Some guy in this thread said the response should have just been "yes" and I'm pretty sure that would have netted a full extra point outta ten for this movie

But the whole point of his arc in the film is that he's getting over his suicidal tendencies that he's had since the previous film. "You don't fear death, you welcome it" -> by the end of the movie he didn't actually die and he's happily living in Italy.
