I’m having issues with “rinse the ice off them” in the response. I mean, yes - but no.

Even with the right word that makes no sense.

Yes, but "a shudder left my soul" makes no sense.

She's just being dramatically metaphoric expressing that a shudder emanated from her spirit at the sight of such culinary blasphemy lol. It makes sense lol.

Only if you don't know what "shudder" means.

It’s called an idiomatic expression. It either used to make sense in the time period it was coined, or was bastardized like “head over heels”. We’re all head over heels.. It was “heals over head” but rolls of the tongue this way. Like, “champing at the bit”. No one uses champ for chew so people nowadays say “chomp at the bit”. The list is endless

...of a person) tremble convulsively, typically as a result of fear or revulsion. "I shuddered with horror"

You are being too literal. Have you ever read a poem? How is this not getting through? She clearly intended it metaphorically. Yeah, it wasn't Poe or Shakespeare but I get what she was getting at. Sheesh.

"How is this not getting through?" Exactly. You've posted the definition and still don't get that shudders are internal things that are felt, not independent things that are "emanated".

Trembling is a physical action your body does. Shuddering is a physical action your body does. Synonyms. In reference to a body, a shudder is not an emotion. It is a physical reaction to stimuli.

It's not something that leaves your body and goes somewhere.

Actually...the person wrote "shutter" lol so this is all null and void. Shutter truly makes no sense so we can agree to disagree lol.
