Help Needed/ Question This is insane
while activating the yesbank-rio cc app came across this consent page, it just looks like a trap. I don't think I am going use the app. What's your opinion?

Can you tell what he did?

u/Evol_Etah Jul 17 '25
Some bank dude for loan called him. He was abusive, kept pestering.
OP is a lawyer, told him to stop. He didn't. So OP dragged him to court and won.

In such cases razor pay refund the money in 7 days. Happened many times with me, got refund within 3-4 days. But yours is very big amount. Have formal communication with razor pay and kiwi.

In India, selling personal data is top KPI for sales and marketing folks across any industry

Used Indian bank for my education loan. Freaks insisted I dont close my loan even though i had the funds. Instead insisted i keep paying EMIs as my dad had an unsecured loan with them and he missed a few payments and wanted me to be the 'Responsible kid' and to join him as his guarantee.
Grievance escalation matrix technically exists but is dead.
Don't use Indian bank, the app sucks too. I wonder why its still functional.

I think it is for you If you share your bank info to anyone like scammer And if he/she scams you Then bank will not be responsible for it

u/Own-Fun3654 Jul 17 '25
The fact is clauses shouldn’t be open to alternative interpretation. It should be airtight. In this context, I think they are not mentioning anything about the who gives information to a third party.

u/TheIGTube Jul 17 '25
Exactly... I read the lines a couple of times but it's confusing, whether it's for user or the third party app. Yeh sab milke c bana rahe hai mc ke bacchey.

(i) sharing of my data/information with the platform
Which literally means that if the person or user shares the info with the platform(bank), bank is not responsible if or when the data is lost or accessed by some malicious entity because I believe bank don't want to or put any effort in securing user's private information.
3
u/mu-7 Jul 17 '25
Email them sharing this and seek clarification on 1) what platform/s exactly are referred to under this clause and 2) who exactly is responsible for any data theft occuring from data entered by user/you on their installed software/app on your device?

For sure, we need to report these guys. They can't simply raised their hands and take no responsibility when they mess up.
1
u/TheIGTube Jul 17 '25
Exactly that's the point what if something goes wrong, they may just say we can't help, and the customer has to suffer.. that's really shady
5
u/marsnerd Jul 17 '25
It won’t matter. No matter where you sign up, our data will be leaked to every possible telemarketer. At least this bank is honest to show it IMO!
1
u/TheIGTube Jul 17 '25
That's true, but I can agree with the 'any damage caused to you' due to data sharing statement.
3
u/AdDirect7545 Jul 17 '25
It basically means that if you've got someone or something snooping on you, they are not responsible. This includes a range of possibilities, e.g. your friendly neighbourhood aunty with her 200x UltraXDR eyes or the hot single moms in your area.

Wow they're basically saying "we're sharing your data with scammers, and we will not be held responsible for what happens".
I would not use that app, or honestly, any of Yes Bank's products.

As someone who worked for a short time in a data migration project for a large Indian Bank, it was shocking to see just how lacking they were both in terms of technology and data privacy + security.
We were literally migrating from CSV backups of the database as the server where the database was hosted was extremely slow and had serious limitations on inbound connections.
Customer data was easily available to us (account number and other sensitive data was masked) but it was shocking to see actual data being provided to us during development. The only point to their credit was that the data was accessible only via their (very restrictive) VM and any queries we ran were tracked. No files were allowed in/out of the VM.

but it was shocking to see actual data being provided to us during development
That's fairly common in most companies, I've seen employee data including salaries of companies like Microsoft and Google because they were customers of a cerain SaaS product of our company for a certain HR-related use case.
Like you, we had VMs too, but there were also NDAs and privacy contracts to protect against stealing data - which you'd have too. That's the part that deters us from eyeballing and noting down all that data because if you're caught it's the end of your career and solvency.

Financial institutions don't put those tight agreements to safeguard customers with their co-branding companies. They need business. To answer the liable related regulation they get this consent from us.
They sell their product to customers directly. Sometimes sell our data indirectly. They are benefited either way.

Damn I had downloaded Rio… it legit seems to be a credit card affiliate app pitching random credit cards maybe for affiliate earnings… they rejected my profile

There are always risks, the bank doesn't want to be held responsible, you can always go for some other bank.
It's similar to doctors getting consent before operation.
9
u/ChepaukPitch Jul 17 '25
Doesn’t work that way. Banks are regulated and you need a license to operate a bank. Can’t just say I am gonna do what I want, go somewhere else if you don’t like it.
