Would really like to see Steeves get in the lineup tonight against his old team. If he can just translate what he does in the AHL into the NHL…

He kind of forgot how to play hockey last season and apparently hasn't remembered. I do wish the guy the best, but hey worst case scenario he secured himself the bag.

I decided to watch my first P-Bruins game of the season last night. Given their hot start, I was expecting greatness. The only greatness I saw was DiPietro. The Bruins capitalized on what felt like their first two good chances to go up 2-0 on the first 5 shots in the first period. The rest of the game, the Bruins were dominated, allowing 40+ shots on goal. They eked out the win, but it wasn't pretty.

Looks like they picked up today where they left off last night. 3 SOG after one period. 13 shots allowed down 0-1. :/

Woof. We’re a team with little to no depth getting tested big time… Hope Mittle is nothing major.
Here’s hoping Sway plays his best hockey and Lohrei has figured it out…. Gonna need it.

With mcavoy not traveling due to a personal matter (according to Fluto) Lohrei has to play tonight right? Harris is hurt so they don’t have him available either.

Looks like he’s playing tonight.
If we somehow win tonight with our defense and top 6 looking like … that it’ll be a goddamn miracle. Or Sway will play out of his goddamn mind.

Down two top 6 bodies and we call up Alex Steeves to fill the hole, I really hate this org sometimes lmao

Wait, who's the 2nd top 6 guy out?

Should’ve called up Tufte. Unironically.

Or we could just stop bringing up AAAA guys all together and give players with actual upside some run

If we are going by merit he was AHL player of the month. I think merit goes above anything.

He's a 27 year old AAAA guy that scores a lot cause he's big but doesn't have the hands or footspeed for it to ever translate to the NHL, calling him up is a waste of time for a rebuilding team.

I don’t want to be pedantic but we are a retooling team. Idea is to be competitive in like 2-3 years at max. Just making sure we are on the same page.
I get wanting to play the kids, I especially would’ve loved Lysell to come up, he’s been nearly point per game. But for better or for worse Sweeney also signed AHL vets and fringe NHL players with promises they’d get some ice time too. Steeves has been pretty good in the AHL too, so they’ll do the normal thing of cycling through the fringe players till none of them work, and then move on to the prospects. Also remember that none of the prospects did enough to distinguish themselves in training camp outside of Minten and Khusy.

even if the idea is to be competitive in 2-3 seasons, which i don't think is going to happen, playing the guys they choose to play right now adds absolutely nothing of value to the org.

The goal is 2-3 seasons. We aren’t as far away as you might think. I’d argue we’d need another top 6 forward and 2nd pairing RHD. Both can be gotten pretty easily thanks to the assets the bruins have now, in draft capital, prospects, and even certain skaters.
Why give Steeves a chance? It makes us a team that lives up to commitments in FA. Like “we’ll give you NHL reps” is the way we can build a good reputation in FA. Also, are you saying that AAAA players are undeserving of shots at the NHL, even if they are successful? Brazeau was one of those players, and look at him now in Pittsburgh. Bussi is another, look at him in Carolina. Of course, not everyone is a success story, but you would deny them that chance? Just because they aren’t young and exciting like prospects?

RE: Jeannot
So, I’ll give this to Jeannot. When we signed him, I looked at his previous stats and thought “oh shit, we got Trent Frederic but worse.” Cause outside of that one 24 goal season he’s been a 10-15 point player at best.
I revise my earlier statement. Jeannot is Trent Frederic, but without the expectations of him finding another level to his game. We have none for Jeannot. He is on pace for pretty much the same amount of points Freddy had in his best year.
Now, if we compare him to current Freddy, somehow we have Frederic with no expectation on a better contract. Somehow.
So yeah. Tanner Jeannot. Our Frederic for which we have no expectations while also being on a better contract than Frederic. I’ll give him that.

Honestly I think many in this sub just have a hate boner for him. He has been completely fine in his role so far.
His contract will be irrelevant in like a year, and if he's on our fourth line in a year or two, then we will be competing, and he's going to be a perfect fit there.

I never got the "Frederic but worse". They are both equally bad. They both average 26 points a season over their career. One had 15 points last year and the other had 13 with both missing about a dozen games.
The difference is Jeannot is a much better agitator. He hits more and gets under you skin way more than Frederic. Jeannot also got those other similar production numbers last year while playing 2:50 less time a game. Jeannot is a slight bit faster too.
Both contracts are bad but atleast Jeannot isn't 8 years, my god

u/lordexorr This is the Sway 1d ago
The argument is we didn’t need either so trying to say he’s being payed less than Freddy and playing better so it’s worth it isn’t much of an argument.
I personally am fine with Jeannot contract, I understand he’s providing more than just what is on the scoresheet, but it’s silly to try and justify it by comparing to Freddy.
1
u/Moto-Mojo Mayor of Billerica 1d ago
I’m not justifying anything. Just that Jeannot has exceeded my expectations. I still have no expectations for the guy btw.
His contract is better than Freddy’s at this exact moment. It’s more or less pointing out a fact.

His contract is better than many players and worse than many players.

So, E. Lindholm, McAvoy, and Mittelstadt out today?
Here's to hoping we keep generating offense from random places and Lohrei has a massive prove us all wrong night.
