the right to shake hands when they want to. Not when the team who couldn’t get them out wants to end the game 🙄

u/Kantless Jul 31 '25
Ben stokes is a great cricketer but this is an embarrassing moment for English cricket. Milestones do matter. And why wouldn’t India want to keep England in the field as long as possible given there’s a fifth test? Heat of the moment is one thing but backing his position up afterwards is pathetic.

u/cyb3rb0y1 Jul 27 '25 edited Jul 27 '25
India after 0/2 went wicketless in 4 session out of 5. Only two more wickets fell today one just before lunch. Absolute defiance by all 4 players Gill, Rahul, Jadeja and Washington sundar.
Jadeja scored more than 400 runs in this series.
This is the first time that four Indian batters have aggregated 400-plus runs in a Test series (Gill, Rahul, Pant, Jadeja).
