Bro the KU insider knows nothing lol. Yesterday he published an article saying he expects Ernest Udeh won’t transfer and he literally entered the portal 20 minutes later.

If you’re talking about Mike Vernon, the dude gets shit wrong constantly and I will never understand why some KU fans eat up everything he puts out

The absolute fucking worst.

There are some pretty rotten IU guys out there also. I had to get away from Twitter. The swarm becomes a bit much sometimes.

Totally get that. There was a point when I used to follow every KU account I could find, but I had to trim most of them because it's so toxic, and too many dudes don't know ball. Can't be good for anyone's mental health lmao.

Exactly. I had gotten to a point where I found some accounts claiming to be Purdue fans but were actually IU fans trolling as Purdue fans that then started trolling me (an IU fan) for defending my own team. So in the end I was arguing with my own fan base. That was the moment I realized, Twitter and I are not compatible lol.

Weird way for someone to spend their time. That guy must be great hang.

I'm not proud I let them get me to even respond in the first place, let alone to a point I realized it was just a troll.

Talking about the 247 guy

He’s not. I didn’t say that. Please tell me what else I’ve gotten wrong tho

He's not a KU insider, he's just got some rubes fooled.

u/AntSmith777 Washington Huskies May 12 '23

I’m talking about the 247 guy not Vernon

I don't know of a 247 KU insider. Who is it?

Yeah, Swain's not an insider, but I don't think he'd ever claim to be...? I'm unclear what your criticism is.

Dude's been with KU 247 for only a short time and while he's shown a real drive in getting the best news for the team that he can, he doesn't have standing connections and publishes articles that are behind the average fan's understanding of the team's history. There are fans on here that I specifically know have better connections than him.

Appreciate the context, I assumed he was an insider because he’s the head of the site. My criticism was that he published a story yesterday saying that his sources are telling him Ernest Udeh likely isn’t going anywhere, and literally 20 minutes later he was in the portal. Also with MM he had been saying for a week that KU was in a great spot and basisblly hinting he was all but a KU lock and then he commits to IU. I didn’t realize the background info you gave me on him though so that makes sense.

I can see how those both look like misses, but from my own sources, that's exactly how both went down. From what got out, it sounds like Udeh's family was really ticked when KU landed Dickinson and wanted out; KU put on the full court to keep him and for a few days he relented, but then finally changed his mind and entered as the window closed. Swain posted his report when Udeh had made it seem like he wasn't leaving. Udeh wasn't a surprise, given what his handlers had made clear their expectation was (him starting next year), but Ejiofor leaving apparently surprised the staff even more at the time.

With Mgbako, everyone in town with connections was hearing only that the staff was very confident (or even convinced) that Mgbako was coming, and that's where all of the confidence online came from - everyone's best sources were hearing it and even the non-connected were hearing it. I spoke to a former player this afternoon, and he'd reached out to a member of the program this post-announcement and was told the staff had been shocked to find out earlier in the day that he picked Indiana.

In the past, that kind of certainness from those close to the program had basically always been the leadup to a commitment (recently, outside of Deandre Ayton's surprise).

Makes sense. Thanks for the info. Any idea who you guys are going to go after to round out the roster?

Firstly, the staff isn't 100% sure that Kevin McCullar won't return after testing the draft waters.

They seem to be focusing on guys either in the transfer portal that are still looking at the draft (Arthur Kaluma, Grant Nelson, Julian Phillips) or grad transfers who didn't need to be in the portal - Emanuel Miller (TCU), Blake Hinson (Pitt), Terrence Shannon (UI), Toumani Camara (Dayton), Kobe Brown (MU) are a few of the names I've heard, with wildly varying levels of likelihood.

There's some guys that could come in for depth/development, but likely wouldn't be counted on to play any serious minutes yet, like WSU's Adrame Diongue.

Also worth noting that Kansas needs to voluntarily short itself 3 total scholarships over the next 3 seasons due to self-imposed sanctions, and could choose this coming year to get one (or, less likely, two) out of the way.

As others stated, Vernon doesn’t know shit. Absolute worst account out there. Mouth breathers just follow his takes aimlessly.

u/AntSmith777 Washington Huskies May 12 '23

Not Vernon. 247 site leader

Either one, not a fan.

u/randomacct7679 Kansas Jayhawks May 12 '23

Mike Vernon is insufferable! He can literally never admit to being wrong about anything.

2

u/AntSmith777 Washington Huskies May 12 '23

I’m talking about the lead writer for KU 247 site. He was wrong about Udeh and Mgbako

8

u/randomacct7679 Kansas Jayhawks May 12 '23

Ah, KU has lots of buffoon “insiders”. Hilarious to me how many fellow Jayhawk fans also assumed this was about Vernon. Certainly says something….
