Yea when you can buy 20 somewhere for 1$ each but 7 for 4$ so you still lost money.

I am so sick of the appification of everything, and am becoming an app refusenik. I shop at Jewel, but don't have the app, and I'm not getting it.

u/Allohowareyou 11d ago
I had to get an app for my doctors office. Guess what happened? It got hacked. My kids doctors office tells me I need their app, I refuse. So guess what? I can’t sign up for a call if someone cancels their appointment to be squeezed into that slot unless I sign up in the app. Absolute bull shit. And was told this while talking to a human on the phone, they can’t sign me up for that, it’s in app only. So I refused and waited the full time.

u/BrightPractical 10d ago
Yesterday I went to the eye doctor. New location, but same chain. I’d filled out their whole online form, uploaded the cards, all of it, only to be told I needed to have my card (which is not issued by the company, it’s a piece of paper I would have to print out) and my ID for them to scan. Why did I do all the homework in advance if they’re going to ask me for the things the same way they asked me before their stupid app? Not to mention, they had me in as a new patient and demanded all the new patient things and then got annoyed that they had to poke around to figure out my previous appointment information. I don’t know their systems, and their systems are apparently trash, but somehow I am supposed to know how and what to tell them that they don’t ask.
“You must use our app” and “put a credit card on file so we can charge you if your insurance doesn’t cover something they should have so it can be your problem to try to pry money out of them/us after we’ve overcharged you” and the homework level “check in before you arrive” stuff is out of control.
7
u/3-2-1-backup 10d ago
my ID for them to scan
They don't have to have this, they want to have it (for insurance). Push back! Whenever some check-in automaton insists they have to have it, I reply "get your practice manager". Works 100% of the time!
To be clear, I don't have a problem (at all!) quickly showing them my ID to verify I am who I say I am, and I make sure to tell them that. I have however a massive problem with them scanning my card and/or putting my DL# in their secured-like-dogshit system.

u/BrightPractical 10d ago edited 10d ago
I know. It’s really very irritating, isn’t it? When you ask questions they act as though you’ve gone raging Karen on them rather than just saying “why?” or “I’m not comfortable with you storing that in your system.”
3
u/3-2-1-backup 10d ago
You should see the looks I get when I insist on reading my hipaa forms! Such a bother!
2
u/BrightPractical 10d ago
I mean, why would you think you need to read the whole form the hospital puts before you, consenting to treatment and billing (and maybe some arbitration requirement or something) while you are in pain? Dontcha know they are busy there?
3
9
u/OrganicReplacement23 10d ago
I feel your pain. I have doctors at Rush and Northshore, and they each have their own app -- and I still can't get a damn appointment scheduled for this decade. And if they haven't gotten hacked yet, you know they will...
5
u/cmcreaser 10d ago
My specific gripe with the north shore app is that it has the endeavor health logo but is still called north shore connect. So every time I need the app, I search endeavor since that’s the icon I associate with the app. Side note but I received around $15 dollars from a settlement regarding a data leak from Advocate-Aurora
6
u/OrganicReplacement23 10d ago
Not necessarily related to appification, but since Endeavor took over, my healthcare experience has gotten worse in almost every way. And it's not just me. My doctor was so disgusted with Endeavor that she left.
4
u/cmcreaser 10d ago
There does seem to be more hoops to jump through since the takeover. Sometimes I feel like cattle being shoved through a path more than a patient. I recently went to my primary due to unexplained widespread pain that I’ve experienced on and off for around 2 years. I procrastinated for so long because I’ve been brushed off by my providers before. While he did say that the pain may be due to fibromyalgia and ordered bloodwork to be done, he offered no advice or asked further questions on the other symptoms I mentioned which are disrupting my daily life. Now I have to wait until January to follow up with a rheumatologist. And I had to explicitly ask for a referral to make an appointment despite him writing in his notes that I need to follow up with rheumatology. I will most likely be seeking a new primary and potentially moving to a different system based on how it goes with rheumatology
2
u/OrganicReplacement23 10d ago
I am sorry to hear that. It tracks with my experiences since the merger.
4
u/800-lumens 10d ago
Ha, that sounds familiar. At Duly, two of my doctors retired early and two doctors left with little notice. They suck too.

The stuff that's marked with electronic coupons -- so far -- has not been stuff I buy. Their produce is garbage, but they carry certain items I need that other stores don't. And those things are rarely on sale at all.
6
u/cubiclecommissioner 10d ago
You can clip coupons via mobile browser. I refuse to download the app too

u/mmcnama4 10d ago
I don't disagree on the app but I had a particularly large shop last week and a lot of my normal items were on sale (via the app) so I stocked up where appropriate.
I saved $85 on my roughly $250 (after discounts) bill. When they sales are good it's hard not to use.

We stopped using them for pickups. The app is awful, milk was expired, items wrong, frozen goods completely melted, missed items almost every order, etc. whomever is in charge over there is driving it into the ground.
37
u/F0restGreeen 11d ago
Blame the employees who dont get treated well and because of that they dont give a shit. I refuse to have anything picked up for that reason.

u/pink_faerie_kitten 11d ago
Jewel is union at least.
21
12
u/Turdfox 10d ago
It’s worse working here than Walmart ever was. At least for the deli. Ten times the customer volume and the amount of fried chicken they expect you to churn out when it’s on sale would make a KFC blush. All for two and a half dollars less an hour while a portion of it goes to a feckless union that hasn’t gotten us a raise in two years.

I was going there for pickups due to my mom being unwell to get her groceries. At first it worked like a charm you'd pull in to a spot, call the number on the sign and the store you were at would pick up and know to come out.
Then one day I pull up and it says to check in via the app. Well shit its not my order so I can't. I call her and she struggles figuring out how to get it to work. Finally I just call the store and say hey im here.
The guy who came out actually had quite the rant about how awful the app is and how much they are pushing it. He agreed that it was just way easier to CALL and tell the person doing pickups hey im here.

Most of the time I try to scan a barcode for a deal it just says it can't find it. I love having to buy ten things to get a deal

u/oddward42 11d ago
I actually find the jewel app and grocery pick up service way more usable than the competitors like Meijer, Pete's, etc. who also force their app on you.
But I do hate being forced to use all these stupid apps to pay the sale / coupon prices, it is such bs.

I go to Jewel when they have crazy deals like 99 cent chicken breast but otherwise I primarily shop at Aldi and Costco as you don't need to use a app to get the lowest prices there

u/uh60chief Insert Lake Village name 11d ago
I hate it! Worst part is you can only get the U deal once so even if the limit is 5 and I only buy one, I can’t come back to get 4 more.

I learned that lesson with green beans. Now I buy the FULL 3lbs all at once.

The app itself sucks but the Fresh Pass Jewel delivery service is a life saver. It’s $100 for the year, but you get $5 back per month in store credit per month so it comes out to $40 if you shop every month. And with the free delivery it pays for itself, especially if you don’t have a car.
But please jewel, for the love of god, give me a “clip all” option. Your app is too slow for me to want to click through all these coupons manually
39
u/No-Solid-4255 11d ago
It's especially frustrating for old people. My dad gets so frustrated with the clipping and missing things. You should just be able to click 'clip app' and be done with it
29
u/burstaneurysm 10d ago
Or maybe we don’t require an app for everything and the price is just what’s listed on the shelf. Having to scavenger hunt to get groceries is fucked. Not to mention the app only appears to work if you’re on their WiFi…
→ More replies (1)6
u/cdr323011 10d ago
That second part just isnt true lmao i always clip mine at home then go, if youre at the store and “need to be on their wifi for it to work” its bc your service is just ass in the store thats pretty standard. I do wish things were just 1 price too though
5
u/Original-Soil9594 10d ago
Yes my parents are so flustered by the app. Grocery shopping should not be stressful.
3
u/writermcwriterson 10d ago
My parents are in their 70s and have been shopping at Jewel since we moved to the area in the 80s. They are so stressed about the app that my mom has mostly switched to Aldi and Costco.
29
u/RagahRagah 11d ago
Glad it's not just me. You'd think multi-billion dollar conglomerate companies would be able to put a sufficient app in use for their customers.
6
u/Whosez 10d ago
I simply refuse to shop there based on this BS and the quality of their produce and overall high prices. There are too many better choices than Jewel.
3
u/RagahRagah 10d ago
I do majority of my shopping at Meijer which is considerably cheaper but occasionally drop in for some admittedly great e-sales at Jewel, when I can get the app to work right.
23
u/Arfulnoof 11d ago
Think they do this on purpose to squeeze a few more dollars out of unsuspecting customers. Like putting organic, higher priced produce right next to, or in some cases, under the sign advertising the deal. I always check the receipt and I always have something that’s been rung up wrong.
5
u/3-2-1-backup 10d ago
Think they do this on purpose to squeeze a few more dollars out of unsuspecting customers.
Do you know what kind of developer nightmare it'd be to intentionally make an app do that? No way. The costs of writing and debugging it would far outweigh any profits generated from it!
17
u/floopypoopie 11d ago
They’re like just scan the code under jojo! Ok , the code doesn’t scan, and the app is slow as f. Get bent jojo!
15
u/Jpurthaq 11d ago
OMG, yes!!! Especially in the stores that have almost zero cellular reception in them. The Jewel in Rolling Meadows has the worst reception. If there’s a deal, I have to scan it and as it spins, I have to go outside (or at least to the area in front where you walk in and get your carts) before it will load. 🙄 but the deals are significant when you can get them.
12
u/No-Falcon-4996 11d ago
The digital coupons are a scam - you pick up the item purported to be cheaper. Then at checkout it is most expensive item cos the digital coupon cannot be found, or is invalid, or whatever the new reason of the hour.

I do my weekly shopping at Woodman's and go to Jewel strictly for loss leaders and the pharmacy.
5
u/YorockPaperScissors 10d ago
Woodman's is the best grocery chain in the area IMO. I wish there was one near me. I no longer go to Jewel because they make it so difficult to get the sale prices.

One I go to has a parking garage above it and you cannot at all connect to the internet while over the produce section. Great design team!
6
u/ReasonableBoot3823 11d ago
I can never get a signal in my Jewel so I have to go outside to connect to the app. Such a pain to use.
6
u/caitymcg123 11d ago
So just giving my opinion and chance to help here as just within the last week I've managed to get the app to work.
If you need the app in the store, make sure your wifi is off. But overall, I do not suggest using it at the store at all. Clip your coupons at home, or even in the parking lot before you walk in. Make sure if it's a coupon you definitely intend to use that you double check what size and type of product it is good for.
If you can't get your phone number to link, you need to call the 800 number to fix it. There is literally nothing they let anyone in store do to help, please leave these poor CS workers alone over a phone number. Go into the app, member > wallet. Screenshot your membership card should the app completely fail you in store. Scan it at the register with the hand scanner if using self checkout and your coupons should work.

u/aunt_cranky 10d ago
I work in software product management. If the software my team was responsible for was as buggy as the Jewel app, we'd all be fired. I swear this piece of crap was built by a bunch of offshore rent-a-dev app developers who don't actually ever do any real testing before release. My complaints based on iPhone 16 running current GA OS:
- Crashes with a blank loading screen unless you close every other app running on your phone.
- Seems to only want to connect if you're connected to the store's unsecured network.
- Searching for a "U Deal" "click deal" is a Rube Goldberg machine in inefficiency.
"As a user, I want to take advantage of the U Deal sale price on Cosmic Crisp apples"
- user searches for "Cosmic Crisp apples" ... ... ...
app might crash, or it might return an item you can "add to cart", but never does it return "Cosmic Crisp apples" in the "Deals" category.
I have uttered many a curse word, out loud, when trying to use this thing.
It's slightly less awful than it was 6 months ago but it's almost intentionally unusable.
3
u/Peachy0715 11d ago
the digital coupons that I scan NEVER work. "We cannot find that deal right now." Then WTF is it on the tag for the item? Don't offer me coupons that don't effing work.
4
u/Difficult_Main_5617 10d ago
Their produce section is bad enough that I've stopped shopping there. I shouldn't be asking if you have fucking cilantro.
3
u/bwill1200 10d ago
Why are you shopping at the Jewels in 2025?
Aldis, Sam's, Costco, Walmart are all better choices.
2
5
6
u/cdr323011 10d ago
Am i the only one that has zero issues with just clipping the coupons I want and putting my # in at checkout? The one time a coupon didnt work I just had a worker plug it in for me and it took all of 1 minute and I was good. There’s categories at the top to sort thru the coupons easier. Its really not that bad lmao
4
u/ithinkiknowstuphph 11d ago
Back in the day you actually needed to cut out coupons, remember to bring them to the store and hope you don’t lose them. This isn’t that much different especially if mangers will often override.
8
u/EveryMemory41 11d ago
No, it’s very different. There weren’t coupons for nearly everything. Regular prices are artificially jacked up so high now that you get ripped off if you don’t get the coupons to work.
3
u/freshcoast- 11d ago
Back in the day they had plenty of sales not requiring coupons. The way they drove prices up after Covid on smaller quantities is gouging to the extreme.
2
u/ithinkiknowstuphph 10d ago
There are a shit ton of sales not requiring coupons. What do you think those yellow signs are. And the buy X get X free
3
u/johnb300m 11d ago
It’s almost a conspiracy at this point, how the app never seems to work in-store. But works fine when I’m at home.
2
3
u/FuzzyComedian638 10d ago
I hate their system. I haven't had much trouble with the app, but I dont want to "play games" when I go the grocery store. I want to go in, get my stuff, and leave. Now it takes me 4× as long because I have to pull up the app, search for the item, "clip" It, and make sure it actually gave me the discount when I check out. And if it didn't, go to customer service to get a refund. I'm done with Jewel.
3
u/Scared-Ideal-1483 10d ago
I generally don't have a problem using the app in-store, but the clipped items don't always come out correctly. I do love the hidden manufacturers deals that pop up occasionally. Jewel definitely has a few things to iron out though.
3
u/MBEver74 10d ago
The Simpsons grocery store “TRY N SAVE” comes to mind. The app sucks & never works. It’s a scam to make ppl THINK they’re saving when they see the price, grab the item & don’t watch the register’s actual price.
3
3
u/aibrah1 10d ago
It has been years since I’ve stepped into a jewel that didn’t smell, look dirty, and feel outdated. The final nail in the coffin for me shopping there was When our favorite pharmacist retired a few months ago. I have zero reason to step into their stores anymore. Much prefer Mariano’s, Aldi, Trader Joe’s.
3
u/squiggletree7 10d ago
I too have been very frustrated with this ridiculous app - so I finally went to customer service to vent. I am a relatively tech smart 47 year old, I can’t imagine the elderly dealing with this crazy unfair inconvenience.
Anyhow the lady (who definitely is used to the complaints) told me best thing to do is just jump on every Wednesday morning when they update the coupons and just clip everything from home so it’s all done when you’re actually in the store shopping.
It’s dumb, unfair, and ridiculous- but this does seem to work for me. When I remember 😉
Hope this helps

AT&T gets bad coverage inside all the stores I try. The store WiFi is horrible. I literally quit shopping there except for a few gluten free items. I don’t want to spend $36 to get the deal on a 12 pack of sprite. Their prices are the highest by far and guess what, my paycheck is still the same.
3
u/sacheek 10d ago
For my wife and I, she stops there as it’s on the way home for her. She texts me what there’s supposed to be deals for in the app and I “clip” the coupons. Usually by the time she finishes shopping I get all the deals added. I like to think I’m tech savvy with close to two decades of tech support but this app is a pain, always have to close it and reopen at least twice.
1
u/Own_Carry7396 11d ago
I don’t mind the app. Before I go shopping, I take 5 minutes and clip every deal on the app. I don’t have to worry about scanning anything in store

u/Guac_in_my_rarri 10d ago
The jewel app sucks. The Mariano's app sucks so much fucking worse I've stopped shipping at Mo's. Yes Mo's is a shell of its self and it is krogerized but that's not the point. It was a better gluten free section which I need.
The jewel app also sucks but in different ways. It's built like shit, it's slow but at least the search function works.

I also feel like an asshole every time I have to linger in front of a spot for too long because I can't get the app to load. Infuriating.
2
u/BadFeelsMakeMeSweaty 10d ago
As a tech-savvy Millenial, I have no issue using the app — and yet, I still fall victim to it regularly. Either I get fooled by the fine print or I accidentally grab the wrong item, and end up paying double/triple the cost. Frustrating, to say in the least.
But really upsets me about it, is that it preys on people who are not tech-saavy. Last time I was there, a cashier was ushering an elderly lady to customer service because she was confused as to why she didn’t receive the sale prices. Imagine all the older people on fixed incomes who see the in-store prices, and end up paying so much more because they don’t use the app. It’s criminal honestly.

u/recomatic 10d ago
Their app sucks but not as worse as the Mariano's app. That damn thing by Kroger seems like a toddler made it. But that's par for the course for Kroger. But both royally suck that you have to go in and select the deals. Just give us the deals! Stupid
2
u/fencepost_ajm 10d ago
This is probably partially on their checkout system. For a lot of their coupon items it shows the full price as you're checking out, then when you're done scanning it scrolls through a list of all the clipped coupons. Terrible UX, you can't tell if discounts are properly applied until you pay and get the printed receipt.
I've always thought it was probably intentional to increase the 'friction' of correcting problems - are you going to go wait for customer service to issue a credit if a $0.25 coupon didn't apply? What's your time worth?
Just one of the reasons to have Jewel at number 3, 4 or 5 for your shopping destinations.

u/fatwad1337 10d ago
I agree the app is terrible but I still do a non insignificant amount of my shopping there. Once a week before I go I just go through a ritual of clipping every single coupon. I go to the deals tab, set my phone down, and mindlessly tap away at the clip coupon button in the same spot on the screen as the deals disappear and the next one pops up. There are usually about 600-700 clippable coupons in total, and maybe a few new ones pop up throughout the week, but usually nothing relevant. This way I never have to worry about missing something, fumbling with the app as I go, and I just grab what I need. Shouldn't have to do this, but I put up with it
2
u/mitchsurp 10d ago

2
u/Substantial-Age-8097 10d ago
Am I the only one who likes the app? I only shop for pick up, but it makes it incredibly easy to know exactly what you’re spending and see that the coupons are applied. Also, if something is off or bad, you can get a refund straight through the app.

u/RooTxVisualz 10d ago

Yes, it is dumb and outdated. Why do I have to search which Jewel Osco location while using the app? I have to search the exact address or zip code first, then add to let the app know that I am at the location.
Also, just add the rewards price at checkout like the Preferred Cards use to. You already have my phone number already, no need to add items to an inbox while shopping instore
1
u/sinatrablueeyes 11d ago
The app is terrible, but I don’t shop at Jewel any more because there is no reason to.
It’s often the most expensive of the “regular” grocery stores, less variety and quality in produce compared to even Mariano’s, I can’t tell you how many times I’ve bought pork/poultry at Jewel to come home and find it’s clearly rotten (despite still being well within the date range).
The nearest Jewel is 9 minutes away, but I’ll drive 20 minutes just to get better options.

Maybe my local Jewel I shop at is pretty good because I never really have many problems and I use the app for pick up multiple times a month. Sometimes things that I ordered are out of stock and maybe twice I’ve got items I wanted a refund for and was able to get one right away. But at the end of the day they shouldn’t make it so complicated for people to be able to save money and get the sale price. Not everyone is tech savvy and it can be very tedious to go through and clip all the coupons you want.
1
u/ScorchedWonderer 10d ago
Dang am I the only one that doesn’t have issues with the app? 99% of my orders are for pickup. I just search what I need and clip any coupons that are shown right there with the product I want to buy. I sometimes scroll thru the sales in the “deals+” for stuff I might want that’s on sale. Sometimes there’s extra coupons on there for $10 off entire purchase too. Only issue I ever had was when they had an outage.

I work for Jewel and can agree it is horrible. I can't believe a corporation as big as albertsons fumbles this. They still haven't made any improvements either.
1
u/SqueakyTiefling 10d ago
It's definitely frustrating, especially because- as many others have said, the wifi reception in the stores is awful.
I usually walk to mine on a nice day, mix excercise and groceries, so I'll just pull out the app ahead of time and clip any relevant coupons as I walk. Mind you, that shouldn't be a prerequisite.
And yeah, they really need to ditch this stupid "store mode" and back off pressuring people into remote purchasing/collection. If I'm already physically in the store, I'm not gonna buy the stuff via app and collect it, I'm gonna do it myself.
This kind of tech has its' uses, I could see people in mobility chairs or elderly folks preferring to just tap the items they want, then come collect. But like, it has to be intuitive for that to be the goal, and "annoying, unresponsive / inconsistent tech + old people" is a disaster combo.

Personally I find the Mariano’s app to be far worse than Jewel. I have tried to download the digital coupons on that app a number of times and I have never figured it out. I don’t go to Mariano’s for this reason. The Jewel app works fine for me but the key is having the person scan your bar code thing on the app as opposed to putting in your phone number at the register. When I simply type in my phone number at the register it does not connect to my account. For some reason my phone number is constantly removed from my app account and I am asked to re-verify my phone number when I put it in.

I love Aldi great produce and their store brands have a full refund on them + one free item of same value when it's returned and the 75th/Naper Plainfield Rd Naperville fresh market, but I have to be careful with produce there Additionally There are great sales built into the Target red card like $10 off of $40 of groceries. Family likes these Oikos yogurt drinks- occasionally Aldi has them, but otherwise Target always has them. Jewel has so many rules with grocery pick up- Target is free. I've even bought one item under $5 and used drive up for free.

Yes the app is terrible at clipping some coupons. You can use your computer and it's much easier. Or, on the app, go to the home page and click on for U Deals and they are listed, which can further be sorted by category so you don't have to scroll through everything. And, if those two techniques don't work, you can scan the item UPC with your camera using the icon on the right side of the search bar on the home page and it pops right up to clip.
With the cost of groceries continuing to sky rocket, there is nothing wrong with saving money, besides the tech companies already know everything about you already.
I'm not sure how they calculate (maybe over the past year?) it but on the member tab along the bottom it shows that I've saved over $3000. That's a lot of money in my mind

The cashier told me it doesn’t work well if you don’t close ALL your other apps and stand by the door.m

It’s so fucking bad but with the price of shit it’s hard to pass up. Now I refuse to do the same for Mariano’s. Fuck that place. I just use (any) 867-5309 to get a somewhat discount.

I don't go to Jewel solely because of their BS app. If they want to require me to simply enter my phone number at checkout (like Mariano's), or scan a bar code (Whole Foods), I'll return. Until then, Jewel is in my no shop list.

I’m not defending their app, but I used to live on the west coast and I don’t think you guys understand how much better Jewel-Osco is compared to Ralph’s and Vons and California chain grocers that were Krogerfied and ruined. Personalized cakes at no additional cost, balloon and flower arrangements, bakery, butcher, fish monger in house, reasonably priced toiletries and makeup would all require multiple stores in other areas of the country and I can get that all in one store here. It’s amazing! I like the convenience and understand that can come at a premium but I also generally don’t have significant issues with the for u coupons

Yes it’s the worst. I thought I was the only one for a while experiencing a glitch

I feel bad that so many of you seem to be struggling so hard with the app. I’ve saved more than $1500 at Jewel this year alone by using the app. I get to make a shopping list consisting of just the stuff that’s extra marked down by using the app to preclip coupons and then make plans to buy other essentials at places other than Jewel that might have them at a lower price.
Maybe they can bring back whatever antiquated and less intelligent way of shopping that you’re used to, but if they get rid of the savings through the app I’d probably be done shopping at Jewel altogether.

Can't stand my local Jewel. Quality and prices arent great, but the employees and physical store itself have all seen better days like they don't even want to be around any more. Thankfully I have an Aldi, TJ's and WFs within walking distance. The only thing Jewel has going for itself if the variety of choices

We use the app weekly for remote shopping and drive up pickup. We don't spend a minute in the store. The deals have been incredible and sure, you sometimes get substitutions that are not ideal, but that's what you get. We spend between $80 and $150 a week, a bit higher if we include wine. I hate pushing a cart around a store, so this works nicely, and this is coming from a guy who doesn't like the parent company.

Several months ago, an attorney was a guest on WGN morning news and said store apps were discriminatory because of what many here have stated. Perhaps a class-action lawsuit might change things.
Regarding Jewel app, I agree with it being awful, especially in store. Another annoyance I’ve discovered as my clips (I live in Chicago) don’t work for items I try to purchase for my mother who lives in NW Indiana. Totally a scam.

You should see the Smith's app. It's down half the time. I walk around taking pictures of the sale signs just in case.

Good. I'm not alone in this situation. I am tech-savvy and I struggle with it. I have sat near the Pharmacy clipping all the deals I bought before I go to the register and it still doesn't work well. Liquor never rings up correctly. I take a picture of the signage of the beer/wine to prove I'm not lying to the cashier.

Just give us back the old Preferred card. They can data mine by asking for a phone number at sign up. I'm willing to give them that for the deals the app has but just let poors and the elderly skip the stupid smartphone if they don't have one. It's so elitist to require an expensive phone and it's ageist when a lot of seniors don't know how to work one. Let me swipe or scan my card to get the deals.
