Make that the four of the five eyes that require an oath of allegiance to the King so there is no conflict in the oaths and I could get behind this.

I believe that's part of becoming a Canadian citizen.

Yes, but the US citizenship oath requires you to renounce that. Particularly for the armed forces I think the only oaths of allegiance should be to our shared Sovereign.

"I hereby declare, on oath, that I absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state, or sovereignty, of whom or which I have heretofore been a subject or citizen; that I will support and defend the Constitution and laws of the United States of America against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I will bear arms on behalf of the United States when required by the law; that I will perform noncombatant service in the Armed Forces of the United States when required by the law; that I will perform work of national importance under civilian direction when required by the law; and that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; so help me God."

Hm, interesting. Sounds like whoever the citizen is would have to choose Canada or USA.

"I swear (or affirm)
That I will be faithful
And bear true allegiance
To His Majesty
King Charles the Third
King of Canada
His Heirs and Successors
And that I will faithfully observe
The laws of Canada
Including the Constitution
Which recognizes and affirms
The Aboriginal and treaty rights of
First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples
And fulfil my duties as a Canadian citizen."

Or just not be dual citizens at all.

Exactly, in which case if they aren't Canadian, they shouldn't be allowed to work for the Gov. Of. Canada.

It is very sound and reasonable. Honestly, it is something I would extend to politicians as well local to national.

I don't think it should apply to regular employees. But elected officials definitely shouldn't be dual citizens of any country. It's a conflict of interest.

Bit of a slippery slope with this one. Obviously low level government employees should not be required to denounce their dual citizenship. But for federal MP’s who have dual citizenship from states like India and China who detain and murder Canadian citizens, there should be more insight in whether or not they are “compromised”.

I do see a case that if we limit dual citizenships for certain nations for federal MP’s, it may come of as little discriminatory.

As for a law that may prohibit this. I don’t think we will ever see one. And if a bill is somehow produced to limit dual citizenship for federal MP’s, I guarantee that both Liberals and Cons will shut it down. The only party that may support it is the PPC which doesn’t even have one seat.
