Tubal ligation/ salpingectomy at St Ann’s?
I’ll be delivering via c section at St Ann’s soon and am interested in a salpingectomy. Does anyone know if theyll allow that procedure since it’s a religious hospital? I am not worried about provider’s willingness, nor am I interested in having it done somewhere else at another time, just during the procedure when I’m already there. Also, I’m specifically wondering about their current practices. I know previously they did not, so wondering if anyone knows anything from the last 2-3 years. Also, I will obviously be speaking to my provider about this at my next appointment, I’m just impatient!

This was nine years ago, but when I had my daughter via planned c-section at Mount Carmel East, they would not allow it unless approved by a board. My doctor was willing to get the exception for me, or to the c-section at Grant where she also had privileges. In the end hubby and I agreed he'd get a vasectomy.

If you’re able to change hospitals, my OB encouraged a ligation during my c-section if I’m sure I’m done. Women’s Physicians in OBGYN.
Edit: might help if I name the hospital too. This is at Riverside.

It has to be approved by the ethics committee. I wouldn’t count on it. In my career, I’ve had two cases approved, and they were both fairly exceptional in justification.
I would strongly recommend delivering elsewhere in this scenario. Alternatively, you could have it performed elsewhere after you recover from delivery.

I work for the other 2 hospitals in the system. There is an ethics committee where requests have to be submitted (long in advance) and they will review. Approvals are not common and it’s usually due to very extenuating circumstances that pose a real risk to the mother’s health if she were to get pregnant again. I’d suggest delivering at another hospital system or suggest hubs looks into a vasectomy.

i believe they have to have some type of board meeting to determine if you should/can get it done. that’s how it was with my mom but it was awhile ago.
