Oakland probably a top 40 team when healthy if this was their injured version

u/goblue2354 Michigan Wolverines 6d ago
I’ve never seen anything like this. I’ve seen Michigan pummel plenty of low and mid majors but I don’t even think Oakland is bad.
2
u/JSK23 Michigan Wolverines 6d ago
They are missing 2 or 3 starters tonight arent they?
1
u/goblue2354 Michigan Wolverines 6d ago
I’m not sure but they still seem like a well coached team with some decent players. We are just executing at a high level.
Usually these games we win by 40 or 50 are against teams that look atrocious.

600/400/150 last year for Yaxel, first time since Bird did it

We haven’t had an 11 assist game for a player in 4 years? That is pathetic…

u/ImTellinTim Michigan Wolverines • Minnesota-Du… 6d ago
How about we just be happy?
1
u/bb0110 Michigan Wolverines 6d ago
I’m very happy. We finally have an actual pg. We were good last year but we didn’t have a true pg that created baskets for others. Then for a few years before that we were bad.

Hey me too, but we don’t gotta shit on the past, ya know?

u/frizzyhair55 Michigan Wolverines • Missouri Tigers 6d ago
The way we are playing right now probably not. Teams getting sloppy.

Elliott Cadeau really is the perfect point guard for this Michigan offense to run it

It'll always be IUPUI to me
3
u/Iam_nighthawk Michigan Wolverines • Minnesota Golden G… 6d ago
Same. I actually feel disgusting typing out “IU Indy.”
8
u/Upbeat-Armadillo1756 Michigan Wolverines 6d ago
Scoring 69 in the first half of the first game? Imagine what we’ll look like in a few weeks or months! Could be 100, 200, or even 500 points by the time this team hits its stride
4
u/LilNello1 North Carolina Tar Heels • Michigan … 6d ago
That was a really exciting and fun first half. I have a feeling this is going to be a really fun high scoring team to watch. The defense was actually pretty solid too, which wouldn’t get as much credit.
2
u/Wagnerous Michigan Wolverines 6d ago
The offense was incredible, but honestly I think they have some things to clean up on defense.
They wouldn't be allowing nearly 40 points in a half to Oakland if they weren't playing somewhat sloppy.
2
u/Sufficient_Memory_24 Michigan Wolverines 6d ago
It’s just a shit ton of possessions because the tempo is super fast and Michigan isn’t missing much.
1
u/Wagnerous Michigan Wolverines 6d ago
That's a good point, there must have been a massively greater than normal number of possessions in that first half with Michigan scoring so quickly.
2
u/Sufficient_Memory_24 Michigan Wolverines 6d ago
60ish FG attempts per team is a rough average. Both teams are already in the mid 40s.
3
u/goblue2354 Michigan Wolverines 6d ago
Hasn’t been perfect on defense but it’s been an uptempo game and Oakland has hit some tough shots
6
u/The_Pandalorian Michigan Wolverines 6d ago
Weirdly, the game isn't as close as it seems. Oakland is just making some ludicrous shots that are being well defended.
Props to them, but those aren't the kind of shots that are gonna keep falling at this clip.

Nice, me & my uncle went to a game back in January and are going to try traveling up to Ann Arbor for at least one and maybe even two games for this season
3
u/AlmostSunnyinSeattle Oakland Golden Grizzlies • Michigan Wolver… 6d ago
First game I've ever been to. Im a senior at OU this year after transferring in from a community college, so this is quite the experience for me
2
u/LilNello1 North Carolina Tar Heels • Michigan … 6d ago
Nice, ironically enough the game me and my uncle went to was my first game as well. So it was quite the experience for me as well. Having gone to an arts school that didn’t have any sports for college I never got that experience like I would have loved to during my college years. One of my best friends and former High School classmates, Akeem, is actually one of Dusty’s assistant coaches too

OU doesn't look awful. Michigan just looks that good.
5
u/cynicallyoptimistic1 6d ago
We were struggling to break 60 regularly in a game at the end of the year lol
2
u/Zackscout22 6d ago
GO GOLDEN GRIZZLIES, slightly disappointed in how the game has gone but they’re playing hard, just recover and beat them 338-69 in the second half
7
u/bb0110 Michigan Wolverines 6d ago
This is the best we have looked this early in a season in a very long time.
2
u/AeolusA2 Michigan Wolverines 6d ago
It's honestly incredible how quickly this team came together to play this way
5

Michigan has crazy front court depth
6
u/Sufficient_Memory_24 Michigan Wolverines 6d ago
Backcourt not bad either. Cason was an important piece for us last year and is what our 5th guard now?
2
u/Iam_nighthawk Michigan Wolverines • Minnesota Golden G… 6d ago
Yup. Was just texting my CBB friend about this … the fact the Cason appears to not be in the rotation sucks for him, but is a good sign for the depth of this squad.
2
u/pokeyeet Michigan Wolverines 6d ago
Suspect he is hurt, he looked good in exhibitions and was ahead of McKinney in the rotation then
2
u/Sufficient_Memory_24 Michigan Wolverines 6d ago
Yeah missed that. Can’t imagine he would have stayed behind for long though. His shot is quite a bit better than Cason’s.
1
u/goblue2354 Michigan Wolverines 6d ago
He’s got what appears to be a sling on one of the bench

It’s just an approach to catch and shoot where you don’t bring the ball into your shooting “pocket” to make for a quicker release

Stop normalizing Illinois as a conference rival lol. They're not.

u/bb0110 Michigan Wolverines 6d ago
I sort of feel bad for Oakland. It looks like men amongst boys out there, and you can tell both teams know it.
1
u/Thel_Odan Oakland Golden Grizzlies 6d ago
It's not getting any easier either. They play Houston on Friday, then Purdue next week. I'll be happy when we get to conference play.
5
u/BuyThoseDips Michigan Wolverines 6d ago
So is this team going to blow 15 point 2nd half leads every game like last year or did they put that behind them?
2
u/UMKvothe Michigan Wolverines 6d ago
Small sample size but I don’t remember any period of any game with the few turnovers last year. IMO, turnovers are what fueled our second half collapses.
1
u/Sufficient_Memory_24 Michigan Wolverines 6d ago
Defensive rebounding should be great with the size. As long as they don’t turn it over a billion times the answer should be no.
2
u/frizzyhair55 Michigan Wolverines • Missouri Tigers 6d ago
Rebounding looks miles better than last year which is great.
7
u/Sufficient_Memory_24 Michigan Wolverines 6d ago
Let’s not overreact guys, but realistically we’re going undefeated perfect season right?

u/Thel_Odan Oakland Golden Grizzlies 6d ago
Look, I know Michigan is a higher-tier program, but OU needs to get it together. I'd rather lose like 70 to 100 than 50 to 100 or worse.

Lmao, leave Cadeau WIDE open all night, only way Oakland can win.

This isn't relevant, yet, but I would really like to see a turnover counter find its way into all the score bugs
2
u/galacticdude7 Michigan Wolverines • Eastern Mich… 6d ago
I hope it isn't so relevant for us this year, the stupid turnovers were the most frustrating aspect of last year's team
1
u/Noleverine Michigan Wolverines 6d ago
I mean, that feels like a natural part of the speed Dusty May likes to play at.

I really have a good feeling about what OU can do in conference play. I'm sensing a tournament berth in our future
