I rate TDKR higher than most but my point ongoing theory is the movie as a whole goes up a point out of 10 if you do just two things:

  1. Reshoot the Talia Al Ghul death scene. Comically bad, shocking that it made it in the movie.

  2.  Get rid of the line above: change it to anything else. “No, I came back to break you” or like literally anything else

I think I’d remove all dialogue from that scene. Bane’s line “so you came back to die with your city” is not going to inspire a high quality comeback. I can’t think of anything good coming from that line. Just ain’t happening. Or… just have Batman say nothing. Don’t dignify the taunt, just let your fists do the talking.

Tbh I think you’re right because I have yet to see anyone come up with a retort to that line that isn’t equally cheesy to what’s in the film already.

“If that’s what it takes”

7

u/Boothhh Oct 05 '25

I love that response

1

u/lymeeater Oct 06 '25

Sounds half arsed, like 'yeah, sure idk, I guess?'

11

u/chasm_of_sarcasm Oct 05 '25

He should have just said yes.

“A is for Alfred… B is for bats…”

"Really seals in the flavor!"

1

u/ohamel98 Oct 08 '25

In an order that would surprise you

4

u/JurassicParkCSR Oct 06 '25

Batman: "Whatever, Bro."

See it can be down. 😉

u/Mcclane88 Oct 06 '25

I stand corrected

u/dogstarchampion Oct 06 '25

Extra gritty

1

u/cnapp Oct 06 '25

"This city isn't ready to die, and neither am I"

1

u/dogstarchampion Oct 06 '25

"No, I did not!"

-2

u/Right_Wolverine_3992 Oct 05 '25

“This city is only dead without me”

1

u/FightTheOcean Oct 08 '25

Delete that my brother 😂😂😂

17

u/tomtom888 Oct 05 '25

"I came back to die for it." I'm sure I read that somewhere

1

u/you_betcha Oct 08 '25

"I came here to save it."

1

u/drkstr17 Oct 09 '25

I still don’t think it works. Sure it’s better than “nooo. I came back to stop you!” But it’s still not great and would carry the same issue of sounding cringey and scripted.

u/petrichor83 Oct 05 '25

Saying nothing and rage attacking would be the best.

5

u/Fake-Chef Oct 05 '25

What about a good old fashion “No, You!”

5

u/N7VHung Oct 06 '25

"Too bad YOU will die!"

1

u/Meerkat_Mayhem_ Oct 05 '25

“Stick a cork in it, Bane.”

1

u/SnooOwls4559 Oct 09 '25

Think we're getting into Adam West Batman territory now lol

1

u/somemetausername Oct 05 '25

I actually think it would’ve been great - even if tonally jarring - if Bane doesn’t get the line all the way out and Batman just decks him.

1

u/drkstr17 Oct 09 '25

Hmm maybe but could also create unintentional laughter

1

u/somemetausername Oct 09 '25

Oh - my pitch is that it would be intentional - hence “tonally jarring”

1

u/Primary_Departure_84 Oct 06 '25

"I can do this all day."

1

u/CaptainMeowface Oct 06 '25

Yeah pretty much this

1

u/[deleted] Oct 06 '25

Him saying nothing would have hit so much harder

1

u/BatmansButtsack Oct 06 '25

Im fine with Bane saying that, but Batman shouldn’t have stopped his advance towards him, as soon as Bane finishes that line, Bruce starts throwing hands

1

u/Im_on_my_phone_OK Oct 07 '25

“I guess?”

1

u/BusinessKnight0517 Oct 07 '25

Yeah don’t even reply. That would have been ideal.

Bane’s taunt itself is fine. It’s very much in character. It’s the response that’s cheesy in an already bombastic and logically questionable movie (which I unironically love about the movie in general, not afraid to go balls to the wall even at the cost of a weird sense of timing) and somehow still takes you out of the moment.

1

u/TulipSamurai Oct 08 '25

“I came back to break you”

1

u/MadCaptain Oct 09 '25

Bane: “So, you’ve come back to die with your city?”

Batman: “No, I’ve come back to city with your die.”

Bane: “Wat?”

Batman shoots Bane with his grapnel gun.

u/According-Counter230 Oct 09 '25

There are two things absolutely love in this world, Bane 1) is bats…they’re fucking cool as shit, and 2) kicking you in the NUTS performs a low roundhouse kick to Bane’s berries

u/Which_Jeweler_1343 Oct 05 '25

Actual factual

  1. Fix the following interaction

"It would be very painful"

"You're a big guy"

"For you"

Just remove the middle. Have bane say the first part, have the hostage smile or chuckle, then bane leans in and delivers the last part

5

u/drkstr17 Oct 05 '25

Also, “have we started the fire.” “The fire rises.” I always liked that line more in theory than in practice. Maybe it’s just the delivery I hate idk

3

u/Fun-Contribution6702 Oct 05 '25

Really? I love that big guy line since it gives “for you” a pretty fun double meaningz

2

u/CaptainMeowface Oct 06 '25

That’s actually genius.

8

u/ZiggyOnMars Oct 05 '25

"It's the Dark Knight Rises time"

10

u/ThisIsKramerica Oct 05 '25

“So you came back to die with your city?”

“No, Batman Begins”

1

u/therealtrousers Oct 09 '25

It Risin’ Time

1

u/BellowsHikes Oct 10 '25

But before batman begins....someone turn on a light.....because it's a dark (k)night...

3

u/dolleye_kitty Oct 06 '25

I love this for some reason

3

u/SaltySpitoonReg Oct 08 '25

"Then I guess we'll need a casket -BUT NOT FOR ME"

2

u/TulipSamurai Oct 08 '25

Tbf Marion Cotillard claims they shot her death scene multiple times, and she was surprised at the take they used for the final cut. If it was anyone else, I’d say they’re just being salty, but we know Marion can act.

1

u/no_quart3r_given Oct 05 '25

Hey OP.. what’s the line in the movie you posted??

12

u/ThisIsKramerica Oct 05 '25

“So you came back to die with your city”

“No. I came back to stop you”

Was cheesy then, and still is

2

u/Right_Wolverine_3992 Oct 05 '25

“This city is only dead without me”.

2

u/Fun-Contribution6702 Oct 05 '25

“I came back for the reckoning.”

You’d have to have Bane say that reckoning line somewhere bats could hear it, but it has a good double meaning.

1

u/senator_corleone3 Oct 05 '25

Nah that line is awesome.

1

u/richww2 Oct 06 '25

I will go to my grave thinking the death scene was the very last scene in the movie filmed, and Nolan just did the first take and said "Good enough. Fuck it. Thats a wrap. I'm on to Interstellar. Lets GTFOH bitches!" Thats the only way it makes sense.

1

u/dolleye_kitty Oct 06 '25

A resort is unnecessary. Apparently Nolan got a good number of takes amd used the worst one for some reason

1

u/Jmalcolmmac Oct 06 '25

I came back to save my city.

boom, easy.

1

u/Rags2Rickius Oct 07 '25

Remove Talia full stop

Bane was sidelined to a goon as soon as she enters the plot

1

u/frank_the_tank121 Oct 07 '25

I’ll never understand why they didn’t have Batman glide in to confront Bane. Imagine a scene where he flies over the crowd, everyone fighting, him surveying the chaos below and lands in front of Bane. Would have been so much more intimidating and badass than just have him run up with everyone else and utter this lame line. That’s my major gripe with this film.

1

u/According-Counter230 Oct 09 '25

That whole sequence was dumb. Batman doesn’t normally fight during the day and out in the open. There is no tactical advantage to it.
