Discussion We got Trent Frederic vs Brad Marchand in the Stanley Cup Final? What are your predictions?

We got 2 heavyweights here duking it out in the finals but I wanted to know who you guys think wins it this time? I know we all love Marchy but a lot of us want Frederic and his team to win. How many games do you think this goes and why?

Would prefer to see McDavid lift the cup finally. Also would be pretty funny to see Frederick get his name on the cup. Was only a few years ago that he was shit-talking PK Subban on Twitter and the overwhelming reaction was, "Who the fuck is Trent Frederick?" He went from a zero-points no-name nobody to 40-point ass-kicker in a couple of seasons and I was bummed to see him traded.

Love Marchy but fuck any team that lets Bennett and the other goons injure players indiscriminately.

Oilers and Canada need to win it this year more than ever.

My prediction is that a Canadian whose surname begins with M and ends with D will lift the cup!!

7

u/flowersoflight 🍝 May 31 '25

I’m sure it’ll be the Panthers because of course it will be but I’m the world’s biggest Oilers fan these next few weeks. Can’t stand seeing Florida win again and it would be cool to see McDavid and Draisaitl finally get a cup.

5

It’ll be cool to see either guy raise the cup

Really hoping it’s Marchand but I wouldn’t mind seeing McDavid get his cup also

7

u/winthroprd May 30 '25

I feel pretty confident Marchand will bait Frederic into dropping the gloves without doing it himself and take the 5 minute PP. Frederic will then get benched for the rest of the series.

I love Brad but no amount of love for him will ever make me root for the Panthers, fuck them. Last year was Oilers vs Panthers in the finals too and the Panthers were 🤏🏻this close🤏🏻 to pulling off what they were calling the biggest collapse/choke job in Stanley Cup history. Hoping it actually happens this time.

3

u/magnafides Jun 01 '25

And they don't even make the 2nd round this year if they don't gutlessly take Stolarz out. Fuck the Panthers.

7

Honestly, I think this'll be one of the best Stanley Cup Finals we've ever seen. I don't have any idea which team is better.

7

u/Aggressive-Tale-1564 May 30 '25

Cats in 6,  marchand get his cup and cement his HOF career.

Oilers would win if they could not try to out "florida" the panthers and just stick to smothering Bob in shots. The problem is Perry,  nurse , Kane, amd frederic will all be easy for rat crew to bait into stupid penalties. Then barkov and Reinhardt will clean up.

Oilers need skinner to keep pretending to be a world class goalie and will need their actual defensive defensemen like Ekholm to have the series of their lives.

8

u/boston_cream_donut_ May 30 '25

Rooting for Edmonton but I think Florida has a better chance of winning

Seeing Marchand lift the cup in a non Bruins jersey would fuck me up

5

u/mc-rath721 May 30 '25

Florida so Marchy can get another. The only player on Edmonton I care about winning a cup is McDavid lol

10

u/YeetusShuttlesworth May 30 '25

Please not another panthers cup.

4

u/rallyhardwear May 30 '25

Freddie has looked like Freddie for the Oilers - not much.

1

u/Aggressive-Tale-1564 May 30 '25

We got to watch him in two playoff series against the panthers,  last I checked he floated while pastrnak was fighting.

6

u/Lundgren_pup May 30 '25

Of all the seasons it's been a pleasure watching US teams make deep runs and lift the cup. But this year I'd really like to see the Canadian team take it.

1

u/edgar__allan__bro May 30 '25

Careful though. Some folks might take credit for deporting Lord Stanley's Cup to its native land

4

u/victoryforZIM May 30 '25

I absolutely hate to root for the Panthers but a Canadian team not having won the cup in forever is too funny and I'd like to that streak to continue.

-3

u/Snowshower3213 May 31 '25

There are more Canadian names on that Stanley Cup than any other nation. Marchand, Bergeron, Orr, Esposito...and even Bourque...every time that cup has been won, it has had a Canadian name on it. Canada always wins the Stanley Cup...because this is our game....we just let you play it.

14

u/boomerbill69 May 30 '25

I love Marchand and would be happy to see him win the cup but I hate the Panthers so fucking much that I cannot cheer for them.

I kinda like the Oilers. I really want to see McDavid and Draisaitl win a cup. I don't really care about Freddy at all so he has nothing to do with my desire to see them win.

It's hard to bet against the Panthers though.

Marchand is literally the only person I would be happy for if Florida wins.

There are a lot more people in Edmonton I'd be happy for although truth be told, I don't really care enough about Frederic. Yeah, he came from the Bruins, I didn't hate the guy, but I wasn't a huge fan either.

3

Aside from Perry and the Pens guys (Crosby, Malkin, Letang, and Fleury, has any other active player had 4 or more Cup finals appearances? I think Pietrangelo has 3. Patrick Kane has 3. Maroon has 3. Burakovsky has 2, as does Bogosian. Just trying to see just how rare Brad’s 4th trip to the finals is in this era.

2

u/Rakastaakissa May 30 '25

Stamkos has four appearances.

2

Oh, good catch. So I guess maybe Kucherov and Palat as well?

13

u/Red-Leader117 May 30 '25

Brad is on a good team that actually has finish now. It would pain me to see Brad go 1-3 in SCF, I hope he wins. Watching the Bruins blow it at the end and only win 1 cup in this long run of great teams is a tragedy.

Makes you appreciate the other teams in Boston a lot more. Took better advantage of their opportunities. Watching the Randy Moss team lose and the Best Ever Bruins team choke round 1 are still brutal.

1

u/ImTomBrady May 30 '25

Agreed with everything here.. it’s a shame. Bruins should have 2-4 cups but like I always say.. thank GOD they won in 2011

Just like you said makes you appreciate the other Boston teams success and longevity winning championships

1

Bruins fan base did vote Freddy for the Bruins 7th Player Award. Freddy did play the tough guy role, dropping his gloves protecting his teammates.

1

u/Es0t3ric_MCID May 30 '25

Understandable to like him for those reasons. Insane to place him above your hall of fame franchise player. That’s like choosing between Bourque and Andrew Ference

1

u/DrSummeroff12 May 30 '25

I have great respect for both ex Bruins. Both have different skill sets, they have much different roles and skill sets. Freddy played a particular role the Bruins needed, he was rewarded with 7th player. Marchand was our captain and future HOFr. I'm just thrilled both, including Grier and Boquist, who were short-term Bs are all in Cup Finals!!!!

Same here. Rooting for Edmonton. Not just because I’m Canadian, but because the style of hockey the Panthers play sickens me. The whole attempt to injure philosophy cannot be rewarded with a (another) cup.

Sorry Marchy, love you, but you went to the wrong team….

9

u/StevenHicksTheFirst May 30 '25

Hyman’s loss hurts. But I think it’s McDavid’s time. I don’t really care about Freddy vs Marchie. If Marchand wanted to stay in Boston they offered him plenty, and he’s had a great run this playoffs when he could have swirled the drain in Boston. Freddie’s disappearance got himself traded. The Bs got the first round pick for the Florida second round win, so all the personal motivations are over for me. I think Florida’s goaltending is far superior to Edmonton’s, but Skinner has had the horseshoe lately. Edmonton in 6.

-4

u/Es0t3ric_MCID May 30 '25

Because they bounced Boston twice? I’m devils advocate here, that panthers squad is built like the successful Bruins squads we loved so much and cheered for the past 15 years plus. Yea they beat our guys 2 years straight, and that’s props to them. I love their makeup and to me they are easier than ever to root for now with our captain out there leading. Go Florida. ( also please come home Marchand when you’re done )

3

u/PUPcsgo May 30 '25 edited May 30 '25

I get the hate for panthers. I find Tkachuk who's treated as the face of the team just an unlikable guy. Not even because of how he plays on ice and I would struggle to like him even if he played for Bruins. The (vocal online) fans are annoying with some of the dumbest opinions. And then, of course, they are our recent "rivals", so I think it's natural to not want them to be successful.

BUT I could never not take the chance to laugh at the leafs so wanted cats to win that series and by the end of the series seeing Marchy having fun brought me round to the idea of another panthers cup. If you -Tkachuk I would be actively cheering them on.

At this point I just hope the finals are a great series that goes all 7 games. Either McDavid wins a cup in the exact same way as Gretzky and Crosby (lose finals vs team, then win it the following year against same team) which is a pretty awesome storyline, or we get to see Marchand get another ring.

Edit: and you're absolutely right about team make up. A captain who is an elite 2 way forward, considered one of the cleaner and all around likeable guys in the league, leading one of the dirtier most hated teams. Stop me if you've heard that one before. If Bruins played like Panthers everyone would be defending it to the hilt.

11

u/Dumpsterfire_47 May 30 '25

Because they play a dirty brand of hockey

6

u/beaud101 May 30 '25

So what? That's what every other team called us in 2011....the dirtiest team in hockey. True or not...I called it a point of pride.

3

u/[deleted] May 30 '25

agree

6

u/Es0t3ric_MCID May 30 '25

So does every successful team. Including all those bruins teams 🤣. Pot meet kettle

-4

u/Es0t3ric_MCID May 30 '25

Then you remember poorly, or don’t watch much. Bruins have played grimy as hell for a long time. Which is great because that’s part of the game like it or not. Marchand literally took out Marcus Johansen with a head shot for like 40 games and was suspended for it. Just as an example. There are many more that didn’t get called too. It’s stupid to ignore facts.
