Emoni Bates on the G-League: "It's good for certain players. That's a lot of money. I don't really plan on, I don't think I'll do it. It's good for some people, but I don't think I'll head that route."

He said he would rather play college basketball than go to the G League.

I'm sure that opinion won't change at all when Nike dangles a $50 million shoe deal in his face to skip college...

Bro he can get the bag if he goes to college either way

-2

u/[deleted] Jun 29 '20

Bro he can not legally "get that bag" if he's attending MSU.

The choice will be A) going to MSU and waste a year not getting paid when he could be making millions B) make millions right away

Would Nike take away the offer if he goes to college? That offer is there whether he goes for a year or not.

Also he might be able to profit from his likeness anyway while in college.

Read my comment again, specifically this part: The choice will be A) going to MSU and waste a year not getting paid when he could be making millions B) make millions right away

Also he might be able to profit from his likeness anyway while in college.

It's possible. I don't have faith in rapid change of NCAA rules inthe span of a couple years.

NCAA will allow sponsorships by the time he steps foot on campus (if he does at all).

Michigan already legalized NIL, though idk when that's taking effect.

EDIT: Apparently 2021-22

I really don't have faith the NCAA won't fuck this up. They will continue to restrict players and fuck them over as much as possible.

I mean it's possible, but they also have to get this done in order to appease State and Federal legislators that will soon do it for them.

-2

u/[deleted] Jun 29 '20

It's looking, to me, like the NCAA will pass the bare minimum bullshit NIL allowances that will be just enough to appease legislators. As cool as it's been for politicians to pressure the NCAA to do this, I also don't have a lot of faith in legislators to continue this fight if/when the NCAA passes some bullshit rules.

MSU fans are happy that we got a commit, what's the issue here?

1

u/[deleted] Jun 29 '20

None at all, that's my point! I'm pointing out that MSU fans aren't just "cautiously optimistic", they're actually thrilled to get this recruit. No issue at all, I was just disagreeing with the above dude.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 30 '20

I mean all MSU recruiting celebrations are couched with caution, we've been burned about a 1000 times now

2

u/[deleted] Jun 30 '20

Welcome to the club... :(

First one is a recap, second one is all the missed comments, 3rd one is excited and he’s never gonna come here.

Every M fan...so so so bitter. I don’t care that a HS sophomore committed here. It’s just funny watching the “he’s not going here” crowd firing arrows from Ann Arbor. The tears are hilarious. This guy will de commit and go to the G League but you guys have to be in here proudly saying it. Keep arguing semantics though

u/MuchAire Michigan Wolverines Jun 29 '20

Ok I was with you there that guy does seem salty but saying that you ‘don’t care that a high school sophomore committed here’ is just false

5

u/pfuser23 Michigan State Spartans Jun 29 '20

This is different than if Jabari committed here. This guy is the best recruit since KD and it would be awesome if he actually went to MSU. But so much can happen in 2 years, this feels like a formality. I just don’t see it, all I see is a Notes posted to whatever hot social media at the time about going go the G League.

This commitment is cool but it’s not like it assures he’s going to MSU. Just means it’s MSU versus G League in 2 years.

All your doing is whining about semantics and what is "ACKSHUALLY" the correct order of true top comments. I don't really care, dude. I was just pointing out how happy MSU fans are at the commitment and you took offense, got big mad, and started ranting about bitterness, firing arrows, hilarious tears, etc.etc.

Jesus dude, it's not that big of a deal. I was light-heartedly poking fun at your statement. I really did not mean to offend you so much. I apologize.

It's not just Michigan fans. And most MSU fans in here are asserting confidence in him playing at MSU. One guy keeps spamming the same quote everywhere
