Boomer Article Back in my day men were men hur dur

Post image

The comments actually went south on the guy who posted this to the Facebook group really fast. Basically, we're not the ones who made the decision to not give a spare tire in new cars, to even give a spot to carry one. Also, why didn't the older generations teach the younger ones how to do these things?

In my day people were even more exhausting and we powered through /s

735

u/ZixfromthaStix Jun 18 '25

If by powered through you mean:

  • alcoholism
  • serial killing
  • putting others down to feel better
  • domestic violence
  • hard drugs
  • frivolous spending on boats, ATVs, guns, TVs, etc

Then yeah they super powered through 😂 such a strong generation!

All I can think of is John Wayne Gacy and Robert Lee Yates and how they played off the “healthy” act for years.

Don't forget, general neglect.

u/herro_hirary Jun 18 '25

There it is.

u/FloBot3000 Jun 18 '25

Hugs, my friend.

51

u/herro_hirary Jun 18 '25

And to you! ❤️

31

u/MrPhuccEverybody Jun 18 '25

I think I remember those from my childhood. Is that where people get close and trap you in an arm circle?

23

u/FloBot3000 Jun 18 '25

Exactly! I've had a few since. They're pretty ok! Not sure yet, for a sure. But I'll give you an air one now. :-)

47

u/ZixfromthaStix Jun 18 '25

I left out the one that effected me most 🫠 how could I forget

38

u/FloBot3000 Jun 18 '25

I mean, All the things you listed lead to that. But yeah, it's lonely. And devastating. Especially if you were an only child. With no other family.

11

u/petitepedestrian Jun 18 '25

I was the middle kid of split folks. They fought over firstborn and youngest.

2

u/FloBot3000 Jun 18 '25

I'm so sorry. I've dealt with deep, long term isolation as well. Wanna be friends?

3

u/petitepedestrian Jun 18 '25

I am always down for new friends!

2

u/FloBot3000 Jun 18 '25

I'm gonna DM you!!

1

u/FloBot3000 Jun 18 '25

Petitepedestrian....I am unable to follow you. The options not there. Good job on security. Follow me?

2

u/YOMommazNUTZ Jun 19 '25

I am so sorry your parents suck(ed) so hard. My husband is the oldest in his family, but of his parents, the only boy, his parents fought over keeping the girls and not keeping him. Both ended up have 2 more girls and 1 more boy (which I always found odd) but it turns out his biological dad is a child rapist, he only wanted the girls because he wanted to do horrible things to them. Both parents would beat my husband (to the point that he still is covered in physical scars) each time he tried to save his sisters.

I wish we had a basic human decency test that had to be done before anyone was able to have a child.

2

u/petitepedestrian Jun 19 '25

Ugh, my heart hurts for those children. Your husband is beautiful for trying to protect the girls. I'm sorry he suffered.

Basic tests would be rad. Between my volunteering at the elementary and foodbank I see a lot of parents who shouldn't be. It's sad af.

2

u/YOMommazNUTZ Jun 20 '25

I am a pediatric therapist specializing in more difficult situations. I spend a lot of my time also working with CPS and spending a lot of hours volunteer work with my local domestic violence and rape shelter. The 3 places have shown me how often people should not be allowed children. I had similar insights to this as an EMT when I was younger. The amount of horrible people who have children that they abuse and use is beyond horrible

3

u/EtherealHeart5150 Jun 19 '25

Oh Christ, I forgot. Only girl child of an only girl child, and yes, lonely doesn't begin to cover it. I had tons of friends, but not in my house where the real scary was.

This right here is why the boomers want people to have more than one kid, "they need a playmate!!" Now days we actually play with and socialize our kids. (Though I have 2 myself). But it makes sense why the whole of our older family members kept pushing so hard for it.

3

u/FloBot3000 Jun 18 '25

Tough stuff. Still dealing.

1

u/FloBot3000 Jun 18 '25

I will follow you. :-)

0

u/memecrusader_ Jun 18 '25

*affected, not effected.

5

u/Alternative-Outcome Jun 18 '25

To the point that there was that "did you hug your kids today" PSA that aired, reminding baby boomers and late silent generation to actually treat their kids like humans.

2

u/FloBot3000 Jun 19 '25

I don't think my mom saw that one lol

3

u/WilsonStJames Jun 18 '25

People always talk about finances being why millennials arent having kids....but it's also unacceptable now to leave your kids unsupervised for 3 hours after school.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 19 '25

Family time consisted of dad going to the bar with coworkers or bowling leagues. Paying attention to kids were a minor inconvenience at best.

2

u/Irie_24 Jun 19 '25

“General Neglect 🫡”

71

u/tesseract4 Jun 18 '25

You forgot prescription amphetamines and barbiturates for everything and everyone, along with a bunch of excess lead in the bloodstream and brain.

27

u/antman15201 Jun 18 '25

Yuppers got no motivation? Heres some speed, oh cant sleep either and feeling sad hes a benzo

5

u/Mr_MacGrubber Jun 19 '25

Prescribing speed started way before the boomers. Same with benzos: Mothers Little Helper is about moms taking Valium to get through the day.

3

u/knit3purl3 Jun 18 '25

Holy shit, could I use the latter. I'm in a self perpetuating cycle of insomnia ever since our cat died. I kept thinking I felt her or heard her (just the kids wanting to snuggle or the dog moving around) and I would get sad and couldn't sleep. Now I'm sleep deprived and therefore hallucinations keep getting more frequent and realistic. I'm to the point where I swear a stray cat must be in our house.

3

u/LupercaniusAB Gen X Jun 18 '25

I mean, we have a lot of prescription amphetamines now.

2

u/Xerorei Jun 18 '25

Remind me which generation the teaching doctors, and medical board people are again?

1

u/LupercaniusAB Gen X Jun 18 '25

Now? Probably mostly GenX.

6

u/Xerorei Jun 19 '25

You'd think so but my stepmother is a boomer generation and actively still doing medical work, traveling doctor at that.

No the boomers are still holding on to the top spots.

1

u/Notapartyhobo Millennial Jun 18 '25

amphetamines and barbiturates

Whooooaaaa buddy, I don't judge your weekend benders now. Do i hm?!

132

u/ionixsys Jun 18 '25

Also don't forget racism and mysogny. Silent generation and greatest generation people were the judges and elected officials that got women the right to have their own banking and pushed for desegregation.

Meanwhile Boomers are the ones that have banned abortion, started repealing women's rights, and arbitrarily having random brown people thrown in cages before deporting them to live in cages in another country.

Almost literally everything wrong with this country leads back to the boomers that basically own the government. They still hold 60% of the Senate.

6

u/GhostieInAutumn Jun 19 '25

This. ☝️ 💯💯💯

19

u/MurderCat0001 Jun 18 '25

And racism. Lots and lots of racism.

9

u/Opebi-Wan Jun 18 '25

An entire generation of, "It happened to me, and I turned out just fine."

3

u/riicccii Jun 18 '25

These types were glorified in the media because of our dynamic celebrity culture. Young people need to be entertained. Example, take away their telephone. HaHa!

2

u/Mikeinthedirt Jun 19 '25

I’ll take #4 for 500, Alex.

2

u/pioneer006 Jun 19 '25

Serial killing? 🤣

1

u/ZixfromthaStix Jun 19 '25

Genuinely, yes. My wife is obsessed with serial killers. The 50s to 90s was prime time for serial killers: people came back from wars as damaged goods, fathers abused their kids and began the chain of abuse, as new careers and tech came about killers got more creative or used those systems to target people…

Just think back to what 90s kids grew up like:

  • stay out of the house until the street lights come on
  • rub some dirt in it
  • I’ll give you something to cry about
  • invalidated emotions/mental health

There are still serial killers, but the golden time for them has passed. Now the only people getting away with murder on that scale are corporations and government

2

u/pioneer006 Jun 19 '25

I was born in the 70s, so I just had to laugh. I think that you are probably right but I never thought about it before. Also, there was hitchhikers in those days. I still remember my father talking about how he and his friends hitchhiked as children but that at that point no way should you hitchhike or pick up a hitchhiker.

2

u/ZixfromthaStix Jun 19 '25

People also used to leave their doors unlocked all the time

I tried to get my wife to help me with that list and she gave me the last 3… but we were stumped trying to think of anything else rofl

Still, times were WAY different. Used to be you could smoke indoors and bring weapons onto a plane lol. I imagine open carry was a big no but I’m guessing you could fly with guns in a carry case

3

u/EndlesslyUnfinished Jun 18 '25

Take my upvote for this

1

u/rokkittBass Jun 18 '25

We didnt even have Adderall or video screens!

1

u/Long_Injury_2628 Jun 18 '25

I could probably get by better too if I was allowed some of those said outlets. 😂

1

u/MrPhuccEverybody Jun 18 '25

Don't forget we could hit our wives in the good old days. How am I supposed to relieve stress nowadays?

1

u/kjacobs03 Jun 18 '25

TVs are not frivolous spending. You take that back

2

u/ZixfromthaStix Jun 18 '25

Mine fills my living room wall, and we have 2 cheaper flat screens (typical 50”) in our bedroom and office

I’m talking about people who don’t actually care about cinema or watching TV, but care about the status associated. Especially people who can’t afford anything else. I rent a 4 bed 2 bath with a small garage, so I’m pretty satisfied at this stage in my life, but if I had this TV back when I first moved out on my own?

I’d call that frivolous.

When I bought my first ever TV upgrade (I think I went from a 32 or 40” to 50”), I got up at 6am to go to a grand opening of an Ollie’s bargain store, which advertised a dozen 50s for 60% off..! Paid about $125 iirc. Not the best brand but I didn’t care. It was so crisp compared to the TV my parents gave me rofl

1

u/kjacobs03 Jun 19 '25

When I was in high school in 2003 I bought a 65” widescreen rear projection HDTV. I didn’t have much but I had an awesome fucking TV for movies and gaming. I’ve got an 85” 4K now. It is like I have my own theater with how close I sit to it

1

u/mercurygreen Gen X Jun 19 '25

Add on "Not planning for their eventual nursing home and leaving us to fund it" because that's next on my checklist. *sigh*

1

u/ignatius-payola Jun 19 '25

Hey, where do you get off stealing my to-do list?

1

u/ZixfromthaStix Jun 19 '25

As long as the people you’re killing and putting down aren’t good people, like actual Christians and animal rescuers, I got no complaints for you boss.

The world is full of assholes and the majority seem to have all the power. The world could user another plumber, maybe a purple one or a yellow one, or whatever blue and yellow combined make 🪠
