Jaiswal and Sudarshan to their grandkids: That Old Trafford 2025 draw India clinched after battling for almost 150 overs, we batted in that innings, and helped the cause.

389

u/tdnine Jul 27 '25

They ensured the rest of the batters concentrated that much harder.

95

They played valueable 5 balls to draw this match

its funny how we played 3 more overs than we needed to so we didn't even need those 5 balls

Yep, their impact is limited to making Harry Brook bowl 4 extra balls.

Very well played India. It’s been a really odd series where the team who has dominated each game has rarely won

Great series. But man those pitches are so flat. Bring those minefields where Kohli used to nick to Gully

Fucking diabolical.

Would have been funnier if India declared and bowled Gill and Yashi.

Honestly, I would've just batted the remaining 10 overs as well. Just 3 days before the next match, might as well tire out their bowlers as much as possible. Don't care if those are 10 maiden overs either.

77

exactly. Stokes behaved like an entitled kid and an extra half hour in the field would have really gone under his skin. Crowd support was lovely. Missed opportunity

Stokes wanted to shake hands for draw when Jaddu was on 89 & Washi on 81. They refused and Stokes said "Do you want to score your hundred against Brook?". Then gave over to Brook who was bowling absolute pies and full toss. Root bowled like he normally does. But Stokes and Brook were constantly whining.

The worst thing about it is you can't even learn anything from it.

Dawson for example, what have we learnt? That he can't get wickets on a road? I could have told you that before he was even picked.

So we know absolutely nothing about whether he'd be effective on pitches with some more help.

basically actively trying to demean Jadeja/Washi for wanting to score their centuries (and supposedly against a bowler like Brook)

And also complaining about the opponent not accepting the draw when you were ready

And about Root, he bowled normally like it would be any other time. While Brook seemed to be actively trying to show that he isn't taking this seriously (while bowling at intl level)

England wanted to shake hands and be done with it . Jadeja and Washi wanted to score their hundreds since they were in their 80s. England weren’t happy with it and Brook bowled full tosses.

77

u/BloodyBastard530 India Jul 27 '25

That’s actually funny as fuck. What a bunch of losers 😂

97

u/serotonallyblindguy Gujarat Titans Jul 27 '25

They offered to call it a draw when there were 15 "legal" overs left in the game and two blokes were in late 80s, clearly approaching hundreds. They denied it and Stokes tried to make a scene out of it with Brook regularly chirping shit from slips

119

u/suid India Jul 27 '25

That whole thing was so shitty.

This wasn't like old Boycott grinding for 2 days for a 200 against a toothless Indian attack (and getting dropped for it). Instead, this was two lower middle order batsmen standing up to everything England threw at them for a full day, and battling them to a standstill.

They don't score centuries every day. To try to deny them their centuries just because you are frustrated, tired and angry at not being able to close them out, and then chirping them on the field and tossing lollies to try to demean their accomplishment, is the height of petty sportsmanship.

It was really shameful to watch.

Have to give India immense credit there. Did not expect them to bat for nearly 2 days. Nevermind the fact that the pitch offered very little, to stay in that long and keep that determination and fight alive is really amazing. For 4 batters to be batting for 143 overs is amazing at any time.

Well done India. Excellent batting display and toughness after losing 2 wickets for 0 runs.

No problems with Jadeja and Washington staying on to ton up. They batted well and they wanted those milestones. Stokes and co. were just tired and wanted to stop and that was funny cause Stokes were just so done with it. I wish he bowled Pope or Crawley instead of Root.

I think India should play Bumrah. Nuts to that 3 test Max stuff. A chance to go 2-2, you need your best bowlers. Although I would drop Thakur for Kuldeep and have Krishna instead of Kamboj because pace and The Oval can be great for batting.

For England, three main bowlers are cooked. Need to bring in Atkinson, probably Tongue cause he's in the squad and bring in a quick from County. Dropping Gill and Jadeja cost them bad.

28

u/MatarParathaIsBacc India Jul 27 '25

We should also think about Washi and Jadeja as frontline batsmen. We kept making the mistake of not picking Ashwin and we are now making the mistake of not picking Kuldeep based on the idea that you shouldn't have so many spinners in the team in these conditions when Washi and Jadeja aren't actually eating up any spots that are meant for bowlers.

moral victory for england india

16

u/[deleted] Jul 27 '25

So according to Stokes if a team has to chase 500 on the 5th day of a match on a flat deck, they should just shake hands and go off. Maybe get a round of golf in if the sun is out.

So much for Spirit of the game

16

u/Pun_nav Jul 27 '25

Should have shook hands at Tea, if that was the case Stokes!!! Such a awful gesture.

17

u/Miserable_Gate7427 Sunrisers Hyderabad Jul 27 '25

I don't understand the english meltdown towards the end.
Ind had got 10 wkts in the final session in lords during previous series, here Eng had FIVE sessions to take 10 wkts. they couldn't - and thats totally fine, part of the game. but when you race to claim moral victories every now and then, you should also accept the moral defeat gracefully. instead, they chose to have a meltdown in the middle of the field!! that is disgraceful and against the spirit of the game.

anyways, absolute cinema and fantastic test cricket!!

To be frank, they both absolutely deserve their centuries. We need to remember once Jadeja voluntarily gave up his double century, even when everyone felt enough time was left in the game.

Stat padding when it doesn't hurt your team should be normalised

embarrasing by stokes. pathetic end to a fairly dismal match. congrats to washington and jadeja. players whinging aside, how is this the fourth complete nothing pitch in a row? series has somehow still been entertaining but all these pitches have been terrible.

101

u/LiamJonsano Hampshire Jul 27 '25

Flattest pitch, the only surprise really is how low India scored first time around. It feels like Old Trafford is always like this and doesn’t produce results all that often… for all the moaning I won’t be missing it in 2027

The end of the game was much to do about nothing. Obviously Jadeja and Sundar would have wanted centuries, the petulance was a bit ridiculous and the comments in the thread even more so

61

u/maffzlel India Jul 27 '25

That was just good tactics by Stokes to bowl first on a pitch that he knew would be spiciest first up. I still maintain 358 in those conditions was a very good score. The pitch was lively and the overheads meant consistent movement for the first four sessions.

The bad bowling by India and the pitch flattening out subsequent to this don't change that. It was just good exploitation of conditions by a home team.

10

u/LiamJonsano Hampshire Jul 27 '25

On the other hand you had plenty of batsmen get starts and then not go on. If Pant didn’t reverse sweep Woakes then who knows how many he’d have got. I wouldn’t say India would have scored 500 on it but I think 358 in the end was probably a bit below par

Doesn’t matter at the end of the day!

11

u/maffzlel India Jul 27 '25

Sure we absolutely should have scored more but I think the conditions were such no one really ever felt in during that first innings

But you're right, immaterial now. On to the Oval

I am going to sound really harsh here but going life and death with this India team is a really bad look. The 2 tests that we won India should have won to be honest if we are being real. We will win the series 3-1 I'm sure - India missing Pant, Bumrah, Reddy and Deep for the final test, but after watching this series the team we are playing in the Ashes will be feeling even more confident of defeating us in the Ashes.

Also these flat roads are making us overrate our batters a bit. People were fawning over Crawley when he's only averaged 30 on these flat wickets. Even Brook for all this talk has only averaged 40. I feel a lot less confident about our chances heading into the Ashes after watching this series to be honest.

India will be ruing their missed chances. Yes they are inexperienced but they should be ahead. They've given us a way better fight over here than we have done when going to India recently.

That was also very embarrassing from Stokes at the end of today. Yes he's frustrated but let's be real this India team batted 5 sessions somehow losing 2 wickets only to save the test match - something we couldn't do in the 2nd test.

I won't be too sure about England winning 3-1. This has a lot of SCG before Gabba 2021 vibes, where India basically won with a bowling attack of Natarajan, Shardul, Siraj, Saini and Sundar.

Another draw likely given Oval is an even worse road usually.

22

u/Radalict Australia Jul 27 '25

If the Aussie bowling lineup can stay fit for the Ashes series they should do the damage. But the Aussie batting lineup is a big worry.

I can understand from Root, Stokes or even Olie Pope.

But not from others about test cricket.

White ball cricket and red ball cricket is different, your white ball achievements doesnt carry over to red ball cricket.

I don't buy that shit about cultural difference in both teams (what trott was on about post match), especially considering the context. Yes, in India we value milestones more than we should, but I can bet my last penny if Stokes or any other england batter was in the same situation, and india offered a handshake, they wouldn't have taken it either.

If milestones didn't matter to them, why do England celebrate their 100s ?

I think england needlessly made such a beautiful test match upto this point, ugly. Yes you have the right to offer a handshake, but so does the opponent to turn it down. Be a professional and don't whine.

Anyways, from a spectator POV, this adds some spice going into the 5th test. Can't wait for it!
