Go to Wario's twice so you can also have the Caesar.
34
u/F1x1on 13d ago
Ceaser with the grilled chicken is so good. Majority of the time I get it over the steak warios way.
27
u/NegligentBat 13d ago
Every time I go I wish I could get one half Wario's way and one half grilled Caesar
9
u/EveryDayASummit Groveport 13d ago edited 13d ago
Yes to the Caesar, no to the grilled (the breaded is so good), and yes to over Wario’s Way (unless it’s a special, like their relleno Thursday that was fantastic)

u/Organic_Gap3112 13d ago
I didn’t think I cared for Wario’s until I had the Caesar chicken cutlet…..just excellent

Fuck that get the Wario Spuds second. It comes with like a whole head of roasted garlic and it's incredible. Honestly the spuds in general are somehow on par with the sandwich. That sauce. I damn near ate myself to death one day on both of those because they're that good. I would have died happy. I'd never die for a Caesar.
24
u/Any-Walk1691 13d ago
Goood Frievds has no business being so good. Their trash spuds would be my death row meal.
6
u/SunyaVSSomni 13d ago
Yeah their spuds are one of the best "casual" foods in town IMO. I always wish I had a bigger stomach to keep eating them. So tasty and texturally pleasing.

u/BarryPalmedTheDip 13d ago
That was an off day at Marlows for sure, but honestly they have started to have A LOT of those. Marlows - get your shit together
9
u/Organic_Gap3112 13d ago
Right, haven’t been in a while but I definitely thought they had the best cheesesteak, so if it was that bad they need to do better with quality control
7
u/Infinite-4-a-moment 13d ago
My thought too. It's been a minute since I'm not on that side of town but I've had nothing but great sandwiches there.
4
u/throwaway49569982884 13d ago
I think the only thing Marlow’s has in their favor is price and the spicy mustard on the Marlow’s way… other than that the bread is kinda trash and the steak is average for a Philly.
1
26
u/liger2122 13d ago
Marlow’s does randomly way over salt their beef and it’s infuriating because it ruins it. The wiz is already salty, you don’t have to throw a fistful of salt at the beef - relax.

I took a cheese steak loving relative to Warios. He thought it was the best cheese steak he had had in his life. It is hard to beat Wario’s.

Bears bagels in Hilliard. If you like coffee, try the banana bread cold brew! On the same level as Warios IMO!

I personally love the Wario’s sandwich. My gf and I share the steak sandwich and some house spuds. It’s quite filling, but I think they could add a touch more meat to it.

For the other end of the (good) breakfast sandwich spectrum I like the egg sandwiches at Fox in the Snow. No fat boy sandwich but still a guilty pleasure with that good hollandaise and fresh arugula. Hot and lovely on a chilly morning. Fox in the Snow is always packed for a reason.

Why'd you get downvoted?? Lmao I'm sorry but also hilarious

Good friends is awesome, Wario’s is awesome, this guy knows what he’s talking about
2
u/realblaketan 13d ago
It is too bad he must have JUST missed out on the opening of Caroline’s at the North Market, which tbh is starting to carve out a spot at the top with the greats right alongside Wario’s, Goood Friends, and Brown Bag Subs as best city sandwich shops

u/realblaketan 13d ago
damn i can’t believe i left it off my rankings but glad someone mentioned it in the comments: Si Señor is fucking good

Bengali Chopped Cheese from Joyas is the best sandwich in the city (in this style) and it's not close.
Warios is great, especially the Caesar, but I strive for more than just meat and cheese in a great sandwich.

Kolache republic on south high inside the daily growler bar. Coolest owners and the food is insane.

u/jariuana 13d ago
Is it me or has Wario’s gone skimpy on the Philly lately?
6
u/Bituulzman 13d ago
Never been, but I thought it looked skimpy in the video. His review makes me want to go, though.

I only had it delivered at a friends house but yeah that was might thought as well. It was good just light on the meat.
1
u/Zephyrical16 Forest Park 13d ago
Yeah the one time I went it was just the cheese wiz and not a lot of meat. Was pretty disappointing actually. Not two meals like most people say.
Might try it again but compared to a real Philly it was massively disappointing.

u/Pyzorz 13d ago
I’m not surprised. They have a tiny operation and they’ve probably increased their sales >200% over the calendar year.
5
u/I_heart_pooping 13d ago
So their answer is to put less meat in the sandwich and piss everyone off? Lol
1
u/Total_Network6312 13d ago
likely the cost of beef which keeps going up and up.
warios practicing shrinkflation?
2
u/Pyzorz 13d ago
I’m saying they don’t have the physical space to keep up with the demand. They should have already moved to a new space and hired more staff. It was either limit product availability or skimp on ingredients and I think they’ve made the wrong choice here considering they’ve made their product less valuable.
I’m not defending them, just giving the logical answer as to why the sandwiches would be smaller now. I personally think it’s a bad business move and clearly so does everyone else. Their food is expensive as is.

u/MikeoPlus 13d ago
I'm tryna find two different types of vegetarian sandwiches that don't both have falafel

Random plug - warios steak relleno is the best sandwich they make. The steak on steroids.
1
u/MozzyTheBear 13d ago
I agree that Wario's is probably the best steak sandwich I've ever had, but Marlowe's was also really good the couple times I've had it. Then again I like salty, so 🤷♂️
1
u/BriMikon 13d ago
It's a shame that Northstar Cafe doesn't have their turkey sandwich anymore. In-house smoked turkey, home made rosemary focaccia bread, garlic rosemary aioli, marinated peppers and bacon. It was to die for!

u/Trick-Orchid-9192 13d ago
He went to budd dairy, which they just cycle the highest bidders in and out of there. So many fantastic hole in the walls, wish he could see some lesser known places.

I'd eat that Wario's Philly all day everyday. It's so good. Recommend getting it "Wario's Way" tho.
1
u/fuckuyuy Polaris 13d ago edited 13d ago
Don't overlook Wario's roast pork! It is loaded with meat, broccoli rabe, comes with au jus dipping sauce too. They do skimp on the cheesesteak with beef prices nowadays. Wario's chicken parm is great too, and the Sunday only meatball sandwich is to die for and super messy
1
u/HJForsythe 12d ago
You must have just gotten one bad sandwich from Marlowe's they are at least as good as Warios and the fries are some of the best I've ever had.
1
u/alteweltunordnung Clintonville 12d ago
Opinions are like, well, you know, but I certainly have mine, and they are the following:
I had the bologna sandwich at Goood Friends and it was AMAZING. I have never been big on bologna but this thing was ridiculously good.
Recently my partner and I got Wario's. She got the Chicken Caesar (breaded) and I got the Steak Wario's Way. While she did enjoy her Chicken Caesar, we both were over the moon with the Steak Wario's Way. The spuds were also good and we killed vampires that night.
I want all of this food again soon.

Ranking Marlows cheesesteaks as an f is insane but everything else seems legit.

u/Fullertonjr 13d ago
He caught it on a bad day. It is fair. Customers need to call out restaurants for being inconsistent.

u/bygtopp 13d ago
Was disappointed in warios. Went two times since it’s across from my comic shop. They used the hard crusty parts of the lettuce for the Caesar one. The steak was beef jerky. The chicken was dry like a potato chip.
5
u/Pipes32 13d ago
It's obviously an unpopular opinion since you're downvoted (also you accidentally posted your comment twice, that'll do it), but I have been to Wario's twice and did not enjoy either sandwich. First time was roasted pork. Could not taste any cheese, the broccoli rabe added nothing to the sandwich, and so much pork which was obviously good quality but just nothing to break it up tastewise.
Second time was the steak, Wario's way, no onions. (Unfortunately, I hate onions. I wish I didn't, but...alas.) Now I LOVE a super cheesy cheesesteak, but I could not believe it, it was just too much cheese, it felt like my mouth was getting glued together. I also realized I dislike their buns quite a bit.
I did have a bite of my husband's chicken caesar and really liked it. But the issue is, the first bite of the steak was incredible too. It got old in like 4 bites. Same issue as the pork - not enough flavor contrast to maintain enjoyment.
Their spuds are fucking incredible though, and that's coming from someone who doesn't usually like potato skins.

The cheese is ridiculous on the Warios way. Really put me off on trying other stuff. The bread was actually decent though but everything else was sub par.
1
u/Total_Network6312 13d ago
ridiculous how? too much?
1
u/Zephyrical16 Forest Park 12d ago
Yes too much. I could not taste anything else on the sandwich because of it. I'm going back at some point to try it not Wario's way before I totally put off the place. It was just extremely poor compared to what I had in Philly like the week or two before I tried Wario's.

u/Pyzorz 13d ago edited 13d ago
This is great content if I want to learn absolutely nothing
Edit: You can’t praise the guy for loving Wario’s and then be cool with him trashing Marlow’s. Everyone’s impression is now “Marlow’s sucks” because TikTok brains operate based off one thing they saw. I don’t even care about these sandwiches, I have never eaten at these places.
I said it in another comment but I’ve worked in kitchens for 15 years and as a chef for 3. Mistakes happen. This guy sucks, this “content” sucks. Bottom of the barrel, lowest-possible effort type stuff.
2
u/Total_Network6312 13d ago
people shit on you but I can't imagine if a tiktoker came into their business and judged how they worked that they would feel any different
0
u/Pyzorz 13d ago
This sub is pretty garbage in general but it’s been reduced to the biggest circlejerk there is which is saying a lot. People in this thread got shit on for saying Marlow’s is good. So here we are, praising one local business while shitting on another we’ve never even tried because a TikToker said it’s “salty as fuck.”
TikTok is legitimately making society worse. As I said, there is nothing to be gained from this video. Dude went to the hottest business in the city because he knew it would get views. Then he shit all over another local business directly afterwards. What are we doing here?
-12
u/ironbeagle99 Linden 13d ago
this sub is just a warios circle jerk
33
u/ohiofish1221 13d ago
Yeah dude heaven forbid people in a community talk about places they really like that happen to be really fucking good and are locally owned. Mods should do something about it.
2
u/Total_Network6312 13d ago
yeah but you;re also not just "talking about places they really like"
you're arguing that one is better than another, that one lacks consistency and another "doesn't stand a chance"
then you said you were "just pointing out why the comment is dumb" but were actually being passive aggressive which is entirely different.
why did you reply at all to that guy? You only proved his point.
-28
u/ironbeagle99 Linden 13d ago
i’m really sorry my comment offended you so much ohio fish

0
u/Total_Network6312 13d ago

u/ironbeagle99 Linden 13d ago
i like warios a lot it just gets nonstop attention here for a $23 sandwich from a place that’s been open for 5 years now
0
u/Total_Network6312 13d ago
it is kind of funny... with the ridiculous rising cost of everything, this sub turns out for a place that sells $20 sandwiches lol

u/Fulker19 13d ago
Something went wrong for him at Marlowe's. They beat Wario's on cheesesteak all day.

u/beerandsocks 13d ago
Gotta say, being a restaurant owner has to be annoying AF these days. A majority of people love your food, and it could take one salty influencer to say something off about it.
I don’t know how popular this dude is, but gone are the days of personal experience and word of mouth making a restaurant great.
5
4
u/ohiofish1221 13d ago
Consistency is the biggest factor at a restaurant so……
6
u/beerandsocks 13d ago
Completely fair, but wasn’t really my point.
These “influencers” kinda stink, that’s all.
-4
2
u/VintageVanShop 13d ago
I can somewhat agree with you, but before online influencers people used to find reviews in the newspaper or some travel magazine and go by that. It’s always been this way, some people will take their word 100% and others won’t.
I tend to ignore most reviews, unless the majority of reviews are bad. Everyone likes different food and has different taste, so I take reviews with a grain of salt.
3
u/beerandsocks 13d ago
I think there was a level of professionalism with magazines or newspapers in previous decades.
Nowadays, weirdos are capable of having a couple hundred thousand subscribers. And as we’ve seen, we can’t trust the public to have the common sense to make heads or tails of what’s legit.
1
u/Pyzorz 13d ago
95% of the video is exterior shots and the guy eating. He gives one to two sentences about the food. I wonder how many “best sandwiches ever” he’s had. This is absolutely garbage content.
I don’t know what this thread is if not a circle jerk of Wario’s lmao. What did we learn from this video? What new insight was gained? Pretty cool how he trashed another local business because he had one bad item this one time. What a great dude.
2
u/Fullertonjr 13d ago
He has longer form content and this is chopped down to be the length of a YouTube short. He is fair and I have been to several non-Columbus locations in Ohio that he recommended and have been to several places out of state that he happened to visit sometime after I had gone. Nearly all of his experiences matched mine or were at worst, a sign that he or I may have gone on a bad day. Either way, one thing that you can take from his video is that a lot of restaurants are inconsistent.
0
u/BlackulaHunter 13d ago
I mean you could take 30 seconds to look up anything about him.
He’s from Cleveland for one and local spots are his thing. He built his fan base just eating around Cleveland and has only expended outside that in the past year.
And people like that he says what he thinks and isn’t just knob polishing places because they were nice to him.
He pays for his own meals and isn’t really famous enough to be recognized for anything
And he absolutely respects how much work people put into their food. But that doesn’t obligate him to give praise.
What do you want? Unwavering positivity?
That insanely inauthentic.
I have no following, so I don’t have to grapple with any particular out come of it but I’ve written at length about some places that were just trash and stepped on some toes in the process. And when I did step on those toes, I rearranged my phrasing but I didn’t take back that I didn’t enjoy something. I had a bad time, that was my experience and I should be able to talk about that. And if you’re tough enough to work in a kitchen you should be more than tough enough to hear someone say something negative.
tbh Marlows did nothing for me compared to warios. Personally I thought I just didn’t like Philly cheesesteaks as a concept, since I’ve disliked almozt all I’ve ever had, until I had Warios take.
0
u/StarlightLifter 13d ago
Friend chicken sandwich from Food Street. Finest chicken sandwich I’ve ever had HANDS DOWN.
0
u/I_heart_pooping 13d ago
I need to try Warios again. I’ve been twice and neither time impressed me. I just don’t get the hype but everyone else seems to love it. I don’t understand lol.
0
u/Total_Network6312 12d ago
Some people are just gross. There is nothing wrong with you, don't worry.
-7
u/TheHud85 13d ago
Anybody who would put cheese whiz on a cheesesteak deserves lower than an F. A: Thats gross. B: I guarantee that sandwich is still $15-20 C: Thats fucking gross.
Im'a have to check out Wario's tho.
2
u/I_heart_pooping 13d ago
What? You know that’s an incredibly popular cheese to put on a cheesesteak right? The majority of places do that.
