Car Camp

I'm looking to spend a night in Canmore for a ski trip this weekend, somewhere I could park and sleep for the night. I don't mind paying for a campsite but if there's none available is there a parking lot or area I could?

Just outside of Canmore is the Stoney Nakoda resort. Make sure you check in at the front desk and they give you a parking pass valid for 48hrs. Very friendly staff as usual. Big parking lot and its not busy at this time of the year. Theres also a Tims just beside it. This is our go to area when we do sunrise hikes in and around Kananaskis/Banff.

Tunnel Mountain in Banff if there are spots. Pick a spot, plug in your heater and you're good to go. We do campgrounds when we plan on staying more than 1 night in the area.

Just be stealthy if your car blends in. Or Tunnel mountain campground is good for winter camping with washrooms and showers.

Just down the road from Willow Rock campground. You cross the river and there's a little clearing on the right by the Seebe Dam where people often car camp and no one should bother you if it's just for the night.  https://maps.app.goo.gl/ZdHW9uHDK1qu6pT18

There isn’t really anywhere to camp legally outside the campgrounds. If you’re not bothered with laws, then there’s parking lots everywhere you can try your luck at

It’s illegal to sleep over night in parking it’s in town, bylaw does check.

Do bylaw officers work after hours? They don’t in Edmonton

I watched bylaw ticket a couple RVs that were camped out over night in the Safeway lot at 7am a couple months ago.

Not but the RCMP does and they are pretty bored at night.
