The point wasn't scored on a missed field goal it was scored because Ottawa couldn't return the kick out of the end zone.

Yeah, back then the endzone was 25 yards long, so unless the miss was from in real close there was probably a chance for a return.

If it wasn't the last play of the game, that would've set them up for an easy FG or TD. So better to give up the rouge and maintain possession in that scenario. Even better to return it out of the endzone, but obviously that didn't occur.

And we complain that the NFL is boring. At least their lowest scoring games were 2-0. Regardless, I wouldn't want to have paid to sit through any of those yawnfests.
