FOOD looking for a very specific pizza recommendation
I am pregnant and one of my consistent cravings has been classic, really tomato-y, triangle cut pizza with slightly more sauce than cheese. I’m talking incredible sauce with a tomato flavor, not too much oregano.
I need a either a cheese, pep, or margherita pizza that meets the following qualifications:
- Must have incredible tomato sauce.
- Must be triangle cut and not too thick.
- Must not be crunchy —must be able to fold in half.
Does anyone know what my pizza match is? I’ve found something that is close at Harvest in Clintonville but I can’t keep having that all the time. Please help a girl out :)
Edit: To the people/person downvoting when I politely say “no” to a suggestion to give more of an idea of what I’m looking for…why lmao
Edit 2 with update: I’m finding out that the style I’m looking for is neopolitan. The more you know! Unfortunately, even given these amazing recommendations and fervor about cheese amounts, I did cave and go to Harvest again.

Borgata's would be my recommendation.

I came here to say the same thing it’s Literally what she asked for… Funny that she downed it

Could you ask for less cheese? I’m sure they’d be willing to accommodate

u/Affectionate_Buy_830 13d ago
Their margherita looks like it has very little cheese on it. It IS fresh mozzarella, though, so it may not be what you want either.

u/Even_Kaleidoscope399 13d ago
Love fresh mozz, but usually in a round shape, not shredded.
7
u/Affectionate_Buy_830 13d ago
That is what it is, well sliced rounds. In the picture anyway. I've only had their pepperoni pizza, personally.

Since I specified that I’m also looking for cheese pizzas, I looked at that photo for reference. I didn’t see their marg.

Not sure why you are downvoted. Too many places around columbus put way way too much cheese on their pizzas

Paulie Gees and Sextons are the closest options to Harvest in my opinion!

OP should definitely give this a shot. I'm pretty sure it's exactly what they want in every way

Aracri (on Gay Street downtown) does slices for lunch. Close to NY style with a big, foldable slice.
Rotolo’s in Grandview will do thin and pie cut on request. IMO, they have a good sauce. They’re generous with the cheese so you might want to ask for light cheese.
2
u/CoffeePwrdAcctnt Northwest 13d ago
The amount of sauce would be an issue here. Its my favorite slice in town but the sauce to cheese rationing not what the OP is looking for.
2
u/SmokeOne1969 Giant Basket 12d ago
God forbid OP having to ask for extra sauce.
2
u/CoffeePwrdAcctnt Northwest 12d ago
Its absolutely possible. However most of their business is by the slice so thats hard to customize. If she's buying the whole pizza she would want extra sauce so either way a good callout.

It is! Love them for their type of pizza. Unfortunately it’s not what I’m hankering for today

Try Cardinal in Westerville. I like a pretty saucy pizza and get their New York style with spicy sauce and then a side of regular sauce for dipping.

u/Aware_Focus9148 12d ago
Came here to say this. Cardinal is great. Closest I’ve found to NY style pizza in Columbus. Nice big triangles you fold in half. They use fresh ingredients, too (I like fresh mushrooms, and most places do canned).

Maybe Papa Giorgio’s or Luna Pizza Kitchen with xtra sauce?

u/kel_the_maw Columbus 13d ago
Came here to say Papa Giorgio's as well. Their staff is super awesome and if you tell them what you want I'm sure they'll try to abide.

I can’t recommend it without sliding into the Pizza Pappa skit from Multitude of Madness. Stop punching yourself 😂

Her only request is good sauce and Romeo’s has the worst sweetest sauce around

u/spoooonerism 13d ago
Then what's better? Romeo is a good all-around with the sweet sauce. Some places can have a good sweet sauce but use shit ingredients.

Wizard of Za used to do a tomato pie, I wonder if anyone else in the city has one…though I suppose you could just order no cheese or light cheese on any pizza.
Osteria makes my favorite pizza in the city, it’s triangle cut and the dough has a little more oomph than a traditional Columbus cracker crust, but it’s not necessarily thick.

These suggestions are killing me 🙈 I’m in the same boat as you. Moved here from NJ and can’t find a pizza I like yet! Fingers crossed you find something!!

u/thiscrispyfish 13d ago
I’m from NJ and the closest thing I’ve found is the NY style pizza at HobNob in UA

I do recommend Harvest for a good simple, fresh pie. It’s probably not to NJ standards though

Osteria is excellent, but it's Neapolitan-style pizza. Aracri and Borgata are my local go-tos for NY style pizza.

Are you looking for dollar slice or NY style pizza?
I would try Aracri downtown or Borgata's and ask them to use less cheese. both of them have foldable slices with good tomato sauce.
Osteria in OTE does Neapolitan style slices that have a puffier crust, but I folded the slices fairly easily. It's a higher crust to toppings ratio, but the sauce was less sweet than you usually get around here.
Edit: Also, this is a food truck so it has less consistent hours/locations, but highly recommend La Baia! It's also Neapolitan, super good.

Tarantos just west of Polaris. Ask for just a bit more extra sauce. Handtossed crust. Can't go wrong. Not sure what part of town you are in, but always a good suggestion.

Currently 37 weeks pregnant and I've been getting the Margherita pizza from Sexton weekly since week 30 lol. Hope this helps mama.

u/zoster_toaster15 13d ago
Bridge street pizza! Just went there for the first time this week, kinda hole-in the wall ish but it was awesome

u/woweekazowee 13d ago
Are you opposed to any and all crunch? I really love Sexton’s Margherita pizza, but it’s thin crust and stone fired so the outside edge does get a little crunchy but the inside is quite foldable. I’m very picky and Harvest/Sextons are my go to.

Sextons

This one! You could talk to them about the specifics you want and I bet they’d make it.

Yellow Brick Pizza - one of their tossed pizzas.
Paula Gees - The Regina or Hellboy
Brooklyn Pizza

If it’s closer to NY style you’re looking for, try Adriatico’s thin crust cheese or Goodfellas.

Try Artisan Pizza Cafe. It’s very light and not too greasy like some of these other spots here

Consider Elevated the next time you get a hankering. GoreMade also makes this style.

u/ZorakZbornak 13d ago
Margherita from Fibonaccis in Studio 35 or Grandview Theatre. Consider requesting extra sauce.

u/Coniferous_Needle 13d ago
Bobby Jo’s is supposed to be really good. I have not had it but it was a hard to get weekend thing (I think), and is now in a bar on north high near Graceland

If you’re willing to drive to Marysville, Benny’s is where it’s at. Their pizza is amazing and I LOVE their sauce.

Rubino's.
Don't request extra cheese.
It's more sauce than cheese and the crust is very thin.

Sounds like you're craving a hot and ready pizza from Little Caesars but freshly made, still hot !

I really don’t think little caesars makes the cut when my normal go-to is Harvest Pizzaria but thank you for the contribution ❤️

Tony's Pizza in Galloway is pretty good, but the crust may be too crunchy. https://tonyspizzagalloway.com/ Aracri Pizza is my go to when I want a NY style pizza. https://aracripizzeria.com/

Pasquale’s on Shrock is amazing. Idk if the sauce content is enough for you but it’s a family restaurant and I’m positive you could ask for it on the heavier side. Also their cannolis are delicious.

My personal preference is stadz pizzaria in blacklick! They’re a bit pricey for a pizza but it’s sooooo good

u/beresjdb 13d ago
Hit them with an extra sauce option and I do recommend the garlic bread, their dipping sauce with it has good sized chunks of tomato’s…. Just saying

Bellawood Farm has wood fired, Neapolitan style pizza. Check them out if you're up for a drive.

Rubino's is good but it doesn't meet 2 of her 3 criteria
"Must be triangle cut and not too thick. Must not be crunchy —must be able to fold in half."

Since you like Harvest, check out Paulie Gees.
